Hi, I’m Elaine, a passionate cyclist, cancer survivor, and outdoor enthusiast on a journey to conquer the road-one mile at a time. Join me as I share my adventures, challenges, and triumphs in cycling, from training for my first 100-mile ride to completing the Woman v Cancer 100km in May. Along the way, I’ll talk about overcoming anxiety, building body confidence, and embracing life after a cancer diagnosis. Whether you’re here for road cycling tips, plus-size fitness inspiration, or just some real-life motivation, I hope to inspire you to get out and enjoy the ride!
Bike Fit + Pinarello X3 = Heaven
In this video, I share my recent bike fit experience and how it’s helping me feel more comfortable and confident on my Pinarello X3. I’ll give you my honest thoughts on this beautiful bike and why a proper fit is so important for any cyclist, regardless of experience level.
But that’s not all-I’m also diving into an open and honest chat about body image, cycling in a plus-sized body, and how I’m navigating the balance between performance, comfort, and self-acceptance.
Whether you’re a fellow cyclist, considering a bike fit, or just here for a little inspiration, I hope this video leaves you feeling empowered to get on your bike and enjoy the ride, no matter your shape or size.

Can't beat new bike day. Glad you enjoyed the experience at Pedal Power, enjoy the miles.
Got my first road bike last month, had a look for fitters in Edinburgh but now going to go to those guys for it, looks a great shop!
Well said 👍 Enjoy the ride and see what benefits it brings.
Thanks for this. You've motivated me to get out on my bike and get fit again as soon as I'm able to. Been sitting at home for 2 weeks feeling rubbish mentally and physically after gallbladder surgery and now covid. I'd love to join you on your journey from afar (Perth, Australia). Keep pedaling and all the best to you!
Admire your commitment going right in and buying a Pinarello for your first road bike, that's a big risk for something you have not done a lot of in the past. I sincerely hope that you put the time in and reach all your fitness goals. It's hard work, I was a roady for around 25 years then gave it away and sold all my gear about 10 years ago. Started up again back in 2022 and bought a new Giant Defy, absolutely fantastic bike, ( $7800.00 Aussie dollars), had the bike fit another $400.00. Got on the first time and thought what the hell have I done! It was really hard work. Now riding upwards of 160kms per week.
Great shop and staff - I got my bike here too! 😊
Sometimes the hardest thing is to get out the door! You’re doing great. 😊
Love this! I look forward to following your journey. I also live locally to you so hope to see you out on the bike soon and if you fancy company anytime just drop me a message. 😊
What a very inspiring person you are, I’m so glad I came across your videos, you should start your own cycling club 👏👏👏👏👏👏
Good luck to you. The joy you have is obvious. Getting a shop you can build a relationship with is such a core part of cycling. I've used the same shop here in Fife (Leslie) for 25 years and have always been treated as a friend as well as a customer.
Keep up the hard work, you're an inspiration to others. Fitness will come, consistency is key💪
Looking forward to following your jorney. Keep peddling and stay safe 👏
Wow! You weren't joking! Your video of the bike shop is nearly at 7k views! Mate I'm so fricken happy for you 😊 absolutely deserve it! Loving you being so open an honest about everything, pushing the norms and uncomfortable conversations that no one talks about and folk miss out on being on bikes because they dont know where to start. Keep going marra, you're a inspiration 💜
@@northernchubbygurladventur7539 thank you so much and thanks for all the love and support you show me. You are the one that gave me a kick up the arse this year and helped me believe in myself 🥰
Enjoyed that! Really looking forward to seeing your journey on that gorgeous bike.
Thank you so much. I am glad you enjoyed that and thanks for taking the time to comment. It really does spur me on when I see comments like that.
A big well done from a mid 60's peddaler. Great cap, super colourful jacket. Keep turning those pedals my friend, the fitness will come. (awesome bike too!)
Thanks. It’s so comfortable to ride. A real game changer. Thanks for your message. 🥰
Great to c u enjoying your bike ride despite the Scottish weather as a fellow Scot it can be hard to get outside in our cold wet n windy climate keep it going look forward to your future videos 😎😎
Thank you. Yeah, it is not easy. Blowing a gale here at the moment. I am desperate to get out as I know it will make me feel better but it is so hard. I am longing for spring now.
Nice Bike Enjoy 😎😎
Thank you. 🤩
Hi Elaine Just subscribed and really enjoying the cut back honesty of your videos and following your journey. It was a year ago nearly to the day that at 63 and after 40 years off I jumped back on a bike. I was in a dark place to be honest and that was the prompt to just try something, anything….I’m really fortunate to live in the New Forest so polar opposite to you and now 3 stone lighter but way more importantly I’m in a great place now and addicted to cycling and all things cycling. Big respect to your grit Elaine and all the best for your journey, it’s going to be a blast.
Thank you for subscribing but a big thank you for sharing your story. This gives me hope. I know the feeling of being in a dark place and I also know how freeing the bike is. I am so glad you have found something that has helped. Keep pedalling. I look forward to seeing where the bike can take me both mentally and physically. I work as a nurse and I am not sure if that helps me speak quite openly. I am an open book and will always try to be as authentic as possible. Interesting that you chose the same time of year as me to make the changes.
I am looking to get into cycling. I love the bike you have. How much was it if you don’t mind me asking
If you are just getting in to it I’d but buy something cheaper to make sure you like it first. I paid £4200
Just found your channel and think you are amazing. I look forward to following your journey.
That is really kind of you. Thanks.
being a rider isn't difficult. Ask yourself if you are happier on your bike, in the beauty, than what you are at that specific moment in time, simple huh?.... stick at it though and it becomes a life changing addiction that fixes your state of mind. P.s the rides you remember most are the ones where you had no thought of distance or where you were going, your were just having an adventure, just ride
Yip. My mindset is at fault a lot. It’s work in progress I’ll say 😂
Another enjoyable video and that scenery is amazing. The bikes not bad, either 😉 I’m already looking forward to the next video 👍
Thank you so much for your support, I appreciate it so much.
Two rides in a week, awesome keep cracking on with it. Stopping for quiet time is great and a cafe stop is a necessity for me. As for doing regular hills, break it down in parts and see how you feel at a third the way up, 2/3 rods the way up.. then next ride see if you improve at this marker points. You seem in a remote area which might be bereft of cafes.
Yeah not many cafes and the ones we do have are always the top of the graded climbs in the area- there is motivation right there. Good tip on the hills. I might put the bike on the car and try some new roads and places and see if I can fit a cafe stop in.
Aren't the simple things in life that best things.
They sure are 🥰 I feel I’m lucky to realise that. So many people have not quite came to that understanding.
@elaineryrie3511 I ride off road,I buy a new bike then spend a few hundred pounds changing the bars, stem, seat post to make it feel like my bike, so it might be a good idea to do like you have and have a bike fit in the shop,
@@roberthughes8428 I’d love a gravel bike but I just don’t have the money.
Great vlog, great scenery, and a nice new bike. You have to treat yourself in life, go and enjoy spinning your legs and using your electric gears !!. Ride safely
Thanks so much. I appreciate it.
Hi Elaine, new to your channel, being originally from Insch, I'm enjoying the views of Bennachie. You are on some journey and I wish you all the best. The best bike shop in Scotland is Richard’s Cycles in Perth (IMO). Two of their employees are trained engineers and they have machine tools on the premises. They can design, make fix and fix anything when it comes to bikes! They have lathes, handmade, custom tools to do things properly; like removing stuck seatposts, a jig to properly measure spoke length etc. Not only that, their customer service is beyond compare. I have used lots of bike shops in all parts of the UK both for buying and repairs but Richard’s are the best. As Guy Martin would say: Proper!
Great to know. Thanks for sharing that.
Going through your videos and thought is it just a case of “Fit aboot getting Fit”🥴❤️👍🏴
I like the ‘Fit aboot’ you sound like my husband 😂
Do you ever do turbo rides .It’s a good way to get you ticking over . I found a big improvement doing Zone 2 and during the summer I was getting faster times on all my loops I do .Yes it can be boring ,but sit in pacer group in Zwift it does not feel as boring .And the fitter you get the more motivated you feel .
Now that’s very stones, I have been looking at turbo trainers. I’m between the zwift bike and the wahoo rollr. Any advice?
@ I have an original Tacx Neo …….Myself I have never tried rollers ,but if it did come to a choice it would be the bike .The other reason for the bike would be that you are not using your own bike on it .
@ yeah. I’m edging towards that. I’ve heard that the online platform Rouvy is good as well.
@@elaineryrie3511 I have not really used Rouvy so cannot give an opinion on it .With having a Tacx Neo I mainly used the Tacx App but I found it a lonely app and that is why I switched to Zwift for the group and pacer rides . The group and pacer rides on Zwift are good for helping you to increase your miles and it’s certainly good for the days you are time crunched or our typical Scottish weather . When I first started cycling I found I gained fitness in the summer but lost it in winter due to horrible weather (I’m from Moffat so it rains a lot ) so that was the reason I got a turbo and I am so glad I did .
@@elaineryrie3511 I have not really used Rouvy ,with me having the Neo I used the Tacx app . I found it a lonely app so I switched to Zwift . The group rides and pacer rides are good as sitting with strong riders makes you better . The thing is you get a free trial with most so you can try them to see what suits you .
All I can say is, well done!❤

You are so welcome! Thanks for watching 🥰
Where did you get your cap?
I got it online from a company called Spized. They were fab to deal with.

Google 'ride to the sun' for your first 100 miles. A less competative, friendlier ride you'll never find. It's from carlisle to edinburgh and the only rule is, get there for sunrise at 4.30. You can start when you want and go as slow or fast as you want
Spot on .
Getting out the door is the hardest part some days, stick with it!!
I absolutely agree. Thank you 🤩
👍 Bike looks great

Love your story. Remember Elaine, there are NO RULES, JUST RIDE your bike wherever and whenever you want or can. This year, a few like-minded friends and colleagues rode 100 miles around Moray for Cancer Research UK raising over £5000. We will be doing it all again in 2025 if you would like to join us. Next year I have a few rides planned, all in aid of Prostate Cancer UK. Etape Caledonia in May. In June, Orkney in a day. Arrive on the island on the first boat at 10:45 (120kms) later, and get the last boat off the island at 16:45. August, NO RULES, JUST RIDE Moray 100 and the Tour 'O' the borders in September. Keep up the GREAT work.
Fabulous lights, great company....you'll love 'em.
@@iainbeaton5524 I have only used them a few times and I am delighted already.
Great video. Really loved it. Inspiring from so many angles. Beautiful scenery even with clouds. Such quiet roads - perfect. Love the sensible 'start little' mindset and plan....... I think we all need to remember that sometimes. Love the 'coach' - mind the puddles lol! How lovely to have his support and company. Keep going...... I am looking forward to your journey. Thank you for sharing.
@@penny6658 such a lovely comment 🥰 thanks so much 🥰. I am very lucky to have a great husband. I might need to put him on filming course- he doesn’t always get my best angle 🤣
happy new bike day.i got my bike out of pedal power. great shop gteat staff.
Absolutely fantastic staff. So glad I made the journey.
All the years I’ve had a bicycle it was 170/172 cranks, hated them, too long. I even tried BioPace - nope. 3 years ago built a full carbon bike from parts (AliExpress). Bought a 2x12 groupset - aye 172 🙄. Soooo , bought a 165 crankset from eebs, TOTAL MAGIC.👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I’m glad you’ve found the perfect cranks. It really is a game changer. Building your own bike….that sounds amazing. I bought a road bike and maybe wishing I had bought a gravel now that we’ve got awful weather 🤣
@ to me gravel and road bikes are only separated by the tyre choice. Aye ,they’ll tell you fork angle and all that but unless your a racing pro they don’t really mark make a difference. IMHuO.
@ is the groupset more robust to cope with the off-road condition?
@ I do the odd right of way tracks ,but, mostly walk or carry the bike. Am happy with gset tho’.
Well done on getting out on that ride 👍 I sometimes have similar battles with myself when getting ready for a bike ride. I know I’ll feel great after the ride, but it’s tempting to just take the easy option and find an excuse not to go on the ride. It can be a battle at times but it’s one I win more times than not. PS I hate headwinds, too 😂
Beautiful scenery. More than enough motivation to get out on a ride. Your positivity is infectious, I’m also now really looking forward to 2025 😉 I like looking at ‘stats’ after rides, but try not to get too bogged down with the numbers. When I was rebuilding my fitness after illness, I was more focused on getting the miles in the legs as opposed to how fast I did them. To be honest, I’m not what you would class as a fast rider anyway, our group rides are more about enjoying the scenery with plenty of coffee stops! All the best, Paul 👍
My god, what is the the point of spending all that money on a beautiful performance bike, when you have the body of a slug 😮
Nothing like a new bike day! Those not riding 165 cranks have no idea what they are missing. I dropped to 165 around 7 year's ago and what a difference on comfort and peddling cadence/ stability. Ironic thing is the number of pro riders now dropping to 165 and will be lots more next season. Enjoy that bike 👍
@@pinnaclewd I had no idea the difference it would make. For years I have struggled with knee and thigh pain and now it is gone. I am so excited to build the miles and stamina now that I am now more comfortable. Thanks for your comment. I appreciate it.
Love your new bike 🙂 can't beat a pair of lake shoes either, theyre like slippers 😁
@@diq5386 They are the best. I was delighted when I found out about them. I now need to save for a winter boot.
@elaineryrie3511 hows about using shoe covers instead? I use those in cold weather they're cheaper than another pair of shoes 🤔
Waiting to hear what your bike fit guy recommended; great advice, bike fit first. Keep up the good works.
@@bobwilkie5721 there is no other way to buy a bike now. If you are going to spend thousands you need to make sure it is the perfect fit. More bike shops need to provide this. This weeks video is will speak about it. An absolute game changer. I appreciate your comment ❤️
I’ve just came across your channel and couldn’t believe it when I saw the roads you were cycling! I know them well! Hopefully see you on the road sometime! 👍😃
@@brianreid8000 aww, amazing. I love meeting and cycling with new folk. Please say hello if you see me out and about. You’d maybe need able to guide me to some more routes than my typical two.
Just found your videos. They’re spot on! Also, like most people have said, don’t worry about the time taken on this ride. You got the miles in and that’s what counts (with the killer headwind, I don’t think it was even that slow). 👍 I’m a proper fair weather cyclist. Hate the rain. Not a fan of the wind. If the weather’s too crap, I just do half an hour on the turbo trainer if I feel the need to keep on top of regular riding.
Such a kind comment. I love making the videos and it is a bonus if other people like them too. I definitely need to get the turbo set up for the winter now that the snow has hit and the roads are covered in grit. Can’t take the new bike out in that sadly. I definitely need to be kind to myself and trust the process.
