I MUST say, I'm SUPER proud of the South Jones Band Of Braves, from Ellisville, Mississippi, for making it to PRELIMS in Indy! They've NEVER done that, before this year. They are MHSAA, 5A State Champs ** FIVE TIMES IN A ROW!! ** Congrats to Avon. (FYI, my SJHS Colourguard neice, was thinking Broken Arrow should have won Grand Nats!). Kaley LOVED it, and Box 5 even got this pretty young lady on camera!!! Let's do this again, next year, y'all! SOUTH will definitely be up for another attempt! Keep playing, folks! ❤

If I’d have known you were going to be at the 4A contest, I would have made a point to say thank you in person!! I’m so proud of my kids band, Pleasant Grove. Had to perform in prelims at 10:00 AM and tied for 11th! We hadn’t made the state contest in over a decade, and those kids placed higher than they have in almost 20!! I’ll keep you posted about Winterguard in the Dallas area if you want…

Rigged Nationals judging is a farce and everyone knows it. They don’t even attempt to be impartial. Home teams get 1 & 2, it’s predetermined. Your prior predictions were right, you just didn’t factor the amount of built-in home team bias. BOA needs to make grandnats a roving venue like the Superbowl. Remove the hometown bias (at least perception of bias), make Avon and Carmel fundraiser $200k and be sleep deprived for 5 days, we’d get to see more variety of bands who cant otherwise afford a trip to Indy, etc. Pipe dreams I know.

Hope to see Cedar Ridge back next week for the round of 64. By far and away the smallest band in both the BOA San Antonio and UIL 6A finals, but held their own at both competitions!

i feel like comparing previous results isnt the way to go. Some shows are more complete than others and no show is really complete until their super regional. That really impacts bands like flomo that scored the highest out of any other band in the country only to end up 5th on your list. idk it just doesn't feel right.

Will the 64 band bracket still just have 7 auto-qualifiers or will there be deeper splits? For example, Pacific --> California + the rest; Lone Star --> Houston metro + DFW metro + Austin area + San Antonio metro + the rest of Texas, etc.

I am so late to this conversation, but I got told 10th-15th in the ISSMA semi state comp were all within a point or two with eachother

This year, 4a is trying the 7 judge system I am pretty sure.

I’m afraid Hebron will come in 2nd (yes, I said it! 🤣) and Flower Mound will take the State. I’m not quite sure why you hold Vandy in such a high place. I love them, don’t get me wrong! But Hebron will take music in High School Planet Earth. Flower Mound will take visual and Marcus’ percussion can’t be “beat.” But who am I? These are just my thoughts. UiL seems to change who is in what place from prelims to finals. At Area, usually if you get 1st in prelims, you going to get 3rd or 1st alternate in finals. It has a lot to do with how tired the kids are, which they are usually pumped and temperature. It’s colder at night so there is more pitch problems. (Helpful hint to directors… just don’t have your mellows switch out to French horns in the middle of your show. The horn will be cold and French horns are known for being unforgiving. Just my opinion that I’ve seen be more correct than not.)

Is it normal for a 3a band competing against a 6a bands

BoA SA was just interesting... a huge chunk of those bands would probably make Grand Nat finals this year... As an Austin Band shill I was really sad to see some of the great Austin Bands not make finals but I didn't see prelims so not sure how that all went down outside of looking at the scorecards. After watching the finals shows I can say a few of the top bands just didn't do "it" for me. I thought the best show by far that I "felt" was The Woodlands. What an outstanding show, truly "felt" what they were laying down. Guess that's why I'm not a judge, congrats to all and best of luck at State to those that get to attend!

2:52 yeah as somebody who competed at UIL 5a area in 2023 I wish that they had this type of common sense last year we had to perform in 45° rainy weather as texan children- it was pretty much the equivalent and performing a foot of snow for us! My banddidn’t make state that year because it started raining during our performance and since most of our marches were younger They had quite a hard time during finals

In Area A Dumas high school made Area Finals for the first time in school history with 6th place. It was a crazy day of weather and we didn’t get to perform at finals unfortunately.

What’s your BOA grand natty coverage going to look like? Summary at the back end or daily recaps?

I was at 5A finals and I can say that prediction was pretty…off

my band got cooked we were consistently getting top spots in our comps and the jduges loved us then area rolls by, the 3 music judges, 1 gave us 6th, 1 gave us 10th(I think is relatively low) 1 gave us 17th💀

Unfortunately due to the weather at area I Cypress woods was demoted to second as UIL classified the preliminary round as finals (I'm from woods not happy but congrats to bridgeland anyways)

I’m 3A and we can’t advance because of Whitesboro and Holiday. 😭 We also didn’t do good at area because our band director doesn’t know how to do modern band shows. He is very good at actual marching band but modern judges don’t like a lot of marching anymore.😢 Our band would absolutely destroy all of the competition in the 90’s 💀
