Thank you very much!!! This is a life saver. I had forgotten this book existed. For the Archive.org transfer I'll state the correct speed
The condition of the vinyl is literally how I scramble samples 💀.
Yeah I love how it turned out
GOOFY AHH BEAT
Yes, you should still save broken 78 rpm because often it was not digitalized somewhere
Man i wish i had a copy. Would you ever condsider parting with it?
Very likely not for now, sorry, as it's one of my most valuable records (even if just symbolically), but only time will tell😁 (also shipping from Spain is one of the worst things my country has to offer and if I can't guarantee a safe arrival I will not even bother trying)
@@jonathandemiguel1458PLEASE let me know if you are ever willing to sell it! I’ve contacted loads of eBay sellers I’ve bought from who commonly deal in L&J records, none of them have had a copy of this. Also if you don’t mind me asking, how much did you pay for this copy?
@@WolfgangerI originally paid around £9 + £10 shipping, then the parcel got lost and I was refunded, when it arrived I repaid the seller as a thank you for the effort (he talked with eBay and not even they knew where the parcel was)

This song really advanced my plaque entanglements
If you have records/audio from this author feel free to contact me! I'll be glad to add them to the next revision
May I ask if you transcribed this from the original record please? In 50 years of collecting I have never seen a copy although I have the CD transfer. If you have the original would it be possible for you to post the other side which is not sung by the great Fleta but is an orchestral version of Sevillanas by Albeniz. If this is possible it would be greatly appreciated with thanks.
Sadly it is just the best transfer I found on TH-cam as I don't own the record yet, but I took the photo from the copy I saw at an antique store. It was very expensive ($30+) so when I have the budget I'll buy it
@@jonathandemiguel1458 Dear Mr. (or is it Senor?) de Miguel. Thank you for your response. I would think this record was only issued in Spain at the time of the 1928 Seville Exposition so is, as you say, understandably rare and expensive to purchase. If you are very lucky enough to come across a copy (good hunting!) it would be interesting for we HMV nerds to hear the other side - I doubt many people ever have!!. Many thanks again for your help and interest.
Thanks for restoring, it’s actually in the correct key now!
Original transfer: th-cam.com/video/Ze6hrKWSJyU/w-d-xo.html
Spanish bands used A=443 Hz pitch.
Yeah, it was weird that these records are so slow, and Berliners even more
@@jonathandemiguel1458 There are extreme cases, saw an Italian G&T 78 rpm that the correct transfert speed is 56 rpm and one Austrian 27 cm Odeon at 103 rpm
Could you please upload your copy of “Crying For The Moon” by L&J? The only transfer is Jeztick’s which is pretty noisy, the noise reduction you done on your copy of the piano medley was really good, I’d be interested to hear a “clean” version of it.
I'll try in a while, the program I used was ClickRepair and it is sadly obsolete (the only way to use it is in a 21 day trial, as the webpage to buy a license died). I will try to maximise its use on another computer for the next wave of content (you could too, it's pretty great if used carefully)
Actually, my copy is MUCH worse. In the meantime, this one is not too bad th-cam.com/video/vpJoiXf6w2A/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Mz-ry4VLcsIIsNCv
Where did you get this? And what did it sound at 78 rpm
I got it from a very dubious seller in eBay (VERY poorly shipped, I've seen coffee mugs with better shipment protection), and at 78rpm it sounds a quarter tone lower than a diatonical scale ("out of tune"), and at 80rpm the piano does sound in tune, which is expected from this instrument (pianos are usually the only way older records can be accurately reproduced)
Great record. Really relaxing.
This is probably one of my favourite L&J records in my collection, it’s so sad and expressive, it’s also one the first I ever heard a few years ago. Reminds me of a simpler time.
True, I'd say it's one of the more "honest" recordings, along with Souvenirs (Columbia 4533) or What'll do (Columbia (3510), probably the first time they tied a knot in my stomach
@@jonathandemiguel1458Yeah Souvenirs is nice too, got it a few months back, I prefer the other side Charmaine (also one of my favourites). I don’t have What’ll I Do though, I’m pretty sure it’s the second (or third) recording they made, making it literal unobtanium.
I’m making a FNaF VHS sample guide for people who haven’t discovered the samples yet, do you mind if I use a portion of this transfer as it’s the highest quality on? I’d credit you of course.
Of course, take it! I'm sure the higher quality will be appreciated
@@jonathandemiguel1458Thanks a lot!
Other than the damage at the start this is probably the best transfer on the internet.
Yeah, it is still a very bad pressing (not even close to the sound of an actual piano, microphone too far probably), but it still baffles me how bad the transfer of the LP is, specially compared to the rest of the electrically recorded ones
@@jonathandemiguel1458I have the LP and the pressing itself isn’t that good tbh. The vinyl is sharp around the edges and the play hole is too small to fit on my standard Audio Technicia. A lot of the tracks were at incorrect speeds as well, “Coquette” “Up With Lark” and others that are at the 78 speed have been transferred at 80 for some reason, also for whatever reason my copy developed a random skip at the start of the Columbia On Parade version of “Hallelujah”.
@@Wolfganger Funny thing - Coquette/Weary river ARE at 80rpm, the label is wrong. At 78rpm, the piano is out of tune (and that is usually unlikely). Columbia is very famous for completely disregarding technical aspects of their records
I will post my copy in a while, my needle broke and the only transfer I have is terrible (before I knew how to properly denoise)
@@jonathandemiguel1458How odd, didn’t think it sounded right at 78. Thanks for the info.
Literally my favourite song of all time, I’d love to find a copy of this one day. Great transfer.

Spanish Craiglist
The French pressing correct? I have a copy of this too, I think it’s the British pressing, I don’t know why but the credits are formatted differently to the more common British pressing, “American Duettists With Piano And Dulcitone” is spread across two lines like in this copy, however the font is that of the British pressing. I’ve only seen this with one other record, that being “My Ohio Home”. On Discogs there are two pressings, both released in the UK, with differently formatted credits, the same situation as what I mentioned earlier. Weird. Cool record though, would be good for a EATEOT fan album!
Yeah, for a bit of post-awareness though... True, this is the French pressing, due to the odd font and it being sent by a dubious person in France (of course in an LP mailer🙃). If I'm not mistaken there are also several Spanish pressings on Regal, but they are much rarer. Also - American and Australian imports!
There are the mention "FABRIQUE EN FRANCE" (Made in France) on label
@@misstokiI noticed blawg swarg larwg
@@jonathandemiguel1458Doubt my copy is an Australian/American import, I have one American import L&J record and it has is even more distinctive differences than a French pressing. I’ve seen Australian pressings on Discogs and they are also slightly different from British pressings. I assume mine is a pressing from a couple years later maybe? I’ve seen a later pressing of this record from around 1932 and it too is formatted differently, the catalog number specifically. It was where all catalog numbers are on the post 1929 Columbias, although there was no DB before it. Probably because Columbia only started putting DB numbers on their records in very late 1929, maybe even early 1930, and they obviously didn’t put DB before older recordings that were still in the catalog, instead they just moved the place of the catalog number. At least that’s what I’m sure of anyway.
Great record! I can still remember recording it back in 29’.
Where is Clarence Johnstone
@@Panzermanzer Oh! I couldn’t tell you! Went back to America a few years ago, haven’t seen him since!

I love this song
Very beautiful indeed. The piano is terribly recorded, but it feels very vintage and moody

This record was featured in the hit film Billoks Ballmark (1943) its so nice to hear again tysm 😭
Ah, I remember it! It revolves around a warstruck soldier called John Layton & Johnstone that composes the song and plays it, while for some reason it is related to the London bombings (this is defenetely not the plot for Dangerous Moonlight)
Offset? Wait a minute. Did you just find The Caretaker's transfer?
No his transfer came from a offset alabamy Bound LP that was really busted up.
Kinda, I found the original record, that was transfered to the Alabamy Bound LP, which Kirby used to make eaeot. It turned out to be that the Alabamy Bound LP is recorded one semitone too fast, so now every offset is fucked up (but because everything is based solely on the LP it really doesn't matter)
@@jonathandemiguel1458 ah.
I noticed that the copy of ‘Jeannine I Dream Of Lilac Time’ By Layton & Johnstone sold yesterday. It was in both our want lists, was it you who bought it? If so could you post it please? I’d be interested to hear it as it’s the only song in the piano medley which I haven’t heard yet.
I had it in my shopping cart, but I was lazy and forgot to buy it this and the reckless night master (I'm an idiot)
@@jonathandemiguel1458Me too and guess what I did! I was going to buy it the night before it sold, however I was rather tired and I decided to wait until tomorrow. When I went to buy it the next morning I’d see it had sold!
Nice transfer It being slowed down by a semitone is so amazing. The crackles give it more amazingness, in a cool lofi kinda way
