My man would do well in the fastest hot cross buns contest
Incredible.
Wow...beautiful and crazy.
Holy shit!!! ❤️
Stunning!
Some of the greatest trumpet playing ever. I’ve come back to this video countless times.
Nice hearing Peter a straight ahead standard, as only he can!
always good to revisit this, gets better every time, bloody brilliant.
More to the point- sublime.
Phenomenal~~~
impresionante !!!
An incredibly impressive display of technical prowess. Not something I would prefer to listen to most of the time, but I certainly can respect his chops.
magic is freedom
Astonished at some of the ignorance in this comments section. If you think this is anything but extremely inspired, innovative beauty...Well, you're entitled to your own opinion and I wish you the best. Also fuck you.
OMG exceptional!
Sounds great! I heard Evans in a small church last night playing a Coltrane solo. The guy has super human abilities and stamina.
He is unbelieveable.
sí!!!
how is this possible
WOW !
yeah, cat should steal from ahmad jamal.
wtf does this even mean?
Quite a technical demonstration, but a lot more like dogs barking than music. All improv and no melodic lines, then what's the point?
+Rollin Shultz If you can't tell what is going on here, then you are not qualified to comment on this. This is the very highest level of harmonic and melodic interpretation on one of THE greatest standards of all time. "Quite a technical demonstration....." barely begins to cover what is happening here.
kmb1 Maybe I was a little harsh, indeed at the two minute mark the player does the melody some justice, but for the first two minutes, if you heard it and didn't already know the title, you would not know it was Body and Soul. The arpeggios should be like those of Carnival of Venice, where you always know the theme by ear during all the variations. that's what separates good arrangements from great ones. It is O.K. if you prefer technicality over melodious flow, that is your prerogative, I prefer Jazz Improv that does justice to the melody throughout. This proves you can play 8 minutes of song with not even one whole note, but why would you?
+Rollin Shultz Because that's what he feels he needs to say. And it's really original and that's something more important in jazz than sounding " good " for somebody's standard.
Lol did you go to music school mate?
I majored in music in College. I had intended to be a composer/performer, but life got in the way of my dreams. I still play trumpet off and on and though I have great regard for technical prowess, IMO it can never take precedence over melodious thematics.
spectacular rendition!
Bloody hell. Incredible.
Fascinating. I wonder how it's done...
And I wonder why is this done...
So, this is like a cover? An interpretation?
Wow, hypnotic. Amazing work, Peter!
Gonna listen to this every time I need inspiration.
AMAZING!!!! Peter you are incredible!!!!! hope you're well!
There is NOTHING cacophonous about this, in any sort......It is incredible.
Certainly is straight up, no offense taken from me, just love it.
Saw you at the Bang on a Can marathon last weekend at Pace. Riveting. Glad I brought my 7 yr old with me. He's still talking about you too.
Peter is one of the very, very, very few musicians whose dedication to his art form will come at almost any cost, even if that cost is the publicizing of the music he creates. I think the reason we don't hear trumpet players like this in our lives is because of those sacrifices. So, the question remains: what are we doing or not doing thus that, in our community, a genius like this isn't known by everyone?
No, I'm offended that this could be considered as anything else than noise pollution. He might be "expressive", but he's not expressing anything else than filth and cacophony.
Beautiful expression and acoustics that would male Louis Armstrong proud.
To all of humanity? To people with functioning ears? To every decent person?
...i have a new idol
steve reich playing trumpet
this is some of the most beautiful trumpet playing i have ever heard.
I found myself making all sort of "wow" and "that's killin'" faces while listening to this. Truly amazing! Sounds like Winton's virtuosity but with an individual voice and sound.
OOh my........tapestry, silks and fine linen, rushing rapids, waterfalls, music you can reach out and run your fingers through...ooh myyy
This stirs my soul. So good.........
How? Offensive to whom?
so great!
Peter, can't wait to see you at Chose Vale this summer! This is mesmerizing. did you use any looping in this, or is it straight up trumpet? -Jonah
as always, love your work Peter!
this is so dope this cat is the new jazz
Words cannot express how amazing this is.
this is wonderful. sound and lines are amazing
@FredCookie, is 'offensive' the new 'bad' or 'nasty'? Peter is eminently expressive IMHO, just to be clear.
Lets do an improv recording Organ and Trumpet in one of NYC cavernous churches soon brother
