Wilhelma Zoo and Botanical Garden is a zoological-botanical garden in Stuttgart that is located on the grounds of a historic castle. The Wilhelmina zoo and Botanical Garden covers an area of about 30 hectares and is home to 11,500 animals from around the world that represent 1,200 species and features around 6000 plants also from all over the world. Of Germany's zoos, Wilhelma's collection ranks second to the Berlin Zoological Garden. One of the best known departments is the accommodation of the apes. This also includes a section where young apes from all over Europe are raised if their parents were unable to do so themselves.
