Love both of these tunes. Bravo👏Love Joan Armatrading.
Sounds beautiful :)
….the arrangement is a bit raw; and the trumpet is too bright and needs to sound mellow. great song
Excellent conception of musical interpretation.
Great singing, maybe even better than great!
Magical!
Love your lyrics & jazz notes❤❤❤
This was so fun Michelle! I'm the singer second from the right.
Hey, Andrew! I hope you're still singing up a storm. XX
Better late than never on the upload!
Why can’t i find this version on spotify
My God!!! But this is awesome!!!! I love your self-deprecation :-)) Great, Great!!!
JEEZE LOUISE. Thank you for this!!!! Spectacular. <3
Very cool!!
I love the way you harmonize with trumpet (like you do with guitar when there is one). I don't think I've heard anyone else do that.
Not better than, th-cam.com/video/CUa-WLKPDVE/w-d-xo.html ... just different 😃 Actually I love all your performances.
Beautiful rendition. Unfortunately some distortion on guitar - I'm assuming that's unintentional. When will you perform in Sydney?
this is bloody good! Definitely a real pianist, that a talking and walking the bass and all simultaneously is way more than doing two things at once. I'm amazed!
Cheers!
Downunder thunder lighting up NYC! ❤
Awesome!
Superb cover. ❤❤❤
Brilliant!
Awesome song. Like an Ellington suite!
Wonderful singing, really good!
Holy shit, this is flippin awesome Michelle!! X
Thanks, Gid! I forgot I had all this footage. X
Vibrato just how I like it. Pure serenity. Love the way the guitar does harmonies with Michelle.
Looooooooooooooooooooooooooove what you do with your voice !
Stunner, ty.
Thankyou.
Wow. Great musicians all.
The more I listen to you the more I realize how technically exceptional you are. It’s a rare singer who can sing a song with only flugelhorn and bass as backup. Incredible, unique and beautiful
Thankyou.
Unforgettable rendition of one of my favorite songs. Thanks!
Thankyou. x
@@michellenicolle1201 I am happy to have found your music but sorry I didn’t find it 20 years ago! We are in Houston,Texas. Do you ever perform here?
@@jeffreysteinbauer9755 Thankyou. The closest to Houston I've been is Denton at UNT. I've just had some video loaded of a concert in 2019 with the UNT Jazz Singers. Check it out. Hope to get back there sometime. x
@@michellenicolle1201 well if you’re ever in Denton again I’ll be there! It’s a great jazz program at UNT. no wonder they invited you.
Sounds great Michelle!
Thankyou.x
Can I 'like' this a bunch more times? This is my fav version of this song. Brava, Michelle!
Ha. Thankyou!! X
No version surpasses Henry Mancini's original.
What a voice - That scat intro is the most amazing voice control I have ever heard. Phrasing and empathy for the song was way on up there. Thanks so much for this Michelle.
love it :D
Killing!! Loved it
Que lujo. Gracias
!Dios que bonito¡ Gracias ;)
Thankyou. XX
Incredible! Just wow!!
Wow! Awesome. Your voice is an instrument.
Sings like an angel, plays piano….Marry me Michelle!! Wish you played in Connecticut, I would love to hear you live…in person that is. Great job!!
Sweet!
Thanks!
Wow! Gorgeous!
Thankyou. X
Michelle, you are truly amazing. Great video, great ensemble. Ty ❤
Thankyou, so much. X
Bravo!!!
Thankyou, that's very nice of you. X
Outstanding vocals !
Thankyou. xx
This is goddamned exquisite. Can’t wait to see this band at the Clarence Jazz Fest in February. Is it ok to come up and fanboy out afterwards? 🤩
Wonderful
Congrats! Big applause from Guatemala.
Very nice singing and arrangement. I don't know where Ms. Nicolle got that lyric from, but those aren't them. Not even close to them, including in quality. Word on the street is that Strayhorne wrote the lyrics just for Lena Horne at some time after her five years or so with Strayhorne & company in Pittsburgh, lifelong friends from then on. th-cam.com/video/ew_E589yakw/w-d-xo.html Bill Comstock is largely given credit for the lyrics used in a 1958 Four Freshmen album th-cam.com/video/DCy_1V9W2eU/w-d-xo.html The Horne lyrics differ somewhat, smoother, cleaner fit with the melody, and for some reason, I trust hers more than that of the Four Freshmen, which feel slightly off. But then, it's Lena Horne. She smoothed off the rough edges, at the very least. I can't find any other recorded versions of Chelsea Bridge with lyrics, which is puzzling, but still searching.
Once again, I go to Chelsea Bridge, A place that calls to me, Where I found my lover. In the solitude of misty night, Where fog deserts the sea, Looking for my lover. In the early days of spring, When love was young, We were children, Dancing through the clouds up on high. But the lights of spring turned to winter. Love grew old, And began its last goodbye. In my loneliness, I wait and pray, My love will come to me. Back to Chelsea Bridge. [Interlude] In the early days of spring, When love was young, we were children, Dancing through the clouds up on high. But the lights of spring turned to winter. Love grew old, And began its last goodbye. In my loneliness, I wait and pray, My love will come to me. Back to Chelsea Bridge.
Ella Fitzgerald sings Chelsea Bridge with the Duke Ellington in 1957. She scats it like a horn. And as usual is the best musician in the band. This version by Michelle Nicolle is really nice too. Its an amazing melody and dong by Strayhorn.
@@tonyperiphoto Curiously, there's also a Sara Vaughn version. She even says there's no lyrics. th-cam.com/video/zusDRqiiQzQ/w-d-xo.html Its a puzzle. Similarly one by Cassandra Wilson.
Hello Rob, I have only just found the way to view and respond to comments. (bit of a ludite, sorry). I am so curious to see those other lyrics and the story behind them. I honestly cannot remember where I learned the lyric I sing - as it's been so long. I have only heard Ella and Sarah 'scat' the lyric. Thankyou for checking my version out. X
You two are too cool! :) xoxoxoxo
