Eek -a steek! (P202201)
A Gansey is a traditional fisherman's sweater from the UK or eastern North Sea. Traditionally they are knit in the round up to the armholes and the body separates at the arm holes with the front and back being knit separately "flat".
In "my first gansey" project I decided to continue knitting in the round for the whole depth of the body, and to cut the armholes after I had picked up the stitches for the arms.
This video shows the moment of cutting along the centre of the steek to create the armholes.

Holding Yarn For Stranded Knitting (T201906)
มุมมอง 3354 ปีที่แล้ว
Stranded knitting uses two or more colours of yarn in a single row or round. Each is used for a few stitches, and the unused yarn is "stranded" across the private side of the work to form "floats". This T-torial demonstrates three ways of holding two yarns when you are doing stranded knitting: pick up and drop the yarn; hold one yarn in each hand; and hold both yarns in one hand. The same appro...
Reading Colour Charts (T201908)
มุมมอง 1564 ปีที่แล้ว

Vertical Stripe Rib (T201905)
มุมมอง 3264 ปีที่แล้ว
Vertical stripe rib is a form of stranded knitting. It is often used for the edging of stranded knitting projects, such as cuffs and neck bands. Like standard rib it does not curl, but it does not stretch either. Show notes are at: teabreakknitter.uk/t-torial/vertical-stripe-rib-t201905/ If you found this video useful, please consider making a donation to my chosen charity: teabreakknitter.uk/a...
Finishing the Nahanni River (P202002)
มุมมอง 3804 ปีที่แล้ว
This is the fifth and final podcast in a series about how I knit the Nahanni River vest designed by Betts Lampers and published by Simply Shetland. I also show you the final garment, and talk about the lessons I learned while knitti...
Cutting a steek (T202004)
มุมมอง 3364 ปีที่แล้ว
Steeks allow you to continue knitting in the round, even when there is an opening in the item being knitted (such as an armhole). They are often used in traditional stranded colour work. This T-torial explains how to cut the steek when you have finished knitting the fabric. Show notes are at: teabreakknitter.uk/t-torial/cut-steek-202004/ If you find this video useful, please consider donating t...
Reinforcing a steek with crochet (T202001)

Knitting Backwards (T202002)
มุมมอง 1334 ปีที่แล้ว
Knitting backwards (also known as mirror knitting) is a technique that allows you to know while keeping the public (right) side of the work facing you. Many knitters find it useful when working short rows because it means you do not have to turn your work every few stitches. It can also be useful with stranded colour work because you are always working with colour pattern visible, rather than s...

Would be perfect if I could make my hands cooperate. I'm a left handed knitter but of course there's not A SINGLE instructional video for stranded work thats for left handers. And trying to visualize the reverse isn't working. I'm gonna set it down for now before I end up throwing it through a window and come back to it tomorrow.

That's perfect. I'm doing my first steek. I was wondering whether to pick up before cutting and this confirms my thoughts. But also the tip about picking up both sides of the stitch to make the cut steek sit flatter is so helpful.

So glad I found this. I have been looking and looking for information on how to do this. Most videos on steeks just say now pick up stitches for button band or edge and leave it at that.
