Leadership Examined: The short truth, some ugly myths, and how you can lead today

While the term leadership is thrown about these days as much as a home designer says they want something to pop, the reality is that it is a vital trait for thriving in today’s world. While some people want to work alone, they still rely upon vendors, customers, community, and family. It’s important to understand what leadership is, and what it is not. In this discussion, we’ll dispel some leadership myths as we define what leadership is and help you examine if you want to be a leader. Finally, we’ll talk about some of the tools of leadership and I’ll provide some resources that have worked extremely well for me.
About the presenter
Lynn Catlin, P.E., is a lecturer in Mechanical and Biomedical Engineering. He started teaching Senior Design in January 2014 and has led over 75 teams through their projects. He also teaches the Principles of HVAC elective class and is working to revive the student ASHRAE chapter here on campus. Prior to Boise State, he spent 20 years in the Semiconductor Equipment and CAD/CAE industries, traveling both domestically and internationally up to 70% of the time. As he is completing his MBA in May 2020, his focus has shifted from engineering design to leadership to enable group success.
