Personal Ranking: Live-Action Jasmine
I didn't think I cared about this character enough to rank, but I got a lot of requests and questions on if I would, so I did it! I'm glad I waited so long - many of these voices were newcomers back then, and have since been seen elsewhere.
I also appreciated Speechless more when I discovered that meeting Aladdin and going on the carpet ride happened BETWEEN part 1 and 2 - I think the whole 'falling in love as a catalyst for change' is a great development for a character and having a love interest inspire a character to be strong is WAY BETTER than "she's a strong woman, she doesn't NEED a man!"

Mulan's Chinese voice, Coco Lee, died really recently on July 5. I always enjoyed her version a lot so I tried giving it a go. I haven't done much Chinese historically, but I'm getting my voice part after having some time off from my job that really kills the pipes.

Ngl had very low hopes for this film but I do really love the instrumentation of the new POTW. I am thinking of making this a mini series. It's a lot harder to lip synch with this version but that last high note is sooo satisfying....

I don’t know if you take requests. That’s fine. But you should sing a proper Bulgarian version of Colours of the Wind since the film only got a voiceover, yet the songs have proper lyrics that rhyme and are in time.

2:13 Okay I’m gonna be honest. Katja Ajster comes off as a creep to me. While overusing a sultry, sassy voice isn’t a red flag itself - when I looked her up, I found out that she constantly brands herself as “sexy” (in her own words, even on a page where she talks about her work in dubbing children’s media) and has a Solely Air Conditioners page even though she works in children’s entertainment. I know she’s an adult with free will but it’s concerning that she builds this image for herself while constantly working with Disney, Nickelodeon, etc. I literally don’t like her.

The early Kazakh dubs like Frozen 1 are TV dubs that are non-DCVI and therefore not under their quality control. There’s some recently released dubs that I’m not sure whether they’re TV dubs or not.

@@raneemacintosh6842 thx. I was in Quebec in the summer and I thought I sounded like an idiot with my very fake-Parisian accent. Btw Acadian French DOES pronounce it because it’s a really old dialect that didn’t change much over a long time
@@WinxAliNelCielo I'm not from Quebec and I definitely don't have their accent. They can sometimes make ppl feel foolish but many Quebec people speak English anyway.

On the note of Disney I did a meet and greet as Woody in Quebec (I’m not a professional cosplayer, just decided to dress weird to Walmart as a joke and of course kids are fascinated) and the kids understood me (though I had to make them speak clearer by saying cowboys are Mexican and he’s an old toy so his hearing’s going) and didn’t care that I don’t sound like him 🤷♂️🤦♂️
Every time Elsa sings in Latvian there are a billion extra syllables and it begins to sound like she’s stumbling over her words
@@WinxAliNelCielo a lot of Latvian translations have this problem but it's particularly egregious there (and in Wish!) And it particularly annoys me how the lyrics often don't even rhyme

Brooooo what, I can’t believe I’m seeing a live action Jasmine ranking from you. It’s been so long since I paid any mind to these voices so my opinion is extremely vague, but eeeee at Romanian’s placement, she’s still my favourite. I love how my flat out last place is among your top 3, that’s what is so fascinating about rankings - you get new perspectives on voices. Your first place was surprising mostly because I had totally forgotten about her existence and I couldn’t for the life of me figure out which version it was going to be when I was approaching your #1, but I agree it’s a wonderful version

Beautiful video ! We mainly have similar opinions on Jasmine. I just find quite funny your comment about Lara Suleiman, as I personally prefer her Jasmine way more than her Luisa, for exactly the same reasons you prefer her Luisa over Jasmine, lol. My biggest disagreements for sure here are French being that low and Ukrainian being that high. Mirianti is a treasure!

I would have never expected this ranking from you, mainly cause I think I remember you saying that you wouldn't 😂 I always love reading your ingenious and detailed opinions! The day the leading female character in a Disney film isn't dubbed by Jasmine Cai in Taiwan, I will be very worried xd Even I, a non-native English speaker, have caught the Broadway enunciation thing. It was present until Frozen (Kristen Bell, at least, had it, Idina, she pronounced many things weirdly, so idk), then Auli'i kinda had it in some points, then they forgot about it in all of the following movies (Live actions and animated)... And wish is just insane omggg I kinda die when I try to imagine this pop sounding accent if it was in a Spanish dub, noonononono plz I'm praying it'll never happen 💀 I love the german singer's voice so much, but I get what you mean, though the only vibrato that bugs me stratospherically is a type of kinda operatic vibrato, that sounds as if you were cutting it? Like metallic... And quite forced. It's actually quite similar to Halle's, it shares this watery characteristic, but I actually really like hers... I love the Czech singer so much... She's just so full of passion and strength, she's incredibly emotional whenever she needs to, and she's the one that moves me the most in this song! I insanely agree with what you explained about Monali and Shuang... They are my big favourites here just because of the emotional depth of their performances. They sound so tormented yet mentally strong in a way that's indescribable. Your top 10 is filled with gems, I love it so so so much, I LOVE all of them, I think I am you, you are me, literally the same top 10, then you add Mandarin, Hindi and Czech as the extra cherry on top and you have it :D Thanks for Castilian! People usually don't like her that much, so it's cool to see some appreciation 🥲
@@ALEX.GARCIA_DUBZ i think I'm a bit biased on the Spanish dubs bc I first worked on this before and after my Spain trip, but I think they both have character! I see some resemblance in Czech to one of my fav czech voices, Elsa, but a bit less stable so she couldn't end up on top.

yessss! I was actually REALLY waiting for this ranking of yours. Okay, agree on most low places, kinda surprised to see Hiba THIS low but then, it is true that her vocal performance was not REALLY up to the mark, the struggle in her voice was real. I actually thought Ding Shuang would be your #1 at one point cuz she has several of the same qualities as the Russian 1992 Jasmine had, in terms of vocal quality and even the delivery.... But my biggest happy moment is seeing Sunitha Sarathy where she is! People often get overly bothered by her timbre but I think she sounds very normal. I'm even surprised you mentioned she has some 'Indian feel', because to me as an actual Indian, she frankly sounds SO western, which probably comes off the fact that she trained in Western Gospel music and her voice developed that way. I guess an Indian will sound 'Indian' anyhow, no matter how they train or use their voice HAHA. Romanian and Portuguese in the top 10 are a big yes from my side, and of course, #1 is a MAJOR favorite of mine with those riffs and that rustic, full-sounding voice both complementing each other SO WELL in Speechless. Really interesting ranking actually, glad to see the ups and downs of my faves and plenty of surprisessss

i only watched this movie like.. once back in 2020 LOL so i don't have super strong opinions on live action jasmine's voices. speechless is a good song though and i'm really happy to see chinese and italian so high! i think they're amazing. i can't help but hear "HELL YEEEEAAH" in the finnish version. miranti is also really good and i'm impressed that she fits pretty much every single character she plays, even fei fei. watching this and the live action ariel rank is really funny knowing that you're not gonna rank live action belle LMAOOO (i don't blame you though. that movie is ass)
Hooray a new ranking from you! - I'm so sick of Jasmine Cai too 😅she mentioned once in an interview she got cast as Elsa because she took singing lessons with the dubbing director... - Interesting where you rank Naomi Scott, definitely agree it's sad to see Disney move away from the articulate musical-theatre styles to trendy pop styles - Swedish, I belong to those for who the era has not ended 😅 - Couldn't agree more that too many dubs make Speechless sound far too angry & aggressive! sure she's advocating for things, but it almost detracts from Jasmine's character - Franka, totally feel the same about her too! she objectively is great, but just keeps getting pushed down when you rack & stack - Monali, loved your description on her (those are always more interesting than the number itself) - Meshi, very surprised to see her so high (same for Korean) - Telugu, haha yes she totally sounds like Hindi Elsa! - Our top 10s (arbitrary cutoff) couldn't look more different but I loved watching this video! 🩷

RE: English - my favorite new female voice of the past 5 years has definitely been DIANE as ISABELA, who has the most traditionally princess-style voice of anybody since Frozen.

Last place hurt my ears lol. Although I'm not a fan of this live action movie, rankings of Disney community made me fall in love with the "Speechless" song. Thanks for 15th, 13th, 11th, 6th and 3th. My version (8th) seems to not be very popular so I'm happy she's great for you. I was scared cause I thought you forgot about Olha but then I saw her in 2nd position! YES!! I find her extremely underrated by the fandom although I'm really glad that she has been getting more fans nowadays. Her speechless is so soulful and show-stopping with no doubts. Good job!
I didn't expect to see your Jasmine Live action ranking. Well, we have some agreements and disagreements. Anyway, congrats to the winner. She is not my favourite one ( she is 29th in my ranking), but I love to see how unique and different our tastes are. I love the comments which are so real and honest. I can't wait your Asha's ranking somewhere in the future, especially to hear your opinion about Tjaša (Slovenian Asha) cuz I love her so much, even though I am not sure if she is my number 1.

Both are amazing, but I prefer Franka here. Franka is in my second place, while Irina is in eighth. Maybe the lyrics also influenced my opinion. The Croatian version feels more natural; the Serbian translation has some odd lines. For example, "grad nad nama nestaje" translates to "the city is disappearing above us." How can the city disappear above them if it's under them? Or "jer živim grlo kad ruka stegne," which means "because I live when a hand tightens around my neck," which sounds super weird. I also hate how they changed the lyrics of "A Whole New World" in Croatian. I always prefer the original lyrics. The worst case was what they did with "The Little Mermaid."
