Can you share link to power film?
Santa is bringing me one 😂
Yes mine came with the stand
At 1:13, you said the attraction is the antenna comes with a mast/stand. Does it come with a mast or stand? I don't see that in the description on the Chelegance website.
If you an a ground wire to ground and you will get better swr if you do
Yes I feel the ground spike is enough to provide that ground and then use the standard radials on the ground. Its a compromise antenna so really I just want to get it up fast and make those contacts fast. I have made some great contacts with it
Its super quiet and a great piece of kit and its MPPT
I continue to love this antenna and I have no issues with it and it really helps me pull in some DX. Today I worked VK9DX Norfolk Islands and a VK4 from the park and so so so happy I deployed the BuddiHex and not the vertical. It took me 25 minutes to get it up with some sand bags on the tripod. 50 watts with my Yaesu FT-891 and my PowerFilm solar panels to keep the battery charged up
thanks for this multi-part series on the buddihex system. so, it's been a year since you posted these... are you happy with it... as in VERY happy with it? or, are you just so-so, meh, ok happy with it? i am looking closely at getting the antenna and mast combo, but DANG...trying to justify it. thanks again.
the bottom aluminum poles, do they have a silver ball locking mechanism?
No its a plastic corner. The frame is fixed and does not collapse
Where did you get those sandbags?
Is being closer to the antenna than 10 ft a problem?
yeah if running very high power but at 100 watts the min. is 1.5 ft. I dont operate beside my antenna like that
I suppose these guys would be interested in buying my pair of KY-57’s.
Hi! I'm new to the whole CB thing. I have this same antenna. How do you set this up for CB frequency? I know there is a coil attachment not being used? Seems like you have the slider all the way closed. I have an SWR meter but no Antenna Analyzer. My antenna stud is mounted on my vehicle. Thanks in advance :)
yes the slider is towards the bottom and make sure the stud is grounded very well to the body
Where did you see that it was an MPPT charger? I heard it was PWM.
That's a bonus and Zi didn't bother opening it up.
I didn't do one yet but i will
Love your videos!! Did I miss actual working video? Maybe a WSPR map to see how it gets out?
Great info on the antenna - looking hard at it now. What case are you using for the telescopic mast please? Thanks!
I love the Hexbeam, looks like she is floppy around a bit in the wind.
@@outnaboot anything up that high does offer wind load but it handled wind and rain during the field day weekend with no worries
Nice! Hope all is well. Good to see your back 👍you’re becoming a Super TH-camr
What sweet little Setup. I am sure this is going to produce a great sounding Signal 💯👍
its been working out very well. fast set up, no balun to introduce losses and the dipole provides maximum signal transfer, easy band changes makes portable operations more fun
Tinfoil has many uses beyond the BBQ..!!! Don't forget to read the manual first 😂
manual suggests to have shiny side down for maximum signal transfer
Hi, great video series about this awesome antenna, I got one myself a couple of weeks ago (including the tripod) and it was never so easy to set up a well working antenna while on the field. But: there IS a 1:1 balun housed in the center piece of the antenna, which makes sense regarding you feed a symmetrical antenna with an unsymmetrical coax cable. Just wanted to point this out, as you said in the video description that there aren't any lossy baluns involved. Keep up the good work and have fun on the bands! 73 Sebastian DL2KSE
hmmm OK maybe as a choke but then a 9:1 balun is lossier from what I am seeing, but maybe I meant coils or maybe I need to open it up. It works great
@@VE3IPS right, it's basically just a common mode choke so there won't be any RF on the cable shield. It also makes the radiation pattern symmetrical, a dipole that's fed directly with coax cable tends to have a slightly slanted pattern due to the direct transition from unsymmetrical coax to symmetrical antenne. Usually no considerable losses involved here. The antenna works great indeed, already looking forward to this weekend's portable operation. 73!
Playing radio in the park, looks like a beautiful day for it.... Nice antenna setup, no need for coils...I have that stand too, she's a beast.... tgl
yeah TGL its very rugged. i can hang my Dynalite strobes off it to for studio work or even hold up a utility light.
I came from the packtenna email group.ae4xo
Great technical information on the antenna. Cannot wait to see the review videos.
keeping tuning in
wow 😊
Make sure to look in the user guide because the number of radials needed isn't always 4 on all band.
I added another 4 to my load out.
If running 20w or less, how close can I mount this to where I am sitting? Corner of picnic table that I am seated at? I just got the black mcc and was interested in the 12ft w/ choke for starting pota.
@@christianknight2905 there should be no concerns unless maybe 1 ft away at low power using SSB
I ate Ramen noodles to be able to buy all their stuff almost....TRSB is a must
Yes if you use a tuner it will do 11m. I will try it next time I use this antenna but based on my experience it will be a nice setup but a Moxon may be useful as well
I just got back from a Northern Ontario cabin with 8 antennas and 2 batteries and only my Icom 705
I have been doing strictly portable ops for 20 years and my go to antennas are from Buddipole.
please dont tell my wife I have various buddipole bags full of stuff
Thanks for showing us the travel setup! Hope you’re having a great trip

Rubber feet protect the car rooftop
Hi I am new to antennas I would like to know if you could give me your honest opinion on this antenna for Cb covering 10,11,12 meter bands would this work ok I have a small campervan so I think this would do nicely to transmitting and receiving when parked up thanks in advance.
Yes I made contacts with it in spain using a CB walky talky.
The tripod is part of the ground. I believe no rubber feet is intentional. It’s not like the aluminum will rust from the dirt.
John, I did not know you had a TH-cam channel, until you pop up on my video feed, Grant VE3XTV.
Great walk through John!
And it is still available. I had never heard of it until this video.
They have a newer model that covers 6m
Have a great time! Good Luck!
Now that's a sneaky little Antenna Analyzer 👍
They've tidied up since I was there.
Universal , Fair Radio and now MFJ gone
Swr is fine with great bandwidth but the tilting is for NVIS use where you need a high radiation angle.
Works great for NVIS when tilted
7 ft 20m wire.
