Sailing White Hawk
Australia
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 6 ม.ค. 2023
We are Sally and Trevor, a couple of West Aussies who moved to Cairns in late 2021. We previously owned a Jeanneau 32 for 2 years, and have owned a number of power boats, but would not class ourselves as experienced sailors. Late in 2022 we decided to take the plunge and bought a 2008 Lagoon 380 S2 with a view to potentially living aboard once we get to know her.
So, let's see how things go as we navigate our way through a north Queensland wet season, complete with storms and torrential rain - hopefully no cyclones!

มุมมอง 1.6K4 หลายเดือนก่อน

Episode 11 - Sailing Yamba to Moreton Bay and Tangalooma
มุมมอง 2.9K5 หลายเดือนก่อน
After spending summer at Yamba and on the beautiful Clarence River, we finally set sail for the Gold Coast to get some maintenance done before heading further north. We had an amazing snorkel on the wrecks at Tangalooma and joined the World Lagoon Escapade. Caught up with our friends Gav and Shez from Astrid the Wombat - check out their videos at: www.youtube.com/@SailingAstridTheWombat
Episode 10 - Yamba, Iluka and the Clarence River
มุมมอง 7046 หลายเดือนก่อน
After sailing overnight from Tweed Heads to Yamba, we settled into this beautiful place for the summer - well out of the cyclone zone! As well as Yamba and Iluka, we cruised up the river to Harwood, Maclean, Lawrence, Ulmarra, Brushgrove and Grafton. We enjoyed peaceful anchorages and beautiful welcoming towns, and while there we got some repairs and upgrades done to White Hawk.
Episode 9 - Our first overnight sail
มุมมอง 5109 หลายเดือนก่อน
We spend a couple of weeks in Mooloolaba, getting some work done, exoploring the Sunshine Coast hinterland and waiting for a cyclone to decide where it's heading. Then we sail to the Gold Coast, and complete our first overnight sail to Yamba. This will be our summer destination well outside the cyclone zone.
Episode 8 - Yeppoon to Mooloolaba via Great Keppel Island and the Wide Bay Bar
มุมมอง 73610 หลายเดือนก่อน
We sail from Yeppoon to Great Keppel Island where we spend a very relaxing two weeks. Then it's off to Bundaberg (after a really uncomfortable ight at Pancake Creek) and on to Hervey Bay. After a few days in the Great Sandy Straits at K'gari (Fraser Island) we cross the Wide Bay Bar and finish at Mooloolaba.

มุมมอง 1.2K11 หลายเดือนก่อน
We headed from Shaw Island to Brampton Island, then spent some time in Mackay Marina where we upgraded our solar and our dinghy. Then it was off to Middle Percy via Curlew Island which was a very pleasant surprise. After Middle Percy we spent a few rolly nights at Pearl Bay - another beautiful place we had not visited before.
Episode 6 - Whitsundays
มุมมอง 486ปีที่แล้ว
As we continue our journey south, we stop in the beautiful Whitsunday Islands. Although we have been here a number of times, the sheer beauty of this island group never gets old. Music by Bensound: Licence Code 7WJBALCIXG11MCIJ

The journey continues - Townsville to the Whitsundays. We had overnight stops at Cape Bowling Green, Cape Upstart and Cape Gloucester. Episode 3 - Upolu Cay turns on a great day, then a miserable night. That's the tropics!
มุมมอง 1702 ปีที่แล้ว
Another trip to Upolu Cay where an awesome day turned into a very wet, windy and and miserable night. It was well worth it for the snorkelling, but it would be nice to have a peaceful night for a change.
Episode 2 - Our first tropical storm at Sudbury Cay, then a visit to Green Island and Upolu Cay.
มุมมอง 1462 ปีที่แล้ว
We sailed out from Cairns to Sudbury Cay. A beautiful day turned in to a 25 - 30 knot storm during the night, and the anchorage was quite exposed. Very uncomfortable night, but we were on a mooring so not really too stressful. Next day we headed across to Green Island and spent a relaxing night on a mooring there, then off to Upolu Cay the next day for some snorkelling. We are finding the days ...

@ Thankyou x
🩸
Another great episode guys even if Trev thinks he’d rather be in an office 😂😂 ⛵️
Thanks guys, it is such a terrible life - would much rather be sitting in an office staring at four walls 🤣
@@whitehawk8112 haha yeh …
Are you public servants?
Hi Andrew, no - both recently retired small business owners.
Hey whitehawk, love this spot! Looks like you got amazing weather. Did you sail this trip? What knots per litre do you burn motoring.
Hey David, it certainly is a very special part of the world. The weather was really nice while we were there, with lots of glassy days. We didn't get a lot of good sailing weather, but certainly got the sails up whenever we could. Quite often we just put the genoa out if we're only going a short distance. We use around 2 - 2.5 litres per hour per engine. We generally only run one engine, and get around 5 - 6 knots - more or less depending on which way the current is running. So you would probably say we are getting around 2.5 nautical miles per litre of fuel.
Fantastic episode. Epic drone footage and the whales oh my goodness great episode guys!
Thanks Shez, we are loving following Astrid the Wombat too! Keep them coming 👍
@@whitehawk8112 can’t wait to be out on the water with you guys again xx
A lovely sail to the beautiful islands. Amazing underwater footage of the fish. Thanks for sharing
Thank you so much. Glad you are enjoying the videos.
Wow! Great footage! beaches, sunsets, dolphins ad whales. Looking forward to following your voyages. New follower here from Scotland 🇬🇧
Thank you so much! Welcome aboard. We are heading north along the Queensland coast. Hope you enjoy!
Will you be fishing anytime soon
We did some fishing at Fitzroy Reef, but we are not very good at it! I'll keep you posted 🤣
Loved all episodes ,I’d like to see more fishing 🎣🎣🎣
Thanks for your that, glad you are enjoying. We'd love to show more fishing but we're pretty useless at it 😂 Hoping to get out to the reef more on the way north and do a bit more fishing. Can't wait to get a nice coral trout on the BBQ.
Since we are nearly up to real time now, we were wondering if anyone has anything in particular they'd like us to include in future episodes. One of our international friends has asked for some details about instrumentation and navigation, so we will do that as a separate video. We could also do a more detailed walk-though of White Hawk, and maybe chat about our impressions from our first 12 months living aboard. Any other suggestions would be welcome.
MACLEAN, not McLean. BRUSHGROVE ! not Brushwood 😊.
Oops, that's me (Trev) - Sally is always correcting me 🤣
I fixed the description, but can't change the "McLean" in the video, sorry 🤪 Are you a local?
Fantastic episode guys! Loved Trev’s passage planning tips! And of course we love the part that we were in 😂😂
