Jon is more than willing to admit that he can't do Zak as well as Zak himself can. I think in the Savatage Rockumentary he even said in retrospect that Poets And Madmen needed another year for songs to be re-recorded to better-suit Jon's voice, but that they opted not to delay the album any further because it had already been four years since a new Sava album had come out.
@ckokpenno Are you saying his skills as a keyboardist are lacking? If so, I think that's an unfair assumption. I think it's more impressive that he's not professional, not trained, not technical, because the stuff he can do with a piano and music composition is the stuff of legends.
Savatage elite heavy metal, without disregard Lassic great bands but this band in the opinion of many people in Brazil is very important in their lives
I suppose it is the true Savatage, to me, they are pretty much a whole new band after EOT, but I still really enjoy the later albums. Its still good music. Long live the Mountain King
Fight for the Rock? You really think that album can measure up to anything in Savatage's discography from Hall of the Mountain King onward? That might be the only bad album Savatage has ever made and songs from that record have only very seldomly been played live by the band and Jon Oliva's Pain.
I don't care about the new Savatage staff and the fans of it! Okay it is good music,by the way. But the REAL,TRUE,ONE and ONLY Savatage are "SIRENS","THE DUNGEONS ARE CALLING","POWER OF THE NIGHT","FIGHT FOR THE ROCK","HALL OF THE MOUNTAIN KING" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and more or less"GUTTER BALLET". Don't believe anything else, don't listen to some one talking other bullshit!!! "Raise the fist of the Metal child"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! or DIEEEE!!!!!!
and chris caffery learned criss's stuff FROM criss, since he joined the band on the gutter ballet tour and spent 4+ years with him. all of those guys are very accomplished players though, as you said.
Savatage owns. I saw Jon Olivas Pain a couple of weeks ago on Sweden Rock festival and he was really awesome. Savatage is a really underrated band. They debuted as early as 1983 (same as Metallica which is overrated) but noone speaks about them. A shame on such a good band.
Savatage fans will alwyas argue about who was the best guitarist, but like badpuppy said, we all have our own opinions. I think no matter what, criss will always be the best for savatage, its just a matter of who replaced him. Caffery, Pitrelli, Skolnick, and even Jack Frost all deserve credit for being excellent players. However, I think that Caffery has been the best replacement, because he has been with the band the longest and learnt all of Criss's stuff. The debate will always continue. RIP
In a recent interview, Jon stated that Savatage wasn't quite done. They are only on break for a while simply due to TSO's huge popularity and other personal things. Jon continues to write music until he physically can't anymore. Savatage plan on producing something big for their 25th anniversary.
It is, but I can't say I blame them. Jon Oliva ended up shelling out over a million dollars from his own pocket just to keep the band going as long as it did. Well at least we still have Jon Oliva's Pain, Zak Steven's Circle II Circle, Chris Caffery's solo work, and TSO.
Love it!
Number One!!!!👍💪🤟🤟
Thanks Craig
Zak period the best. Best vocals ever
Man, I'm sorry I never got to see these guys during this era; this was crazy-good music.
I want to hear Jon Oliva record every Zak era song and release it lol. I like Zak at times but he doesn't have character in his voice like Jon does.
He has done a few acoustic versions that have appeared as bonus tracks. They are pretty awesome.

Jeff plate?
Richard Gere was always the most melodic singer of Savatage
Lol.
Zak energia pura !!!!!!!!!
What's with Savatage and 'Damien: The Omen II'?
is Chris Caffery dead, what happened, if so may he rest in peace
marcos pitta he's still alive
marcos pitta criss Oliva is the one that died

4:13 wtf is he doing?

@diedwithmybootson None of which, however, in my eyes, even comes close to the awesomness of Savatage.

I actually enjoy a lot of the songs from Fight For The Rock. I'd say it's better than Wake Of Magellan but not better than anything else.
Shouldn't Streets be included on that list or are just talking about their heavier albums?
i really dont care if he's not technical, i think he's good and the keyboard lines in savatage are cool as hell. but what the fuck do i know.

Which got hyped by the media as the best metal album in the last few years...
He even adopted Criss's preference for stainless steel picks.

0:10-0:27...the heaviest thing ever XD

who the fuck are the jonas brothers?

Excellent!

This comment aged like wine.

It`s truly a catastrophy that they are gonna split...
