Season 5 was a major test of my resilience. Up until this stage there had been character deaths, but not so many in one short stretch of episodes. This is where the stakes and violence escalated both rapidly an unexpectedly. Laroy dying off screen was one thing. But then Dawn's death at the end of the episode was truly horrifying. I'd only just recovered from that when only two episodes later, Opie's sacrifice truly knocked me for six. That was the true turning point for SOA for me. The moment you realised absolutely nobody was safe.

Of all of the antagonists this show had, Damon Pope was the best. I'd have much rather see him win against SAMCRO.

I hate to admit it, but at the time this aired I thought everything Pope said just made sense. I still do, in fact. He knew the game so well and was just prepared to move the pieces to maintain relationships.

The way he showed his place in their lives...making it known he was the executioner and the passing the baton on, all with the uppity smiling tone....

You know whats crazy, had leroy been as cunning as jax, he could have organized the niners to secretly take out pope and marks. Laroy had the soldiers and the gun power to wipe them out. If I was leroy, after pope's daughter was killed I would have had to take both pope and august out, at that point its him or me. Leroy should have known it was only a matter of time before pope had him killed once his daughter was gone. It would have been a risky move because one of the niners could have ratted him out but I think it woulda been worth the shot since he got killed anyway.

I wish we had Pope for one more season, he was one of the strongest antagonists they created, and not to mention he wasn’t the one who started this “war”, he was retaliating

1:17-1:22, there is a historic and antagonistic attitude amongst Blacks towards those considered White Trash in the US and this dialogue catches that perfectly. Granted had it been Pope talking to a Mafia head who said the same things about Pope being too ambitious and too smart, he’d reply like Jax saying something like “for a Moolie from Oakland” to the mobsters knowing that already hostile feeling that exists.
