Driving from Heidingsfeld to Giebelstadt

Driving from Heidingsfeld up the old B19 toward Giebelstadt. Many who were stationed at Giebelstadt Air Base remember this was the main road to Würzburg. Shot in May 2017 SJ4000 camera Music from Horst Jankowski's "A Walk through the Black Forest" which was popular in 1965.

Driving south on B19 through small villages such as Herchsheim, Euerhausen, Höttingen, Bütthard, Gützingen, Allersheim back to Giebelstadt. Video taken in May 2017 with SJ4000 roof mounted. Music is provided by www.bensound.com

I wonder how the modern town compares to how it was in wwii. My granddad was there with the 8th air force after they left the air base in watton, England. Told me it was snowing the entire time,bitterly cold with very little sunlight. Being from Alabama it was his first experience with more than an inch of snow at most.
I first got there in 63'. Most towns were rather dirty and Wurzburg still had bomb damage in spots. The base didn't change much until the Army took over in late sixties. It was snowing when I arrived.

While stationed in Gieb 72-74, i lived in Alersheim a few clicks south and off B19. I had no car so had to catch rides or sometimes I'd walk the distance. Sometimes I'd cut across fields. Really peaceful on cold snowy nights all alone our there with the stars overhead and snow crunching beneath my boots. I stopped once to watch some farmers loading their honey wagon in their barn. I was so much younger then.
I was there in73 and 74. Great times
Hi John, lots of folks from Giebelstadt over at Giebelpeople on Facebook. I was stationed there when it was a radar site during the cold war.
I was there 72-74. 3/67th ADA, 3rd ID. Good times.
Was stationed there from 2004 to 2006, until BRAC closed down the post. I miss it dearly.
I miss Gieb so much. Such a wonderful community
was there in76-79 it very pretty back then, thank you for the memories.

I was stationed in Gieblestadt in the 80's. My family heritage is German so I naturally loved the country and the people. My friends and I spent a lot of money at the Ankor bar, the Lutz, and driving all over the place just taking in the country's history. I had an apartment on Friedenstrasse in Gieb, very fond memories and thanks for the video.
Glad you liked it Ernie. I was stationed there in the early sixties and married a local girl. I've returned many times and will always love the area and the German people.

Grew up at Oesfeld (3 km from Bütthard), living at Stuttgart since 45 years now. Nice area, love it...
I miss being able to see for miles. Where I live in Raleigh, NC it is very wooded.
