The cough didn't affect the match, because Smith said he didn't hear it. Professional dart players have to have the ability to ignore distractions such as crowds whistling, booing etcetera. It does have a definite advantage for whomever the crowd supports, and is far louder and distracting than the cough. It finished Pipe's career.
