My name is Adam and this is my youtube channel that will show you my racing. I race my dad’s leyland mini clubman turbo. Peter (my dad) was a legendary driver from the 60’s to the 90’s. He passed away in 1999. The car sat in the shed for 20 years. I’ve recently gotten it going to carry on his legacy.
I haven’t had much experience in mini’s or fwd race cars so come for a journey with me trying to work out this hillclimb monster.
I also do a little bit of motorkahna and kahnacross/autocross as well.
Im slowly trying to work out how this channel is going to work (first time) so if theres any help or info, dont hesitate to message me.

3 rounds of hillclimbs in the mini
So this is a long story. I started racing this car only 18 months ago and I have always had trouble finding 3rd gear (as if you guys dont already know) but ive been trying to work it out. Changed a lot of parts and even just tried to get used to it but i dont get to drive it enough so i worked out a better way. The spring is attached to the shaft that controls the input for the gears. Showing 1st-2nd gate under tension towards 3rd-4th gate. When i push the stick upwards it simply falls into the center and into 3rd gear. Its not overly a strong spring. Just strong enough to miss first gear. If anyone wants me to show how i did it i can make a much more detailed video.
This video shows 2 rounds of the Victorian hillclimb championship and 1 multi-club hillclimb.
Gippsland for the figure 8 track. I blew out a small rubber gasket that was in the internal throttle return spring. It seemed to get stuck in the spring somehow. That is all i could find that was making it get stuck open.
Rob roy hillclimb in the wet. I dont have wet weather tyres for the car yet. I wrecked at ararat and broke my other set of wheels.
Gippsland for the reverse track (anticlockwise track). They haven’t ran that layout in over 10 years. The last time they did a big number of cars wrecked and that was for the Australian titles. I wasnt going to push into the first and last corners. It was just simply race to get seat time. Plus it was also my birthday on the sunday.

Bathurst Hillclimb in the mini 2024

My weekend of dusty fun out at westmere motorsport. We held the victorian state round for khanacross and motorkhana. Was definitely a fun filled weekend making the skyline full dust.

My first race back for the year didnt go quite as planned. Trailer tire exploded on the way there, gearstick snapped off, door handle inside the car snapped off and my uni exploded on lap 3. i was going to put a camera on the outside of the car but spent the weekend fixing things in between runs, next time ill put both cameras up to start off with. see you at bathurst!

Hey guys just a short video of my gearbox getting pulled apart and finding out what that knocking noise was. It seems to be second gear on the cluster shaft and the actual second gear itself. Sorry for the bad quality vid but i need to put something out there haha. I ran this car into the ground on this run 3 years ago. I melted a piston on the top section.
2015 was when we last ran anticlockwise, anticlockwise figure 8 was used at AHC2011. We'll run anticlockwise figure 8 on 29th September. Hyped you came out to a multiclub, much more relaxed than the VHC rounds! Happy birthday also. See you on the 30th!

Great sounding engine. You need zero mechanical empathy to get the best out of that engine.
everything has been working for a long time now. id love to do some upgrades but its a little out of my budget at the moment.
What engine is in it??
1293cc aluminum head/1.5 roller rockers with a dcoe45 blow threw carby. turbo is a m10 garret. the whole car was built in the 80's by my father. I have just tried to get it going after 20 years of sitting in the shed.
What was dyno result?
147hp on a safe tune. i have'nt been been driving this car for long. Nor racing FWD cars long so everything is still newish to me.
Great sound, but you seem a little too frightened to rev it.
The rev limit is only 5200. Still on a safe tune.

Its actually the turbo’s limits. If i had a slightly bigger turbo or more boost it would pull a little harder.

Yeah im sure that wasnt the problem. Since changing back to a stock shifter i havent missed a gear.
