Cloth Curves Toolset in Houdini | Breakdown
This is a project that Agustín González and I have been developing together. We are excited to introduce a new toolset developed in Houdini, designed specifically for clothing creation or any other fabric using only curves.
We all know the traditional way of creating clothes in CGI, which involves a combination of colour textures, bump, displacement, among other techniques. The result doesn't always give the desired result; it doesn't react to light as it should or just feels flat.
This toolset enables the creation of clothing from a more realistic approach where the fabric is represented by a set of threads intertwining as they would in real life.

what is the hardware needed to simulate this ? and is the resulted simulation heavy ? if u have many clothes on many characters can it still function ?

thanks ! did some tests but the color texture doesn't show-up (h20.5.332), I have the AO plug to a multiply node but there is no MtlX image for color
Does this happens to every Megascans asset?
@@pepe.buendia at least with 2 different assets, I will try with more
It could be an issue related to the naming convention of texture files. The tool is sensitive to how Megascans assets are organized and named, and I can't guarantee that the newest and future assets they upload won't have changes. However, I tested a lot of assets and didn't encounter this issue. If you compare the files with an asset that works you can set the textures named and location by hand and then build the asset.
@@pepe.buendia got the same problem with the Assets from fab (Quixel Megascans). If i try to build the Material manually it doesnt work. What can i do ? the naming should be right.

@ Pepe Buendia - looks awesome, my question would be I see the there is a tearing done at the end of the preview? simulating that amount of curves isn`t that heavy to work on or is there a technique you guys are using and then call the high res fabric onto the torn mesh?
Thank you! Yes we are not simulating all the curves. The workflow is to simulate a mesh and then deform the curves with it, we have a deform module that takes care of the deformation and also has tearing options.
@pepe.buendia would love to see further the deform/tearing and module when u get the time.I am curious to see the process that is sharing the cut patterns between the temp deform mesh and actual cloth curves. Anyways not to intrude and be over demanding..superbly made man.Cool stuff!

Hey can you tell me what to learn to do these geo to curve, like I have thought of making spider webs and such things but I don't know how to approach it , or where to start to begin with, pls help 😅
I can't really tell you what you need to learn to do that exactly. Focus on having a good understanding of Houdini, procedural generation and maybe some knowledge of the grooming workflow inside Houdini.

Hello Sir, when I do everything as you say, and when I try to add the PB node in stage I receive Fatal error: Segmentation fault. Everytime I tried to add it in ost or even import it localy for the hip file

Hey Pepe, awesome tool! I was waiting so much :) On my side it works perfectly except it doesn't build the USD file the USD folder as it's supposed to do. I tried with the hip file you attached but still, it doesn't export an .USD file
Hey Damien, thank you! The tool itself doesn't export a USD file, you need to use an usd rop to export it once the asset is built
I just uploaded a new version, now there is a "Export to USD" button so you can use it to export your USD files.
