Gearbox (Stanley E. Hinds) - Sacred & Profane
I don't know if anyone else remembers this particular day, or would want to admit that they were there, but I have to, this was such a classic and in light of everything, I am proud and thankful to have witnessed first hand. About 3.30 /4.pm in the afternoon i was heading to the Fairchild street bus stand, just as i passed Nelson, I saw about 4 or five people gathered in a circle, on the bridge,a few feet away from where Blind Boy stood, I am wondering in my mind what's going on, I soon discovered what the commotion was about, when I reached the bridge. It was Stanley E aka Gearbox, standing rigid like a statue, with his hands held up an gazing at some tiny object, no one could really see, in his hands, by this time the crowd had grown so big, there was no way to pass, unless you walked in the road. Gearbox like a maestro conducting his audience, as people kept leaning in to see what he was looking at, then with his signature Ahhh! He began, as we all waited with baited breath to hear his next words, goes as follow. " All my life I have seen hairs around cunt, but I have never seen so many cunts around one hair." Oh that's what he was looking at, the crowd peeled away not wanting to be counted amongst the cunts that were there, but I stopped long enough to shake his hand, after he finished off with his classic laugh. A day seared in my memory forever, Rest In Power Stanley E Hinds aka Gearbox.
They should be a national Gearbox day in Barbados.
love it...a great rendition of a classic
Love this.. very well delivered and easy to understand...
Love this one Roger.. a classic
It's good to be one of the people as a teenager to see and heard him very often. R.I.P beloved one
Roger, the Spanish said they were gone before The English came .The Portuguese and Spanish slavers, and many Indo Caribbean's who of some were CANIBALS that ate the Arawaks the first peoples of Barbados, ran off to other islands .The English brought British slaves from Cromwell's conquer of Britain and later on the Atlantic slave trade between Africa and England .Los Barbados original name was Fort St Bernard, Bimshire county of England.
What a legend i remember him as a youngest going school
HE USED TO LIVE IN MY VILLAGE, AKA GEAR BOX !!

As a Bajan this has long memories
GEEAR BOX WAS A MECHANIC FOR THE BRIDGETOWN POLICE STATION, DON'T KNOW WHY THEY CALL HIM GEAR BOX, BUT HE COULD HANDLE A CAR ,HE CHANGE GEARS LIKE HE MADE THE GEAR BOX.❤
I SAW GEAR BOX PLENTY TIME,ONE TIME IN THE FAIRCHILD ST MARKET,HE TOOK A HAIR FROM HIS HEAD, SAYING AHHHH! UNTIL MANY PEOPLE GATHERED AROUND, THEN HE SAID AHHHHH! WITH A LOT OF PEOPLE STILL GATHERED, " IN ALL MY LIFE I HAVE SEEN PLENTY HAIRS AROUND A CUNT, AHHHHH! BUT NEVER IN MY LIFE I HAVE SEEN SO MANY CUNTS AROUND 1 HAIR AHHHHH! ONE OF GEAR BOX MANY JOKES.😅😢😂
Gear box was a character within himself bloody hilarious 😂 The BRIT 😊

Eh eh...I been hangin roun Trinis for too long...lol I'm from Barbados.
Roger, I've said this to you before and will repeat it here on record. I feel you and other bajan artists missed the boat on spouge. It is not about ability because you all have an abundance of talent. It is that none of you applied that immense talent and creativity to develop spouge, bajuns authentic original music. Could you imagine the number of songs that our artists did in the seasonal climate of calypso that dried up like waters? Compare how ska, rock steady and reggae songs have been institutionalized and many of the artists are remembered, years after. It's a shame that Gabby, Red Plastic Bag, yourself and many more of our musicians only have limited, rather than international fame as Jamaicans do. They put in the effort to develop, create, produce and export reggae. They complemented this by marketing and touring. Today, reggae is so far away from spouge, no telescope could measure the distance apart. In closing, I must say that the dedication you've shown in creating these calypso videos could also have been done for spouge. Nobody had to tell Jamaicans that. They jumped on board and used reggae like it was their last shot at life. Until talent like you do it for spouge, it will never arrive on the world market.
Nice work
what a time!!
Thanks for this.
