Bro i got an account full of original illustration and then they ban my account because "i might lie about my age" i was 21 when i open it. Couldn't get it back. So dumb too much effort for nothing

I have my first art fair next month! I'm a total noob!

I came across this because I was looking into a slightly different Etsy issue. If you have your own website and an Etsy store, you’re forced to pay for offsite ads on Etsy (if you make over a certain amount on there.) These targeted ads showing my products pop up on most social media channels and at the top of google searches for my brand name and I’m fairly certain they’re poaching customers who would otherwise end up on my website - which I also do a lot of work to promote. I’m tempted to close my Etsy shop to eliminate the problem, but also I don’t want to lose those sales. (posting from an unrelated personal account so as not to drag my actual company into this. 😂) idk - anyways, cool and thought provoking video. Thanks for posting it!

Thanks Dave. I have been back and forth on whether to create my own website to sell or just go with an established website. Your videos have helped. I still have no clue as to what choice to make, but hey I have learned something. I have a website, but haven't launched it. I have a porduct line, but haven't figured out who to do my POD. It has been kinda a mess. I do feel as i am getting closer though.

all very true and I am in the old category I guess hahaha because I still love the feel of glossy paper with pictures on anything I'm interested even though those companies sell the same information online the coffee guru is also a business consultant because he sees what others don't and that's key.

Why would I close up my shop? I've been on RB since 2017 and I've sold 4 stickers...That's $2 I would have not made if I closed my shop.

They don't have any respect for artists, I was with them around 5 years, built up around 400 followers and had just started getting some decent sales when they suspended me, I never copied or made any copyrighted artwork, I believe the suspension was because of a purge where thousands of artists were just thrown away to save on server costs.

Yep these shops pay the high ad rate esty fees and shoot themselves to the top of search. I can believe the really bad products and garbage listings I see at top of the page now

I had a red bubble account. Made some designs I was really proud of. Then I was suspended. It said something the effect of it thought I was a bot and I needed to prove my humanness. I did, no response. Oh well.

I am going to not give up and try to live through my arts. I am thanking you for being so truly sincere. So, as help to you, use one more outline on th main body of your arts. Use cross hatching to raise definition. Give left and right deeper shadow of contours. Love what you make, send it away when it falls out of sync, easily, I do. Know I loved all of your mind.

The best reason to quit them for me is they suspended my account for no reason, so the hell with them.

copyright is defs a big issue, ive seen multiple peices of my art in other peoples stores, people with 30k follower base, i reported them, AND my friends reported them too (he had their art as well) Their shop still exists, along with thousands of other peoples stolen artworks. they did nothing. and my art is still being sold on their account. which has my logo on it.

I agree with this strategy. You may be interested in looking up the concept of an MVP...Minimal Viable Product. It is big in the tech world, but can be expanded to all sorts of things including art. A lot of it is based on releasing the smallest possible product that can give value to customers. But it can also be the smallest possible project that gives you some valuable feedback on your idea.

I haven't burned down my FartBubble store yet. But, I don't upload there anymore. I had my store name in my tags, so, I could search by my name to find my stuff. But, when I do that search now I get this message: We found a person that matched "myname", but not any works. They stopped giving me traffic. I've only gotten 1 click in July on FartBubble and 12 in June. Down from 39 in May. It just sucks to delete a yr .5 worth of work. So, I'm just waiting to see if they make more changes. Maybe I will be able to get found again. It's even affecting the organic clicks I was getting. But, for now, I am still swimming to the shore.

I'm amazed at how many people come by my table at shows and say, "Is this _your_ art?" Or, "Did _you_ do this?" I don't know if people are that dilapidated, or if so many people are selling other people's art that to them it is the norm. 🤨

Clicked before I even started the video. I probably talk too much about what I was thinking while creating the artwork, not because I like talking about my thoughts etc, I hate it. I'd love to be like Leonora Carrington and refuse to talk about my work and tell people they need to work it out for themselves, but unfortunately we live in different times. I always feel if I talk in vague or very general terms that people will think I'm being cagey or aloof. I do try to engage them with keeping the focus on them. I find I'm much better at selling other people's work because you have that one degree of separation. Also, people find it validating to have someone who is not the artist validating the work. That's where having a gallerist who really believes in you is invaluable. A good gallerist, one who truly loves your work and works hard for you (and pays you on time) is worth their weight in gold.
