How to create depth with Fog in postproduction . Step-by-step Archviz Tutorial
In this tutorial i want to show you how you can implement fog to your architectural visualizations. Fog can create depth in your image and you can easily focus certain image elements by softening out the background. Also it looks very cool and you can create a strong atmospheric depth in no time.

Great tutorial. One thing I did think though, however, is you're adding the visible trees entirely in PS. Therefore, would it not be quicker and less heavy on resources to have a reflection plane behind the camera, rather than the 3D trees? I guess you have more control over the 3D assets, but i'd say reflections could be somewhat ambiguous, meaning a clean 'tree line' plane with some subtle distortion in the glass would be absolutely fine
Yes, reflection maps are also fine. I use them mostly both. The map (mostly I use a large cylinder around the whole scene) is nice to really close all the gaps. But I find that real 3d trees add even more realistic detail to the reflection. Especially with designs like these where the most part of the building consists of glass and the focus of the viewer is mostly on that part of the image.
@@NicolaiBecker Understood, and also accept. I enjoyed following your workslow though, as C4d > Corona > Photoshop is rare to find. It was nice to see a realistic alternative to Chaos Scatter everything, but with some nice Quixel/Megascans. (hopefully a corona plugin for this soon). I do suspect since you did this particular tutorial, that the photoshop work could be even more rough now, with something like Magnific AI upscaler doing some of the heavy lifting in realism.
(Why) Do you prefer using a rendering software for the whole process or doing it this way (render the buildings then add elements in photoshop)?
it really depends on the project. I like the more intuitive way of matte paintings. But over the time, i actually did more and more in 3D since you obviously have more control. And combined with AI tools you can also the 3d look of plants for example. But for meadows, trees etc. i still like to use 2D aka photo elements.

Hi Nicolai Ich bin Student in Architektur und ich hab dein Lernprogramm für Cinema 4d gekauft , was ich mega gut finde , aber meine Frage ist , ob du ein neues Programm vorhast , zum Beispiel was ein Rendering von städtebauliche Situation angeht , wie man zum Beispiel Gebäude integrieren kann , richtige Asphalt bei Cinema 4d bearbeiten kann mit wasser drauf. Das wäre mega mega krass von dir so ne Programm zu haben

thanks! i use LUTs regularly in corona post process. But not yet in Photoshop.

Hey Nicolai, another great video. Do you ever do your grading in something like Camera Raw Filter? I like that you can assign color tones to the different levels of the image. What are your thoughts?
Yes, sometimes I also use the camera raw filter, mostly with a low opacity on top. 👍

Hi Nicolai! i would be happy if you could once do a texture pack with photgraphs from ashphalt, pavement, street and so on. I really loved the grass textures but i dont have much ground maps. Regards

As we already exchanged on the first video, this second part is really cool to watch. I know, nowadays, we can achieve really advanced and believable 3D textures with a lot of tweaking (especially with the node system in almost well known 3D render softwares) but decal is always for me a nice final touch. I don't say its more or less believable, juste i prefer the "feeling" of them. But yeah we have to find the perfect balance for not overtune the image. To blend your decals, you use a lot of Adjustements layer like curves and so one. It's give a lot of freedom to adjust but i haven't seen you using the "blending option" (i'm not sure this is the right term because i'm using Photoshop in French) in the layer style, where you can use "sliders" in the "Blend if" area. I think it's nice option to play with, very similar but different if you had only use adjustement layers. It's perfect to blend images without modify the contrast or luminosity. It's a personnal choice ? I'm just curious about that. Anyway, great sharing once again. I know it's very time consuming to do video like this, no need to rush. I think most of viewers prefer to watch great content than clickbait video or already seen workflow / just simple "tuts"'. Thank you !
