Carl Nielsen, Symphony No 4 'The Inextinguishable', Sibelius/Noteperformer virtual video score
Created using Sibelius music notation software (Version 7.1.3 First) and the Noteperformer 3 sounds engine.
The Sibelius Mixer allows only one setting, so I did the best I could to obtain a reasonable balance between instrument volumes in each movement. In addition I used hidden dynamics (~f, ~ff etc) to adjust volume, and also the midi ensemble message to increase the notional number of solo instruments for example, ~C104,3 on the Trumpet stave should sound like 3 players, and C104,1 delivers a solo instrument (notably solo passages by strings). Even so, it's difficult to get it right everywhere. The woodwind ensemble passages in the second movement, the string ensemble passages in the third movement and the timpani 'duel' in the fourth movement work quite well, the full orchestral climaxes with their 'glorioso' heavy brass, are more challenging.
This version of Sibelius only allows a maximum of 16 staves, so in order to include all instruments, I have merged divisi parts onto single staves using Sibelius' Voices. Piccolo is 'played' an octave up on the Flute stave. There are parts for Clarinets in both Bb and A, but I 'play' them both on the Clarinet in A stave. All this frees up separate staves for the two timpani in the final movement, the 'duel' between which is such a feature of this symphony. (For my video score of Nielsen's Fifth, with its battle between the snare drum and the orchestra, see this video th-cam.com/video/0EBwVozIwVo/w-d-xo.html.)
The audio lags behind the green line cursor due to the processing delay in exporting the audio from Sibelius/Noteperformer. This is noticeable (up to about 2 bars) in the faster passages.
For many more pieces (Rachmaninov, Beethoven, Mahler, Strauss and more) see my playlist th-cam.com/play/PLyurzG3wNkc_3YTJL3Kp7g-XfMFkKznPq.html

I can't believe you did this. Thank you!
One of my favorite symphonies of all time! Thanks for posting. I bet you learned a ton just from working with this score. Do you compose any of your own music?
Thanks for your interest, one of my favourites too. I don't compose, I'm afraid, but yes, I do learn a lot from creating performances of these great classical pieces.
Wow this was very interesting. you should do sibelius violin concerto next haha!
Hello, Nigel! Have You sib. file of complete symphony? Please!🙏
this is the only time note performer has actually disappointed me! I've heard better days from note performer on some other pieces, the cymbals are extremely weird
Hi! It’s Daniel. Very cool indeed dude! Can you do a music score on Noteperformer called Piano Concerto in A Minor 1st Movement by Edvard Grieg please? Thank you for your musical inspiration!
Very beautiful! This is cool! Have You sib. file of symphony?
This sounds really good. In some places the dynamics are a bit of. (For example in bar 25, the French Horns) You can compensate that by including hidden compensating dynamics. In this case add “f~ff” for the horns. Now the dynamic reads as “f”, but is played as “ff” You can also use the ensemble builder in Noteperformer. I don’t think Sibelius first allows plug-ins, but you can enter it manually. Enter “~C104, x” where “x” is the number of players. So for 6 Horns playing unisono, enter “~C104, 6” This makes a huge difference. Reset it using “~C104, 0”
Thanks, I'll experiment. Getting the balance right with a one-off setting in the Sibelius mixer with a large piece like this is tricky (but nevertheless, I still think it's amazing what sound you can get out of a laptop these days!) A quick try of the "C104" message seems to work!
This reminded me of the artist C148, who has created music for minecraft.
Nicely done - unfortunately the cymbal crash at 7:50 comes a measure early. 😉
You've got me there, but thanks for listening so closely! I'll correct it when (if?) I do a revised version.
Wonderful and orthodox version! esp the finale climax end let us remind the version of Erich Leinsdorf / Boston SO / RCA
