    Nice vapor smoothed parts. At what depth will your bouyancy system work? I been doing calculations for building oen to 100 meters and the pressure is absolutely prohibitive

    syringe and worm screw are adjacent but syringes dont spin on their own axis. Why ?

    Neat project! Great integration effort, and beautiful pitch and roll system, looks novel! But I wonder if this design is a complete dead end,. There is so much 'dry' space in the motor area, I think we both know there's no way this design, fundamentally, could ever achieve a worthwhile glide depth (which is the whole point of these things...)I doubt it could even do 10 atm, so isn't this all show? It's like an impossible, but cool, airplane design that just drives around the runway?

    Hi Alex, I find this project very interesting. I'm currently an engineer student doing my last internship in Malaysia and my main mission is programming an underwater glider with arduino. However i'm not very familiar with programming. Is it possible to have an access on some code that you used on this software to create the movements of descents in depth and rising on the surface of the glider for example. This could allow me to better understand and get on track. I would be very grateful to you

    hello Mr.Alex , i want to know wich sensor you used for getting the vehicule almost touch the ground ?did you used a proximity sensor or what?thank you

    • @alexwilliams8878
      @alexwilliams8878 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The current demonstration use a timer, however there is a pressure sensor (www.bluerobotics.com/store/electronics/bar30-sensor-r1/) at the back of the glider which will be used to start ascending when the glider reaches a certain depth. Underwater proximity sensors are particularly expensive so I will explore alternative solutions for detecting the bottom of the water body first.

    Mr Alex can you please tell us why you used a gearbox planetary in the open source underwater glider ?i mean what is the role of the gearbox?

    • @alexwilliams8878
      @alexwilliams8878 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The planetary gearbox is used as a torque multiplier so that the stepper motor rotating the central mass section can generate enough torque.

    • @clubscientifiquedegeniemar8196
      @clubscientifiquedegeniemar8196 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      thank you Mr.Alex , i am working on it in my master thesis , and i will use your model to do a study about it , how much can reach in depht and how much can stay in the water ?

      Over the coming days I will be testing the buoyancy engine to determine a depth rating for the glider - I'll keep you posted :-)

    How did you get the idea to use a buoyant motor?

    • @alexwilliams8878
      @alexwilliams8878 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The buoyancy engine is the only way an underwater glider would work, so I had a look at commercial underwater gliders and they typically use an oil bladder (they pump oil from an internal to external bladder to decrease overall density and vice versa) or syringes for their engines. A syringe system is easier and there are a couple of designs out there (mainly a servo on the end of a modified syringe), so I tried my best to iterate upon this and build a complete system.

    For friendships sake, get rid of the background music! Is this the teletubby theme? Other than that i'm really interested and hope your project will move along.

    • @alexwilliams8878
      @alexwilliams8878 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The music comment is noted for future videos :) (I wanted some kind of background noise and was short on time so couldn't find anything better). Although I've been able to put minimal time into the glider over the last couple of months, I hope that I'm able to make some good progress with the project in the near future.

      Yeah, some peristaltic pumps have asymmetrical inlet/outlets, but the glider will run into problems if it can only go in one direction :')

    That mass assembly looks like 18650 batteries. Do you have plan to use use it also as battery?

    • @alexwilliams8878
      @alexwilliams8878 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, the 18650 batteries in the mass assembly should allow for the glider to function without an external power source.

    Would it help to have a bit of Dihedral in the wings to add a bit of stability so the control system did not have to work to hard and use too much power?

    • @alexwilliams8878
      @alexwilliams8878 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It would be beneficial to have dihedral wings as this would reduce overall power usage and make the software slightly easier (It would have to compensate less). I’ll look at changing the wings for the next revision of the glider, thank you for the suggestion.
