The term, "teenager" became popular then. This was a teenager show.

Different time different place. Don't read to much into the lyric or the dance. This was before the "sexual revolution" and our society had very strong rules on the interaction between teen boys and girls with real consequences for breaking those rules. You may not know but schools had very strict dress codes and what the girls are wearing are what they wore to school, and except for the coat and ties the boys are wearing what they wore to school. No T shirts, no shorts, dress or skirt had to reach below the knees. Friday nights High Schools had "sock hops" in the gym (socks because you cold not wear regular shoes on the gym floors). The 1950s was the last innocent age for Americans.

Because the Hook will bring the listener back into the song. He is putting down music that uses a lot of words but are meaningless and actually say nothing. Pure genius. And yes his Harmonica playing is legendary!!!
