Announcement: Bus Safety Screen Rollout
We can't cure all of society's problems with perspex screens.
But we can help keep our bus staff safe at work while they go about keeping our city moving.
That's why I committed $3.2 million to get safety screens on our buses.
Speaking to those at the coal face today, our drivers, were greatly appreciative of these efforts.
The attacks on bus drivers have been a shocking reflection on the state of our society. It's a real shame that it has come to this and no doubt we need to address the root causes of these problems.
But our bus drivers are people with families who deserve to go about their job knowing they are safe. And while it's taken a bit longer than I would have hoped for, it's good to see things moving forward now.
Many thanks to all those who have been involved in making this happen.

What Brings Us Together

Last weekend was the Ōtāhuhu food festival. It was a packed out event with over 120 stalls and cuisine from around the world, live music and face painting for the kids. I love to see our communities out in full force and enjoying this event. Well done to Richette Rodger and her team at Otahuhu Business Association who organised this. You're doing a smashing job #auckland#otahuhu #food #festival...

The Deep-Seated Issue Beneath Our Prosperity

I love our City. Its vibrant streets, bustling cafes, the stunning Waitematā harbour. But, beneath the surface of our prosperity lies a deep-seated issue that we cannot and should not ignore - homelessness. Yesterday morning I was humbled to speak at an event for World Homeless Day. It was a chance to acknowledge the incredible work being done by City Mission, Lifewise and Kāhui Tū Kaha to erad...
How Ōtāhuhu Business Tackle Crime

There are some great initiatives to improve safety in communities being driven by local business. This one down at the Otahuhu Business Association of which I am a long standing committee member, is pretty neat. Shout out to Richette Rodger and her team for the great work they’re doing and for giving me a feed. Ka pai. #auckland #otahuhu #local #community #business #crime #safety #prevention

Nice korero.
good job protecting the bus drivers they need it,
very happy the rose gardens were protected.
Beautiful korero, this is what the promise of Tiriti o Waitangi is about, working together for a better Aotearoa. We are moving towards that promise of Tiriti even if it may not feel like it at the moment with this racist govt but the future Aotearoa is here and the old racists are dying off, kia kaha!
It's New Zealand pal and always will be..
@@neilstanley5565 Will always be Aotearoa, indigenous Māori comes first and always will whether you like it or not, "NZ" is a misspelt coloniser name from Netherlands slave port forced on the indigenous Māori without consent, we're moving away from the racist old coloniser era as they die off, an inclusive Aotearoa is here cant stop the future
How is the new government racist? Sounds like you're the racist one!
The old racist have kids who adopt their parents values and beliefs 😅
Aotearoa was first recorded as the maori name for nz by the colonial premier George Grey. There is no prior reference anywhere that maori had a name for the whole island group. In fact naming whole island groups is a european custom. Grey was prone to romanticism in his writings and today his accounts are not taken seriously by historians. The name Aotearoa was promoted by the colonial government through government owned publications such as the maori messenger etc.
What the lip will take us to? Any measurable Performance indicators? E.g travel time from Albany to CBd
Need a national transportation plan
Just please don't sell out to China and compromise on our values.
You should've supported the Māori Wards instead of sitting on the fence if you really wanted prosperity for ALL, all I hear from you is empty words
Every citizen of New Zealand is equal. You shouldn't get a different value of vote simply because of where your ancestors were born. We can tackle issues and create prosperity for all without compromising our values. We don't need Maori wards and Asian wards and European Wards and British wards and Pacifica wards and African wards and so forth... nor LGBTQ wards and female wards and male wards and working class words and middle class wards and property owner wards...
@@rosbaldiston7979 Thats a pakeha lie. Pakeha stole Maori land and resources in your "democracy". Your lies dont work in 2024 and tens of thousands of Kiwis will be heading to parliament Nov 19th to remind the whole world of your your coloniser damage and coloniser lies
Māori wards are undemocratic and don't solve anything.

Great to hear the discussion about the avondale southdown line. Its underated as a passenger line as it makes an isthnus circle line, where services can run out of britomart along the eastern line to glen innes, then go along the Avondale-southdown, then turns back up the inner western line at avondale to the city again and then back out onto the eastern line. Many large cities around the world have rail systems based on a circle line then radial lines intersecting at key points. Auckland has a circle line 70% built already and the other 30% already owned and designated.
Stop creating legislation and red tape that keeps forcing up the price of housing.
Seems like someone got rich by selling road cones.
Keep up the great work!

Two great New Zealanders!!! Sir Dove Meyer Robinson would be proud of you both!
Keep up the laser focus on making Auckland better
They are all over nz ! It’s a thriving industry
Great discussion!! I've just returned from Italy and was amazed that in the 30 years since I was last there, the infrastructure improvements are incredible. The tunnels being only one aspect. I read somewhere that the technologies available today, particularly within that area of the world, make for more efficient and less-risky projects. We need engineering and planning solve problems, not create them. Well done!!!
About one third of New Zealanders live in Auckland, so should be treated and governed appropriate to that number.
Wayne, remove your filter and let these guys get it straight. Really enjoyed your first few attempts at interviews before the media cried about hurt feelings
Why not a real public transport network? Reducing the number of cars crossing the bridge at a fair cost feels like good investment.
Good job chief
Chur Mātua Brownie. I learned so much watching this 😊. I enjoyed the candid ness of it all. Thanks 🙌
Have existing rail infrastructure across the country. Why don’t we still use it??
Right on Mayor Brown re different charges for trucks in and out of the port 👍 I used to travel into Parnell for work and know first hand the absolute shambles they cause to traffic flow. I always said on those commutes that port trucks should not be allowed on auckland central roads between the hours of 7am-9.30am and again 4pm-6.30pm. If you can't ban them during certain hours I think an incentive for outside those hours (middle of the night would be optimal) would work wonders to get Auckland moving more freely at those peak times.
Don't forget some water slides and diving boards
It's a temporary pool that we're getting at basically zero cost and getting done now. Will look at the feedback from that and use for a more permanent waterfront pool in the future 👍
@@MayorWayneBrown That's a pretty cool plan!
Have Chlöe on, that would be a fun chat!
Probably will at some point. We were neighbours on K rd
I love Auckland
One man I've liked and admired for a long time, the other is definitely growing on me
Kids’s wouldn’t be so anxious about the earth if the teachers and adults shut up about it and sorted it. There’s the problem right there, fear on the kids.
you might be on to something there
Awesome korero
Great chat lads.
