Why don't you guys ask some local restaurant owners
Are these elected officials? Did these folks have no idea the volume of testimonies expected? I’m astounded one hour was required to determine how the meeting would be conducted. I agree with Melanie McIntosh, this should have been privately discussed and predetermined.
Unfortunately this meeting was very unprofessionally handled. That is not to say that everyone on the Planning Committee was rude. Yes, some public complaints were emotional, but the meeting was public and unfortunately Mr. Edwin Logan did his best to interrupt the majority of questions and concerns. I understand they were only expecting 3 people to show up from Duckers Lake as it appears that is the only residents they sent this information to, so it appears some on the Planning Committee were upset when it was 30 people instead. I still request a traffic impact study based on the following issues: 1. This plan was approved back in 2006/07 according to Mr. Robert Hewitt and no subsequent studies have been performed. At this time I do not believe a single home was built on Bobby Jones Blvd. Now Crumbaugh is requesting to build 16 more. 2. Looking at the general layout of the neighborhood we have a north entrance and a west entrance. It doesn’t take an expert to figure out that a south entrance will be needed if 32 additional vehicles are expected in the southwest corner of the neighborhood. Otherwise you are expecting nearly 80 vehicles to enter and exit a single street with sharp corners, constant obstructions, no stop signs and already high traffic and children present frequently. 3. The original plan approved was for 10 homes and not 16. I would believe this by itself would constitute a resubmittal for approval, if the Planning Committee was functioning as a body properly. 4. The public concern for safety, which was highly disregarded because according to Mr. Edwin Logan was not relevant to the meeting. I would think that the Planning Committee would prefer to consider the safety concerns of a community that they are approving several buildings in, but the “loud” portion of the Planning Committee did not seem to be concerned. If this wasn’t a valid concern, then I wouldn’t have been at this meeting. Time is a valuable object that I do not prefer to spend on “public” meetings for city council items, nor follow up through a meager TH-cam comments page. However, we were all there from the neighborhood because we value our community and we willing to spend the time necessary to voice our concerns. Some on the Planning Committee cared about it, some did not, and some reacted with judgement based on emotion.
The commission couldn't understand that we were asking them to take the issues already in the neighborhood into consideration before approving 16 townhomes being built, not solve the problems already here. Keith Lee was ready to vote before the public even got to speak, Edwin Logan acted "child like" during the entire live feed even making the comment "Oh brother" when it was my turn to testify. The developer (Robert Pelosi) thought everyone's concerns were funny, and the public was rushed and dismissed throughout. Patti Cross voted yes only because her feelings were hurt, (which is not a valid reason). Only the board members that were active in asking questions and participating in the live were the ones that vote "no" because they listened and heard the peoples concerns. The fact they didn't table this debate or offer compromises is astounding. Robert Hewitt at Planning & Zoning was the one who advised the public to bring all of there concerns to the meeting and that in fact backfired in our faces. It's absolutely ashamed that 50 people showed up to speak against this but only a few were able to speak before they rushed to vote. SHAME ON YOU ALL!
