A lot of people focus too much on whether someone should move out if they have to pay rent or do chores, or if they should be expected to do these things. The question is, AITA for moving out. That's an easy NTA. Adults can move out, OP can afford to take care of himself. Whatever tradeoffs he chose to make to move on, graduating later, working more hours or whatever, is just him being an adult at an appropriate time in his life. A lot of AITAH lose sight of the basics. Like if you don't need a reason to break up with someone, if you are unhappy in a relationship or if you don't see it going somewhere it's fine to breakup, how you do it will dictate whether you are an AH. If a young adult wants to move out and take care of themselves, regardless of the reason, they are NOT the AH, the household chores and child rearing are the parents' responsibility.

I understand why he did what he did, but it was an asshole move. He could have easily spoke to his parents. Paid rent and did less chores in the house. Becoming a contributor to the household would cancel out the need of him having to do most of the chores. He would be paying less money to them then he would if he were to pay rent on his own. But regardless, he's grown and he can make his own choices. But to all the people in here acting as if it is so wrong to have the children doing the chores in the household. That's the trade-off for your parents paying all of the rent. Not only is this technically a rite of passage, it is literally how families are supposed to work. Once the children are old enough to contribute around the household, they get to work so that the parents are able to do more for the household. If you have children and you legitimately are refusing to have them do chores when they get older, you are going to create a monster that no one will want to attach themselves to. Trust me when I tell you. People would rather do bad all by themselves then being a relationship with somebody that makes their lives worse.

Being a roommate to a single parent doesn't make you responsible for their kid. Roommates are not obligated to share food if it wasn't agreed upon in advance, including cost, cooking, and cleaning.
