Bose Upgrade for my Ford Explorer (Humor)
Having fun at the expense of our trade deficits and "Global Economy," I "upgrade" the sound system in my Ford Explorer from Sony to Bose.

2011+ Ford Explorer Armrest Repair
มุมมอง 93K8 ปีที่แล้ว
A common problem with 2011 Explorers is that the door panel armrest splits at the seam. This video shows how I repaired mine using waxed thread. The video is a bit long and a bit redundant so I suggest watching the first stitch and then skipping to the end to see the finished product (15:24) or the middle (12:30).
Fixed loose Pac Bay butt with Loctite 290
มุมมอง 2.2K9 ปีที่แล้ว
The key inside this Pac Bay butt was loose so that the rod was twisting in the butt. I ended up fixing it with Loctite 290. Seems like it will hold. I'll keep an eye on it and may use is for a backup.

Stuck Aftco Butt - Part 2 Success
มุมมอง 3K9 ปีที่แล้ว
Removing a stuck Aftco Butt with heat and hammer - Part 2, Success. Summary: I sprayed various penetrating oils at the seam for 3 weeks and had heated it to 200 degrees using a heat gun with no movement at all. I destroyed three 2x4 wood clamps by hammering before changing to the 4x4 shown in this video. For this final successful attempt, I heated it to 300 degrees and I think it was the heat t...
Stuck Aftco Butt - Part 1 No Joy
มุมมอง 9949 ปีที่แล้ว
Video showing steps I have take so far attempting to get a 25 year-old stuck Aftco butt to come apart. I have two of them - one came apart using the 2x4 method shown but the second one is still stuck at the moment. The one that came apart had white corrosion inside mostly at the bottom. This is part 1 - there is a part two where it finally comes apart.

AV Plate
มุมมอง 2.1K11 ปีที่แล้ว
Hi - I wanted to see what the position of my Anti Ventilation Plate was while running so I tie-wrapped a camera to a handle on the transom. It looks okay - my motors are mounted in the second hole for this 1994 Grady White 27' Sailfish
Plane-on-one test with 17" Rebel Prop on E-TEC 200HO for Grady White Sailfish
มุมมอง 8K11 ปีที่แล้ว
I replaced my Viper 19" props with Rebel 17" props and did a number of tests to compare performance. This test is a "plane on one" test where the boat gets up to ~35 mph using a single outboard running at 5100 RPM. Normal full-throttle with both engines is 5700 RPM and 49 MPH. The audio about 1 minute in is difficult is understand but what I am saying is that with a 1994 Hull/Transom and near 8...
I tried this repair myself and it turned out awesome! First I ordered thread that was real close to the original color. To get it exact I ordered some vinyl interior dye that matched the interior trim color exactly ( SEM vinyl dye). I needed it anyway to spray / repair the scratches on the glove box door. So, I dunked the thread in the vinyl dye then wiped it off. Let the thread dry for a few minutes. Threaded the needle and started to stitch away. After I was done I tucked any white/ yellow foam into the seam. Then I took a small brush and began to lay the vinyl dye into the seam. Lastly, I took some body solvent/ mineral spirits on a rag and wipe the excess vinyl dye off. The results are unbelievable! Perfect repair!
Got this problem on my 13 explorer, was wondering if this could be possible, thank you so much for posting this, while watching i started wondering if a guy could do the actual leather stitching with 2 needles, i think it's called a saddle stitch, this gives so many ideas, many thanks again
8 years later, and I have to do this to my 2015 explorer
Lol
I caught a speckled trout for the first time out with this rod. I like that it's a one piece pole and not two.
Thank you!!! I am going to try it! Very creative!
Thank you for this
Same, exact kind of problem. Damn mice! This is a perfect solution. Thanks for posting this!
Baseball Stitch it or Straight Stitch the full length of the door. Do all four doors to make it even. That's what I did and it looks great.
Where can you buy Dacron line.
Thanks for sharing, I had planned to use a vinyl patch kit...but I'll try your method. And use someone's hint to use an upholstery curved needle
Our 2015 Limited is a great vehicle but these armrests are pure garbage. Great video, I would have done it incorrect if not for this video.
Did you use 1mm thread or .5mm ?
Witch boat did you purchase that made you sale this one?
I replaced this boat with a Grady White 272 Sailfish which is a foot wider and 3 feet longer and a whole lot heavier. It is powered by twin Evinrude E-Tec 200 HOs which are great motors. There is a 3-second glimpse of it in this video starting at 3:19.
Why didn't you just put it on the big reel in the first place? Seems goofy to me.
What type of needle did you use?
Oh my goodness I did not know anyone else had this problem too! My 2013 Ford Explorer driver side stitching split around 48,000 miles too and I super glued it and it’s held until now at 98,000 miles. Thanks for your video and I’m going to try your way this time and maybe it’ll hold better.
I have a 2015 Ford Explorer Limited... Same problem! The armrest looks brand new, but the seam breaks!
My 2015 Sport has about 42K miles, always been garaged, and starting to show this design flaw already! Really bugs me that FORD designers short-changed the customers on this weak design. Thanks for the video.
hahaha imagine his reaction if after he got the butt off he broke the rod while testing it. All that work for nothing hahahah
Can i use dacron for handling trolling coz the planer I use take hug amount of drag which mono can't handle
I used gorilla glue and it’s still holding up
I’d like to remove the grips and do a pats order grip. How do I remove the foam mess?
love it
I have the same issue with my 2013 Ford explore it’s so frustrating because it’s a decently expensive car LOL I tried gluing it didn’t work only made a mess and now kind a looks ugly and then I actually did your technique a couple years ago and it helped I just wish that this problem wouldn’t happen LOL
Stupid design from Ford! Mine has the same issue. Another stupid design are how the doors close at the bottom allowing water to sit inside the door where the metal folds. 🤦♂️ I love my Explorer, but not buying another.
So you can use these heat shrink wraps on foam grips?
Hey, thanks this was a great repair. Just finished up mine, looks great and a lot less than a new door panel. I did find quite a bit of difference in the flexibility when doing it in 70 degree sun vs 60 shade. I'd recommend 70 degrees in the sun
Who's doing the repair Robin Williams or Bigfoot? Look at those furry arms!
Top!!!
I have a 2014 ford explorer and it seems like everything in it is falling apart this will be my first and last purchase of a ford
CRC freeze off super penetrant works better than what you initially used
What size thread and website to buy it
What size is the wax thread that is being used for the stitches.
Awesome repair video. Just did it and it worked perfectly.
How thick was the thread that you used? Great vid by the way.
Called upholstery thread
Great 👍👍 subscribe to Chanel goes duit thank you very much
Thanks for showing this. I’m having the same issue with my 2012 explorer.
Blue moon good
Could you imagine he was a body repair man and he did this to your car🤔 just fill the dent with bondo and paint over it. That's like sweeping the dust under the rug. I taught the rod was custom? You suppose to go all in.
how r u gonna get the reel on
Thank you for this great tutorial. Not having to replace the door panel to solve the problem saved me at least $400, and that armrest would have likely split over time also. Nobody should shy away from following your lead/tutorial and giving this repair a try. The bonus was the information on the exact needle and thread you used as the tread is a great match to the original fake plastic stitching texture and the blunt point needle makes finding the hole from the back side an easy task. The only issue I had was that it took approximately 2 months (due to delays) to receive the thread I ordered via Amazon but we were/are in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic so...
6:52 ftw
Has anybody tried this, and how has it held up?
Did I just witness a racist video 🤣🤣🤣 Assemble in America BUT parts are from Mexico and the sound system from Japan 🤣🤣🤣
Just had the same problem on my 2014 Explorer with Tan leather... thought I'd try wax string but let me check the interwebs for what others do... First result I saw was this long and behold.... Whale done sir
Would anyone happen to know the part number he mentioned for this type of wax thread on Amazon? I'm trying to order the right one. Thanks in advance
Did you find this. I couldn’t find that part on amazon.
Nice boat. I have bayliner trophy 1995 walkaround cabin.
This guy is more American then America its self wow!
This is basically what automakers do for there premium sound systems
