This trail is known as one of the most beautiful day hikes in the USA. Located in Glacier National Park, it is just under 11 miles in length. We hiked this trail in early September 2023, so although most of the wildflowers had come and gone for the summer, the fall colors were beginning to appear. #glaciernationalpark #montana #hiking

Great job on the video. I really enjoyed your trail. Thanks for sharing!
@@stevenmshawzy I’m glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching.
Awesome photography and commentary!! I worked in GNP back in 1975 (Red Bus Driver) and on 3 of my days off, I was unable to hike due to rainstorms! I returned the next year as a visitor and did the Grinnell Glacier hike and Dawson-Pitamakan hike. Just spectacular! Looking forward to more of your videos.
@@garybarron8172 Glad you enjoyed the video. Grinnell Glacier hike is one of my all-time favorites!
What was the total hiking time? tia
Total time to do both passes as described in the video, including stop times for snacks and lunch, was about nine hours.
Beautiful hike and great weather! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for your comment and taking time to watch.
20th July 2024: from the main trailhead (picnic area) its 5.09 miles up and the same coming out. Our GAIA GPS app showed that we ascended 1,696, ft. We started at 5:55 a.m. because it's so much easier to hike uphill in the cool of the morning.
Don't know why this isn't suggested more. Great video!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it.
Great hike and a super video. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it.
Great Video and comments! I have hiked the Highline Trail 3 times, but the weather conditions were not ideal each time. I still got to see many great views. I worked as a Jammer back in the 1970s and return there whenever possible.
was this taken in september?
Yes, early September.
Two years ago we visited Grinnell Lake. We will be back in 2025 and I plan on going to the Glacier. How hard was this and how long did you take round trip.
It’s about 10.5 miles round trip. The hike to the glacier is a steady climb, but not too steep, until the last half mile. It’s such a beautiful hike, so we took our time, and spent about an hour at the glacier. Our total time was about six hours.
Thank you. I’m hoping my wife and I will make it. This helps.
How long did it take to get to Haystack Butte?
About 90 minutes. Mostly flat until the last part.
amazing video, quality and commentary ❤❤
hiked and climbed Glacier for 35+ years. visited Hidden Lake about twice a year on average (70 times to the lake) climbed Reynolds 14 times climbed Oberlin over 20 times (lost count).....my opening day destination for years. over 100 total peak summits and well over 5000 trail miles lots of pics. little video. thanks for the memories
Me and my Husband and our children did this hike in the Summer of 2023.. The scenery was amazing. I think I enjoyed the Iceberg Lake trail better though, because it had more shade and waterfalls for our kids to cool off in. We saw our first Grizzly on the Iceberg Lake trail! I want to hike to Cracker Lake this Summer 2024!
Beautiful video, I rode my motorcycle through Glacier NP 9/6/23 before the rains came, but I thought several times I need to come back and do some hiking. Thank you for the excellent video.
Unbelievable!! I would love to do this hike, I'm 64 and know I could do this , I'm about in tears just watching this, words can't describe....thank you for sharing this ..... seriously...I love yaw...
one of my bucket list hikes! views are incredible!
Absolutely loved this travel vlog! The breathtaking scenery, engaging storytelling, and fantastic editing made it a captivating experience👏
_Amazing hiking adventure video with incredibly knowledgeable and enthusiatic narration and enhanced by inspiring music: This captivating Ptrarmigan Tunnel Trail hike showcases nature's splendor and unwavering spirit of the hikers, offering a dose of motivation and inspiration. Thank you for sharing your insight and expertise with the world._
incredible views! hopefully I can do these hikes one day!
I hope you can do those hike also! They are wonderful!
It breaks my hart to see Grinnell Glacier as a small lake. In the sixties I walked on the Glacier with a ranger guide. It was an amassing thing to do when your a young man. Way to go humans, keep destroying the world.
Awesome! Wife and I where just there at the end of Sept into October. We are hiking grandma and grandpa as well. From south Florida. You film very good! Nice peaceful music as well. May I ask how old you are? You do good mileage. Better than we where able too. Didn’t quite reach Grinnell glacier. We just love this place!
Thank you for the comment. Glad you enjoyed the video. I’ll be 66 next month.
Love the time lapse sequences
Absolutely beautiful....Thanks for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it.
Absolutely Beautiful!
two iconic places to visit in Glacier Park.... and they're basically on the same trail. how nice. i loved both hikes. took them more than once. saw griz on every one. how nice (again).
We got a flat tire in Glacier National Park.
lol I can imagine why. They really need to fix the roads.
my favorite hike ever! its not often the entire hike has stunning views
Yes, very true!
Great video Granpa!!!
Enjoy
Stunning! Thank you for posting.
Glad you enjoyed it!
is this a hike that an average person could do?...it seems like mostly downhill...
Yes, should be. Just hike on the Highline Trail to Haystack Butte, which is about four miles from Logan Pass and then go back. Some hikers will go farther and then turn around or go all the way down to Going-to-the-Sun Road at The Loop, but then you would need to shuttle back to your car somehow.
Wish I were there, too! ❤❤
Fantastic views!!
LOVE those 2 passes!! and the area around them. Preston Park, (at the right time) is a floral display that all must see. the switchbacks down Siyeh to the trees are so fun - and seemingly never ending. the backside of the Garden Wall (and Gould) make one feel so small..... Glad you did it. Keep doing the park passes.....they are are huge fun! Swiftcurrent, Triple Divide, Dawson/Pitamakin, Two Medicine, Brown/Boulder, Stoney Indian (that's a number days) and Gunsight (a difficult one day) i spent 35+ years hiking Glacier (and surrounding forests and wildernesses). put 5000+ trail miles in Glacier. 100+ summits. worth every minute.
100% agree about hiking passes! Siyeh and Piegan were the first we had done in GNP. A few days later, we did the HIghline from Logan Pass and then down Swiftcurrent. Loved that one. Will be uploading that hike to YT in the coming weeks. Hope to do more in the future.
Love the footage! That watercolor is beautiful. Excited to see some more! Keep it up. <3<3
Thank you! More to come soon.
@@HikingGrandpa yay!
Thanks for the hike and the memories. My wife, our boys, and I visited there a number of times and the memories and beauty of the place always brings joy and a tear. Thanks again!
Yes, GNP is special. Many good memories for my family also. Thanks for commenting!
Hiking Grandpa Production is awesome! Looking forward to more of your videos!
Thank you!
Is that where you are going. 845 cst
We leave next week for 2 weeks near GNP, so time to pace ourselves with sightseeing. Is this trail steep? I am researching best trails for me with breathtaking views. I have back and knee issues, but will wear a knee brace and have walking poles. How long to walk up and back at a slow steady pace? Thank you for sharing your beautiful video.
Hi, the trail is partly over a boardwalk with steps. It is about 1.40 miles to the observation deck. Beautiful hike. Go at your pace and just enjoy the scenery. It is well worth the effort. Good luck and enjoy!
What a great video! Brings back great memories of Iceberg Lake. What an epic day!
Glad you enjoyed it. Look for a new video of our hike to Iceberg Lake just two weeks ago. Coming very soon!
Great video! We will be going there in September and cannot wait to do this hike!
It’s one of my all-time favorite hikes. Enjoy your time and this hike next month in GNP!
I'll be there in 5 days.... I can't wait this has to be the slowest week of my life waiting
Have a great time!
Is this hike usually accessible in early June?
Unfortunately not usually, since the Going to the Sun Road is usually not open until late June or even into July.
Wonderful! Enjoyed it all! We were there mid-July and had a mountain goat walk past us on the trail - we held onto the hose and didn't make eye contact - he passed us without incident - scary! Thank you for taking us along!
Glad you enjoyed the video of this wonderful hike!
@@HikingGrandpa my wife and I hiked the trail to the butte in Sept. saw a few big horn close to the trail. Beautiful hike. Wonderful video.
Just came back from Glacier NP (July 3rd, 2023). A beautiful park indeed! Thanks for the upload.
We were here just last week and your video reminds me so much of my trip. It was awesome! Thank you for the video.
Thanks for watching! Glad it brought back memories of this beautiful hike.
Would love to see more!
Thanks! Posting more after upcoming trip.
Grinnell Glacier is such a gorgeous area! You did an awesome job videotaping your adventure. My wife and I did this hike about twelve years ago but we took the boat route. Thanks to your filming, we have decided we want to take on this hike next year. Truly inspiring! Looking forward to seeing more of your videos!
I’m glad you were inspired to return next year to this amazing area! Enjoy!
Georgious views of mountains, lakes, plus a decent bighorn ram and a bull moose. We are heading there at end of August.
