I bought a September 1981 XJ650RJ in 1983 as a left-over. Still have it. 7,800 miles. This was a star-crossed bike. The frame was that of the cruiser version, and the brakes and suspension were bottom shelf. To compensate, Yamaha priced the bike way too high - $3,099, which is nearly $10,400 in 2024 dollars. Epic fail. With better brakes and suspension it could have been a very good motorcycle. With upgrades, it is still a nice 7/10 bike.

I have the 1995 one , love it

This was my first bike, i welded a Ducati exhaust to the exhaust manifold, replaced the camshafts and jetted the carbs. Ended up with 89hp on the rear wheel, starting with 87hp on the crankshaft. Truly loved that bike but replaced it with my current Triumph sprint ST 1050 triple, which i love even more

Ive had one of these sitting for 10 years. It is completely thrashed a lot of broken parts from the previous owner. I am swapping a liquid cooled ktm 50 engine on it. Its going to be stupid dangerous and awesome.

Not realy a chopper, just a rat bike. Choppers have extended fork lengths. I had a 1985 ZL600 like yours but in original US colors. Enjoy riding it tho !!
