Is it possible to switch to ZFS without losing data?

Do you mean that you can transfer the Operating System from USB to HDD?

Any issues with SSD in Parity? Unraid recommends not running SSDs in Parity because of the TRIM issue. I have read that people just add the SSDs to a ZFS Pool instead. And another user mentioned that as long as you just write once and leave your large files in place, it shouldn't matter too much. Kind of on the fence on how I want to setup my N1.

I'm not sure what I think about the new pricing model. What about us with the old licenses, we have to pay up to get new releases of Unraid? I have a Pro license, I can't find any mentions of what happens to my license. If it is the case that I have to buy another license to get new versions of Unraid, then it's a shitty move. This was not a thing when I bought my license.

I was really considering Unraid because it has a lot to offer. However, I’ve decided to go back to TrueNAS Scale, despite the hassle of migrating. I'm not against paying for software; I gladly do it. But during my 2-month trial, I only saw one minor update to version 6.12. With the new subscription model offering "one year of support and updates," I expected more frequent updates. The release of Unraid 7 doesn’t count for me yet since it’s still in beta, and most of the focus is on it. Update frequency might improve after the final release of Unraid 7. Still, with just a one-year support window and the current slow update pace, it doesn’t feel like great value at the moment. If the discount had come in July, I might have reconsidered. But for now, it’s a bit too late for me. I’ll keep an eye on Unraid’s development and might change my mind once Unraid 7 is fully released and if the development pace picks up.

Since i Changed from standrard Array to a ZFS Pool - Mover isnt working.... Problem for me, Drives doesnt like to sleep... Also why should i change from Pro License to annual License for 9 for Bugs - I dont see any Prophit for me, without 9 Bugs spended... -> To be honest this will be one Coffe - to one of Ya? I love unraid and have been a paying customer since 2018. when I heard unraid was going to subscription based pricing, I bought 10 basic licenses for future "what if" scenarios. Locking in lifetime license for 6 device builds seemed like a good idea.

Unraid 7 full release when?

Now that the main array is optional, does this allow mover to move directly from a pool to another pool?

Happy to use Unraid and see this VM snapshot feature. ZFS and the other shenanigans I do not really understand (asside from nerding out about its technical novelty) what features it brings me. I started using Unraid so i would have a KISS server.

No discount on the lifetime license is disappointing - was waiting to pull the trigger today. At $249 it's way too expensive for a second server with just a few drives in it and, seriously, who hasn't had enough of subscriptions by now!?

my god have i been hoping for some of these for some time! I only have a few drives so caching is such a game changer since some of my steam library is stored on my array. On top of that i'm also super hyped for the new VM improvements, since this is how i'm running my gaming pc!

About to purchase Unraid. Will there be a license option for us who only want the storage part of Unraid, not VM or ARC support?

Snapshots for VMs?! Hell yes! Does the filesystem the vdisk resides on matter? Is this like a ZFS snapshot or just a VM snapshot like ESX would do to any disk designated? I can see myself using this stuff and playing with it for sure but probably in another chassis than my primary. :)

I love my Epyc setup- three Tesla P4s and three LSI 16e cards and six NVME drives all working smoothly together. Went from a decent 12900K build to a used Epyc 7402 just for the PCIe options and it’s been very stable and performant.

Please god tell me that the improved dashboard will be responsive soon!! We've been dying for that functionality, because it's no longer 2006 and people use devices of many sizes. It's practically unusable on a mobile device--takes good eyes and VERY careful fingers.

A bit of a sad development actually. I don’t understand why people choose Unraid to use ZFS or virtualisation. Other solutions already does this. Unraid could focus on the things others don’t do.

Before i could use same gpu for docker container and VM , when i used to start VM tye gpu used to get psssthrough to VM and when VM shutdown gpu back to containers , but now i have to manually do bind vfio at boot to psssthrough gpu to VM than unbind reboot again to use in docker container ..😢

Well, only live migration is now keeping me away from using this full time instead of Proxmox. Why not add that in? I mean, command line wise it’s rather easy, and the infrastructure is already there, so why not make some section in Settings where you configure some other server’s IP and if that’s available, have the VM go there. Also, a checkbox to have VMs migrate there when shutting down the host and that’s it, this is way friendlier and faster to get going and more versatile than Proxmox for me, especially with the advanced VM options now, snapshot support in the GUI and so on. I just need this basic high availability support and that’s it.

Wish Unraid would consider a Debian based OS base like Ubuntu Server. Better ZFS support and newer Linux kernels and packages would mean better power consumption, better cpu scheduling. Better security.

does someone know more on vm snapshots ? is it at the vdisk level (qcow2) or the underlying file system ? Can we export snapshot to backup the vm ?

Raid Z is a good start but totally bad to use. Why would i add a brand new HDD to have safety but at the same time have my HDD running empty. It’s getting hours for no reason which can give me a fault safety HDD. U gotta rethink this concept.

Great improvements, can't wait for Unraid 7! The option to migrate VMs is actually really beneficial for those running 24/7 services like a mail server. Live migration between two Unraid servers would be fantastic. I might even consider migrating my Proxmox cluster to Unraid if there were an option like "Automatically migrate VMs on server shutdown/reboot. Keep up the good work ❤

Loving the new VM changes. I also think ill stick with normal unraid array with double parity backup running a single zfs disk to make snapshots of all my SSD's. Being able to use random capacity drives is key for me. I just need to finally figure out how to get GPU passthrough working for a windows VM and I can finally start playing some of my games again. Its a total S-show with outdated tutorials from various sources lol. Im stuck with virtual GPU :(

Glad to see that arrays are optional! My main setup is 8x22TB hard drives in a RAID 10 pool, so no longer needing a single drive to maintain an array is great! Also appreciate being able to have two pools used for primary and secondary storage and Mover can work between them.

What would happen with full ssds in terms of unRaid write speed? will it go higher than 30mg/s that usual for writing to a hdd array (without a cache)

I was just thinking i haven't heard of anything interesting lately from unraid. Then, this is possibly the most interesting release in a while.
