@@sgs3576 Great point! Here’s how I took future Vegeta. In the main timeline during the android/Cell saga, he’s shown as not caring about his family but we see when Trunks is killed that he does in fact care but bottles up his feelings. He was still going through emotional changes and wasn’t fully reformed yet. The entire experience of the cell saga pushed those changes. However in the alternate future he does not have the same experiences so what else changed? Goku’s death. Much like the main timeline, he would’ve used the excuse upon arrival on earth that he wanted to wait for Goku to return to see a super Saiyan with his own eyes. Freeza and his father come, Goku arrived and defeats them. He now devotes himself to training and achieving it himself…then Goku, his one rival dies. This makes him keep to himself for the next few years, staying with Bulma and eventually his infant son but not showing any strong emotional feelings, still when the Earth was threatened he was on the frontline when he died. I feel this Vegeta was similar to the Vegeta in the 7 year gap after the cell games. Devoted to training, caring about his family but not blatantly showing feelings. Still Bulma knew he cared. Again this is just my personal take.

@@newfleshentertainment your analysis makes a lot of sense, I also think it went this way. Goku’s death in the future timeline must have had a huge impact on Vegeta. In the history of trunks, there is a small clip of him, he was there when Goku died. I always wondered why future Vegeta still stayed on earth, but what you said explains it.

@@jaded9234 First of all, I definitely agree about Kuririn and 18 which is why I hesitated when I motioned them at the end of the video…definitely a random pairing. Second, i too am curious about 17’s wife, and third I had never even thought about that but now I want to see a road trip story with them!

@@newfleshentertainment Vegeta & Bulma are already underused even with the noticeable time they had. 17 & 18 have not really been utilized to anywhere near their full utility. First off, I'm almost certain that they are the DB-equivalent of Russian and they are obviously intelligent. They are capable of single, and co-op oneliners, and they both can carry a scene by themselves, between them and the prince, they've likely got enough of an observational sense to nitpick everything and, given the motivation, they could complain, argue and belittle, and intimidate people. Here's the kicker... In the "Roadtrip" story, Everything they do, whether they save someone, fight someone, save the day, it would always be for the pettiest reasons and the smug satisfaction of saying that they were correct. No serious threat. Nope, the twins just annoyed Vegeta (Because yes, of course he randomly learned how to drive) so bad that he pulls the car over and they end up stumbling in on some situation.

@@dessnee Thank you so much! I completely agree about the subtlety working in favor for their relationship. Instead of the in your face “I love you”, we can tell how much these two care by all the little things shown.

Reminds me of when Vegeta said after seeing Bulma get hit… BULMA…. MY BULMA!!! That was Perfect it was all I needed to hear when I said Vegeta is a changed man! 😊

@@marca8368 Yeah, it’s pretty much how I took the whole Kaioshin stuff. He never really cared too much about continuity - people forget he was mostly a gag mangaka and just wanted to make a fun manga not to be taken too seriously.

@@newfleshentertainment I disagree with this take. Dragon Ball took a more serious route in the Piccolo Daimao and JR sagas and the Cell and Frieza sagas were writing wise the most serious parts of the story while the Buu saga started serious but then it quickly took a fun and comedic narrative filled with action and epic moments it was only in Super when Toriyama sensei choose to make it less serious and more fun and comedic as it used to be before the piccolo daimao and jr arcs.

@@theveryproudmoroccan2834 while of course it took a more serious route, it did not become a heavily serious manga which is what I was implying. It still had goofy moments and for the most part had a lot of plot points that often didn’t make sense and just served the story he was telling. He never put too much into keeping things make sense and often created convenient plot devices. Sorry if my comment made it seem that I was implying it was always a comedy.

@@newfleshentertainment Well the same thing could be said for Tolkien´s LOTR where certaim plot holes and inconsistencies exist whithin the story that ended up leading to an amazing and worth reading narrative. Dragon Ball isnt the only story that suffers from this problem but critics often use it as a weapon to put it down while ignoring the fact that some writing mistakes were still compensated by epic action, great comedy, unforgettable villains, epic moments and a great narrative.

@@theveryproudmoroccan2834 1000% agreed. Which is why the whole kaio shin thing in Daima doesn’t bother me at all.

@@Deadhood9127 I agree with the first part. He was still quite selfish then and was so frustrated with failing to defeat 20 before he escaped that his anger got the best of him. However in the boo saga he clearly gets upset when Goku didn’t try to save Goten, trunks, piccolo and Gohan and it’s Goku who tells him he had no choice. Bulma had died before Vegeta even came back to earth. I’d say the 7 year gap after the cell games is where most of his development took place. Though we get a glimmer of it when Cell kills Trunks.

@@newfleshentertainment but Buu never would’ve been resurrected if Vegeta didn’t give into Babadi Buu was born cause of Vegeta wanting to fight Goku in result Buu killed everyone in the universe

@@Deadhood9127 i see what you’re saying. Vegeta tries to act tough and tells Goku that he did it on purpose to discard any soft feelings he had but Goku legit calls BS on that. And Vegeta isn’t perfect but hell, nor is Goku. If Goku had just killed Freeza on Namek, etc etc. Vegeta owns up to his mistake when he confronts boo and apologizes for Gohan’s presumed death. He knows he f’d up and realizes what’s important at that very moment when he hugs trunks and sacrifices himself. The dude goes through a lot of character development. And just to throw it out there, Goku is to blame as well as he admits he could’ve defeated fat boo as super Saiyan 3 but wanted the younger generation to take care of it. Anyway, thanks for the comments. Always fun discussing this stuff with other fans.

The middle finger gesture is also well know in Japan and Toriyama occasionally had characters use it to show attitude. Though as I point out in the video only about half were actually in the manga and the anime took liberties and added more. Also important to note, Toriyama never had Goku or Gohan do it as they were too pure for such a gesture.

@@newfleshentertainment the most realistic thing that happened was they had an argument and Yamcha decides to take a break from her which most likely leads Bulma to firmly believe that he's cheating on her without so much as a solid lead or evidence to prove it. She became blinded by her own insecurities and used Vegeta as a sort of fling. I'm thinking too deeply into this but it HAS to be the case.

@@mortalballgt52 Well, towards the end of the original anime/younger years when Chi-Chi meets them all for the first time at the tournament she brings up how Yamcha confessed his love for her which enrages Bulma showing an insecure side to her despite the fact he explained to her that he didn’t really have feelings for Chi-Chi. Earlier there’s a filler episode where Yamcha has a run in with a woman who Bulma thinks he’s cheating on her with. So you’re not wrong that there’s a pattern there!

@@newfleshentertainment I don't want to be that guy but Yamcha dodged the bullet regardless of whether he's happy or not. They only got together as a convenient last resort. They were teenagers after all.

Like I said, I like Bulma and don’t think she was bad or anything but clearly they just didn’t work and I think like I said towards the end of the video that they both understood that as they got older which is why they remained close friends. Even in Z when she left him for Vegeta, they were only in their mid-twenties so still fairly juvenile

While I agree that he’s basically used for this - many manga series do this. I mainly wanted to point out that he isn’t a bad character.

Worf in Star Trek The Next Generation is used like this too. He's the "tough guy" on the crew, so when you need to demonstrate an alien threat's power, they'll take down Worf. It happens in about half of all the episodes of the show.

Like I said in the video, I don’t really blame Toriyama for Yamucha being shoved aside later in the series as the villains just got too powerful but to be honest right from the get go all the side characters were essentially useless. The first major arc - the red ribbon arc is basically Goku by himself for the most part. Read enough manga and you’ll see as you said, most mangaka do this. The main guy does most of the heavy lifting. Just the way it is lol
