    I personally love the story telling, conversational Charlotte Mason style …I have used BJU Press and Abeka for American history and that was dry, my son did not like either. But this time with MBs history ..he is reading through it very quickly, he enjoys it, we enjoy the variety of activities in the TG and most importantly the timeline is his favorite part. We love it and will be doing 2 and 3 in the same year. It’s light enough so that you can choose where to do a deep dive yet stand-alone it’s sufficient. He is retaining a lot and I’m very impressed. He is more analytical, strong in science and math so this course made history very interesting and not boring. I’m not sure if we will stick with the world history bc I might choose Mystery of History bc there seems to be more covered in that one as opposed to MB. As a middle schooler I feel he will be ready for a more in depth look at world History so that he may feel prepared for the HS courses.

    This was fun and I loved all of your book suggestions! Will definitely be adding them to my list! I have been prioritizing read-alouds with my children this year, and it's so good! Even though it can be hard to do with a 1 and 3 yr old, it's still one of the best parts of our homeschool/bedtime. Reading the book The Read Aloud Family, really inspired me. For bedtime with the kids we have been reading the Mercy Watson series, and we have all loved it!!! We're still working on it. For myself I've been reading You're Teenager Is Not Crazy ( which I actually heard of from you), and also No Longer Little by Hal and Melanie Young. They're both really good so far! 😊❤

    I just want to say I love your sweater. I also want to tell you that laundry for a large family is a lot. I know that you say y'all do laundry for everyone once a week, one thing I have also found that works really well as to do 1:00 to 2 loads per day and that's it. I get it done early in the morning so it can be done before we start our school day. Ask for dishes I'm not sure if you have a dishwasher or not. My dishwasher is an amazing tool for me to use to help with dishes. I am able to load it each day and even if it is not full I will run it at night. It actually takes less water to run a dishwasher than to wash them and rinse them by hand. If you do not have a dishwasher then maybe you can use that as a tool for your oldest kids to learn how to get them properly to help. Just some suggestions to try to help them. I know everyone situation is different and what works for one may not work for another. Love your videos!

    I am reading Creatures Great and Small by James Herriot.I have Love Without Borders but I haven’t managed to read it yet. I may need to add that to the top of my to be read list. Our read aloud right now is The Vanderbeekers of 141st Street and we are loving it! I am hoping to read Heartwood Hotel afterwards. I’ve wanted to go through that series with my kiddos and haven’t managed it yet 🤪 We are also Listening to Ember Rises (from the Green Ember series) on audiobook during car rides. I can’t recommend the Green Ember Series enough! We absolutely love it! Though if your kids are sensitive to things like battles and loss it may not be the book for you. My kids are 6 & 7 and they are always asking to listen. Especially my 6 year old.

      I linked it in the video I thought. Completely forgot to link it in the description though. We do mini pizzas where I take an English muffin or slice of bread and do pizza sauce, cheese and whatever toppings they want and I just cook it until the cheese is melted, let them cool then pop them in freezer bags and when they take them out they microwave them for a minute until they’re hot enough. We do the same with sandwiches I make a huge amount at the beginning of the month and freeze them then they toss them in the microwave or thaw them early in the day. Then they put whatever condiments they want, if any.

    Nothing wrong with paper plates and a large laundry pile if you have enough clothes as I find we get to the piles at a later time!!! On Monday we often make bread so I sometimes do it at a different day!!! We make it a homeschool lesson!!! We don’t eat leftovers and we never get them anyway with 4 teenagers and my husband who all eat a lot!!! We eat out during our travels or order room service and in Tokyo my teens loved the room service!!! My 13 year old cooks but I was more scared we. She was 11!!! We let her tho especially as she had done a cooking class previously!!! I’ve just bought a lot of books and my kids are loving them!!! Some are already in my older kids rooms!!! Our house has a lot of legos and I love it!!!

    I don’t know if this is helpful, but I was having dizziness and many other symptoms in 2020, and still struggle on the daily. I was diagnosed with chronic migraine

      Hmmm that’s interesting. So you didn’t have a traditional migraine and instead just dizziness? Or did you get migraines as well? Still trying to figure things out so I appreciate another thing to research and see if it’s a possibility. I’m currently taking the supplements that were recommended based off of my hair analysis and what I’m deficient in and that has helped a lot but time will tell if that’s the “cause” which I don’t think it is but odder things have happened

    • @kdwerner

      @ I had chronic upper neck tension and headaches as well, but it wouldn’t always manifest as head pain! It got so bad that I was getting numbness on one side of my body, having brain fog, and word finding issues, and then occasionally I would get severe headaches. There are actually migraines that can just be dizziness/vestibular related - they are called vestibular migraines. it might be something to look into!

    We’ve had a busy life so I definitely understand the break!!! We miss our friends in our old area but we love our new location but we came into a community so this move was easier!!! I love the book club area!!! My teenagers go to the local coffee shop for poetry!!! They started it!!! We love around the world In 80 days!!! I love the movie more than my kids!!! A Faith like my own reminds me of my childhood and my older kids know this story!!! My younger kids are hearing little bits as I want to tell them I’m an age appropriate way!!! Ur book club idea sounds awesome!!! We get state funding for books including faith books!!! I’m trying to listen to the 8 great smarts but it’s taking me forever!!! I love autobiographies and my teenagers also do!!! I’ve seen god work in my adopted teenagers!!! I’ve only had them for under a yr!!!

    I'm looking at both of the DK ocean books you showed. The white one (DK Ocean) and the Blue/Greenish one (DK Oceanology). What's the difference between the two? Which one should I pick? They show a young age for the blue one but in the reviews it says it's good for both children and adults. So I have no idea which one to pick. They make it so confusing

    • @HomegrownHomeschool
      @HomegrownHomeschool 27 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I’ll have to go through and look at them but usually, on my experience, DK books are good for all ages and books like these that cover the same topic just do it in different ways.

    I love the Sabbath schedule, it is such a help! Especially when I realize I am pushing a lot of home management tasks off because our homeschool is so busy 🤣 And we have always taken Thanksgiving to New Years off - it is such a wonderful experience for us! I honestly thought that when my kids got to high school, they would want a more traditional schedule like their public school friends, but every year they have wanted to start in the summer and take our big break at Christmas. It has been one of my favorite parts of homeschooling! I hope you love it 😊 As far as middle school math, we moved to teaching textbooks after Singapore Primary 6B. My kids are really strong in math, and have always done well with TT. The hair analysis sounds really interesting!

    I'm glad to hear that overall, everything is going well for your family! 9 months old already??!! Health issues are so frustrating anymore! I had a similar thing going on this year, but more stomach related. I finally ended up submitting bloodwork on my own to find some answers, only to have a dr tell me that the test was just a money maker😳 Good job for pushing forward on your own. Having adopted 2 teenagers we are trying to teach them German and we are pacing it!!! We split language arts tho!!! We live near planes and boats and we don’t mind it!!! We decided where the bedrooms are to help with noise!!! We are in our fall break and needing it!!! I have kids who need 2 math curriculums!!! I’m planning a science unit study!!! I bought math mammoth’s blue series but they are dry so I look for other options before I buy the blue series book!!! I use curriculum schedules as a guide!!! I love to go with the flow but I do plan as well beforehand!!!
