C8 Stingray at Buttonwillow 1:55 Lap - KW V5 Coilover Development
มุมมอง 3477 หลายเดือนก่อน
This was the second time I had ever really driven Buttonwillow and this was during KW's track day in 2022. I had been assisting KW with their V5 C8 coil over development. The first test day (Auto Club Speedway) showed that the rear springs were too stiff. This was the second time out and with the softer rear rates, dramatically changed the car. The coil overs were good for about 1.5 seconds at ...

มุมมอง 3.4Kปีที่แล้ว
Most C8 Stingrays and Z06s have factory adjustable coil overs. While these are primarily designed for corner weighting a vehicle, they can also provide an affordable way to improve the appearance for cheap. I run you through how easy it is.
What do you have on the headlights, they look tinted?
Dude, i have an Elkhart lake blue car and I love it. But your color combo is fire.
enjoyed your video, but as a race car driver, i can assure you that the emergency braking should be left on at all times on the street. It will save your life and the life of others. It only breaks when it calculates a certain collision. Obviously, turn it off while track racing, because it would be breaking all the time, as you rely on the other drivers to have skills, not just your own skill.
All season it us good for cool weather for sure. Jump in the car and you can go fast. Summer tires are good when it is hot at the right temperature All season not so good for lunching the car.
Post-break-in review? The electric motor sounds when cruising, are they always there in every drive mode, that would drive me nuts! How much more or less engaging is the Z06 vs E-Ray during street driving?
@@Scorpio1075 I recorded one but just haven’t had the time to edit it..to busy! The E-Ray motor sound is only at very specific throttle angles and honestly you just forget about it after awhile.
Forget lowering it can I raise it? Does it have slack to raise it? I can’t even put a front lip because I scrape like crazy !!! I don’t have a front lift am I able to raise it instead??!
@@launchboy1640 yeah you could
Thank you for getting to the point and not taking 25 minutes to explain your life story and then explaining how to take it off like all the other videos.
Also, would you say the Z07 in sport mode is equal to Z06 in sport mode or Z06 in track mode? I’m trying to quantify it as I have pretty good seat time in a base Z06
@@Mizzington24 from a spring rate/ride perspective? Not sure, don’t have much experience in a non-Z07 Z06. I can tell you that my wife’s E-Ray runs about as stiff in track as my Z07 in Touring, so probably in the middle for a Z06 non- Z07
@@gearedmedia1 ok great man I appreciate the response just trying to get a gauge! That e ray must ride like a dream then!
I have a gt500 track pack and I think that the car is less enjoyable on the street because of the PS Cup2 that I have on it. I don’t think I even realize it until I drove a Z06 base with PS4S. It just hooks much quicker on the street because of operating temps. As soon as they become available I think I’m gonna switch and only do 1-2 track days per year
I switch my tires out Day One to OEM spec 4S ZP's... Otherwise IMO craZy on two fronts ~ Safety & $$$$ Have 2nd set of rims for Z07 Cup 2R's for track
The region mode is super aggressive and impressive.
I think you are the only one who shows us the EV capacity. Nice car, would really like to buy one, here in Belgium . . . much more difficult. Also need a lawyer to explain to my wife why I need this car.
@@DirkHav thank you!
Sorry, but guess I'd have to differ. You barely showed only a brief partial glimpse of the red Corvette model, but from the little I could see, it actually looks like a real model. Maybe I'm not Avant-Garde or sophisticated enough, but the Z06 model I got looks like a badly carved piece of soap, other than the fancy attempt at modern art. I was thinking I'd get a model that actually looks like a car. To be honest, I'm embarrassed to even put it on the shelf in my man cave. It'll probably end up at Goodwill. Quite the disappointment after waiting 13 months for it after taking delivery of my Z06.
Seriously.. you are simply an unhappy person. Try smiling for once.
@@LATAMbiker to each their own I guess
That lazer engraved glass model for the E-Ray is beautiful. I wonder what they'll do for the ZR1
Nice wheels. $2k each?
Roughly
Ever consider a wheel spacer to move out the rear tires just a bit?
Don’t really need it with my Forgelines
Nice Driving, looks like a great track, no cement or tire walls!!!!!
Good advice and great spec. Love those wheels on it.
Great video. Thanks for taking the time to show how things work.
How about telling us what size the tires are....DUH
There’s only one 20/21 size in existence that fit the car…the factory sizes………
Very smart to place a pool noodle over your carbon ceramic rotor that way you don’t accidentally chip it.
They come with the car when you order the ceramic brakes. Instructions included indicating you should use them every time you remove or install the wheels.
Same procedure with your Eray?
Yep!
How does the eray ride compare to a stingray? Which is smoother?
Very similar
@@gearedmedia1 nice
I have a stingray. but i would pick the Z06 over the ERay, i don't think the ERay is worth a Z06.
Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet lord!
Nice Lap. Missing the apex cones ron fellows puts out. 😅
They have Apex cones there too and genealogy follow them but cars and driving style will dictate variances.
Virtually no under or oversteer at what seems to be 9-10/10ths+ driving ! Amazing driver and what looks to be a an unbelievably fast and stable setup. Any worth notes to share from the seat of the pants ?
Thanks! She pulled 1.7g regularly and 2+ in banks. Car was very balanced and had to pull the factory belts tight (even in Comp seats) to keep myself in place.
@@gearedmedia1you’re much better than I, hat’s off!
Can't get it inspected with the cup 2s on it tho. Speaking from experience!
Do you prefer driving z06 than eray? I m on both the eray and z06 waiting list and still can't figure out which one is better to go.
Video coming soon on that! Probably next week.
@gearedmedia1 Highly looking forward to your next video. E-Ray has been out, but only a few youtubers share the opinion and daily driving experience so far. Especially the person like you who has both E-Ray and Z06. Thank you
Is it true that this only applies to a non-front lift Z06. For a front lift equipped Z06 need collars. Great video 👍
That is correct
Do you know if its completely necessary to remove the dust cover collar or can they be adjusted/turned without removing the plastic dust cover?@@gearedmedia1
@@daves5765 technically no but you really should because that’s the best way to hold the lower collar to remove the initial preload
Great commentary. My order was accepted as a ZO7 but when the allocation came in there were constraints on all carbon fiber. I could have waited for a ZO7 but I wanted the car after waiting almost two years. I was actually concerned about the Cup 2 Rs (bad in the rain, quick wear out and firm) and the 10% stiffer suspension set up. I accepted the ZO6 without the ZO7 package and no carbon ceramic brakes and have not regretted it. Not to mention saving $22k. The dealer offered to put on the high wing and front spoiler with the dive planes for cost. I wanted to wait and see if I liked the car as it was. I fell in love with it. I love the way the high wing and front spoiler look but I love the car without it as well. My car is not as radical looking and I'm a bit older shall we say and I think it's a good fit. I appreciate the milder suspension as well.
Glad you’re happy! You need to update your profile photo!
@hellcat. I ordered the Z06 with Aero. I did not order the Z07 package. I will take delivery on 7 June at the NCM. I think I made the right choice. Only time will tell. Thanks for reaching out, you reinforced my decision
@@Texas_Clayany pics of this to share with the aero on a Z06?
@@Mizzington24 i do have pics to share. How can I share? Thoughts
I have the 2024 Z06 non-Z07. It caught my attention that you mention (at the 00:26 second mark in this video) driving the 2Rs a cold as 28*F. That does not seem right as the PS4S recommends not driving below 40*F. I would think the 2R would be more cold sensitive. Is this the case? BTW, great content... Thanks for posting!
They don’t recommend because they harder and traction isn’t great but can still be driven on. Under that ~28 is when you can run into the cracking issues.
Absolutely great video. Very informative
I subbed, these videos you're putting out are super awesome and getting into really good topics. Keep it coming man!
This makes me want to go to the track right now man!
Thanks. Added this to the CF ERay section as tires come up often. I wasn't sure if you were on the CF or not, but I didn't see a video like this.
I am buying a Z06 and will deff go with the Z07 Aero. I looking into aftermarket wing (Sigala) but by the time you fly out the install team no savings. Am driving my stingray in the track mode to determine if i would enjoy the stiffer ride. That may be the deal breaker wrt getting the z07 package. Loved the vlog. Clay
Good video I have base a Z06 on the PS4s. I’m in a relatively fair weather area (Carolinas). I do plan to track just under 2K miles now, but like you said it will likely be infrequent (unless I get the track bug 😊). I have thought of getting the z7 aero - any suggestions and I will definitely get another bumper for the install. Thx
The need for aero is highly dependent on the track and driver. I would suggest driving the course first as is, and would even recommend better tires before going to aero in most circumstances
Does E Ray without front lift follow the same procedure?
Yes
I wonder how well the Cup 2s stack up with the Cup 2Rs and PS4S's in terms of wear and cold weather performance. Clearly the 2Rs are better when ignited, and the PS4S are probably the best for rain and cold, but I think regular Cup 2s might strike a decent balance between the two.
In my experience Cup 2s do not perform well in cold at all. I would say PS4S or Cup 2/2R.
Not sure on 2 vs 2R. They don't make a 2 in the C8 Z06 wheel fitment. PS4S works totally fine as a driver tire and has good grip.
Good video. My C7Z came with pilot spots. I just got cup 2’s for the rear only, as I’m hoping to cure my traction issues when I get on the gas.
If it's for road racing, I don't recommend running two different compounds. I bet you'll be running into understeer issues next
@@gearedmedia1 nah it won’t be for any type of racing, I got that out of my system. Just a little bit extra hook for when I want to hammer down on the street on occasion. The stock MPS’s are pretty bad, especially after I added a couple bolt on’s. But I wouldn’t mind them on the front as they won’t through as much rocks. Appreciate the heads up, but yes different compounds on a track is a big no no.
Can I do this with my stingray with front lift?
No, if you wanted to lower yours in the front, you will need lowering collars.
I would be interested to know in what drive mode can the AFM be deactivated? Because I have heard it can destroy this this engine.
The original AFM tech with 2 sets of lifters…for sure. Now it’s all done electronically and much better
Little confused he is talked butting gas in and mph. Thought the ev was all electric ? So sounds like part gas part electric?
Part gas and electric
Good video and very informative, I'm so happy I got my C8 Z06, with all due respect, I rather have the Stingray than this E-Ray, for a sports car, I want to hear the V8 exhaust, with this it's like dancing without music, ,maybe that's just me.
It is just you, he clearly stated it’s still in the break in period.
@@KAZ109 How about the sound, it that just me also😄
I understand that because the flat plane sounds completely different from a pushrod
Im sorry..i have z06 c8 and love that sounds of the engine. But this eray sounds boring . The z06 will have a higher demand than this eray. The electric motor transmission is not gonna be a selling point for eray for sure
I am supposed to get my Z06 allocation next month. I really want the Z07 package but don’t want the cup 2r tires. Are you saying the CUP 2R s are not good as a street tire?
It’s a great street tire as long as it’s not cold (outside or the tire is physically cold) or wet! It’s literally a street legal road race tire and they are designed to have excellent traction at sustained hot temperatures - can’t expect the same when cold. If you never plan to track the car, you don’t “need” a Z07.
Also I have a video coming this weekend specially discussing PS4S vs 2R on my Z06
@@gearedmedia1 appreciate you. I do not plan to track the Z06; and truly understand I don’t need the Z07 package. For that matter I don’t need the Z06. The C8 stingray I own is more capable of a car than I have skill I want to know how the Z06/Z07feels, i want to be able to say, “ I got the highest performance package “ i want to know first hand how CCBs handle. I turned 68 two days ago and finished radiation three weeks ago. I want one more day in the sun; driving that car! I wanted to know the cup 2r tires will be safe on a warm, sunny day Does that make sense?
@@Texas_Clay yes make sense, in that situation, enjoy your Z07. One word of advice, if you’ve never owned carbon ceramics from stock, I would recommend your “My mode” settings to be set on Brake-Track until you can break them in. They are remarkable, but scary for most before they are properly broken in. As far as ride, your Stingray Magride in track will feel similar to full soft on the Z07.
@@gearedmedia1 thank you sir! I most deff will
I wish Michelin would make the all season tire in more sizes, like for my CTS-V2, this could prove to be the “answer” for those of us who daily drive these cars and don’t want to spring for multiple sets of tires depending on weather
