Never watched your vlogs until now. Very interesting reading the comments. Based on what you said : BMW X5 40d 7 seater. Pulls anything on the market. As do others. Best Car IMO.
The bmw is certainly one to shortlist. Cracking cars... Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment

@@everythinganytimeanywhere hi thanks for the offer but I'm just having abit of fun and learning as I go, I don't wish to be a pro at this I just want to interact with like minded people who enjoy the things I do. Thanks anyway
@@TouringWithRivayour pleasure 😊. Enjoy your life man 🤠.
@everythinganytimeanywhere you too buddy
I’m a ex HGV tanker driver for a well known tanker company, you must do what is right not what your opinion says, you dont pass your HGV /LGV driving test on opinion you pass it on safety and capability on the day, and what’s right on the day is vital, a mandatory towing test should be provided when purchasing a caravan , however your so right about the breakaway cables it’s about time we all get this advice as standard, Free of charge of course) safety shouldn’t cost !!, towing can be fun but HGV drivers and especially coach drivers can make it so dangerous for the novice when they speed past at high overtaking speed. I can go on about this for ever and ever, we all enjoy the holiday box so let’s get behind them, holiday boxes are great fun let’s all get one 👌👍
@@robthompson819 they are great mate that's why we have one.. I drive hgv for a living and it surprises me some of the car and caravan combos I see on the road, sadly getting rid of the test has left a huge hole on training and understanding when it comes to towing.
Me, the wife and my son went to this. With our Transit Custom LWB being converted into a Campervan over the next month it was great to go somewhere local to see what's out there. We want to get one of the lean to awnings so it was cool to see those.
@@DriveWithAndy amazing Andy, make sure you go to to the NEC Next month mate
@TouringWithRiva we went last year when we knew our plans for a campervan 😊👌👍
@@DriveWithAndy I look forward to seeing it Andy
@@TouringWithRiva we can not wait. IL watch some of your videos 😁👌 so are you local to Manchester?
@DriveWithAndy about an hour away from Manchester, my VIDOES are very basic at the minute, still trying to find my feet with youtube.
good reminder about the 7 pin cable i connected to plug looked fine , then a 100 mile later arriving on site with no lights or indicators ,i only found this out as i went to unhitch and could see the cable had lost its outer sheath along the bottom edge and damaged some of the wires, how i thought ,it still had 4-5 inches of ground clearance, it was at this point i gained some experience, with the car loaded with 5 passengers the rear of the car dropped so now its not got the same clearance ,then factor in the roads undulations creating bounce on the rear it meant the cable kept contacting the ground hence the problem, on a longer trip it would have probably gone right through, so its all good advice thanks ,
Thanks for your feedback Roy
Use the motor mover if you have one people, if not get a decent banks person, my mate has a prosthetic leg and does just fine, so listen people and take good advise if it suits lol, I’ve done this for 25yrs and still get palpitations every time I hitch up 👍👍
Not all have motor movers, we don't, I think we all have worries hitching up when we are alone, the camera of the van has solved the stress to be honest.
I’m glad someone is ‘shouting’ about not wrapping breakaway cable around detachable towbar. So many do it as easier/don’t know. Thanks
I've seen it so many times and it blows my mind why you would think it's a good idea... Thanks for the feedback
Not all tow bar assemblies have a dedicated attachment point for a breakaway cable, how it should be attached depends on whether you have a fixed or detachable tow bar and also whether you have a carabiner or the older spring clip on the cable If you have a detachable tow bar assembly which doesn't have a dedicated point for the breakaway cable then wrapping it around the neck is correct I will however agree that it's not ideal and there's a high chance the system won't apply the brakes in the event of a detachment which is why I personally would only choose a tow bar assembly with a dedicated point Caravan Guard did a excellent video on the different types of breakaway cables and how they should be attached to different types of assemblies, that's well worth a watch th-cam.com/video/e2IcPIihreI/w-d-xo.htmlsi=V6vmIC74bFFV4VuJ
@@TouringWithRiva I'm very much aware of the laws being a DVSA approved instructor that taught B+E before the test was removed The law states that towbars sold and fitted in the UK must be EC Type approved and in order to get the approval today, yes it must have a dedicated point for the breakaway cable which legally yes you must use where fitted However it wasn't always a requirement, you'll find legal towbar assemblies as little as 3 years old without a dedicated point but will still have the EC type approval as they met the requirements at the time which didn't require a fixed point If someone has one of these towbars then they are legally told to loop the cable around the neck of the towbar, if they was to modify the assembly then they could be opening themselves up to all sorts of lawsuits should the worse happen If you care to watch the youtube video I recommended you'll also see its not just a clueless no body giving the breakdown on breakaway cables, its a industry safety professional that works with all the UK road safety departments
Dealers, I feel they have lost their way you are the customer treat them fairly and honestly 🤦🏻
I totally agree Steve, sadly it's all about the figures now, they dont even respect a cash buyer because they want commission off the finance.
I know what you’re saying. We recently bought a new car it wasn’t the best experience😟
Tragic isn't it Steve, it should be that way, it should be a great experience given the money you're spending, I've got to the stage I don't actually enjoy buying new cars now.
Made the right choice there mate honestly loads more out there just finding the right one and moving on it asap when you do 😊
I think I've found one now
@ keeping it a secret this time then just reveal it means u have made the right choice ☺️
@wanderwiththebevans I'll put a video together when I go and get it mate but I have considered all options this time
@ I bet what ever you have picked it class I mean you have roughly same taste as us so I will like it 😂
Hi. After 30 years of owning driving the Land Rover brand, I moved away due to high insurance and reliability. I did have a big list for my next car, and I ended up with the Mazda Cx60 3.3 diesel...it's not been without its issue, which were quickly sorted, but I'm glad I changed It's powerful, and it's brilliant on mpg.
@@peteandmaggie8570 hi Peter, I've never even thought about mazda, what is the towing capacity
2.5 tons towing capacity, and it's between 10 to 15 mpg better than my previous car when towing.
@peteandmaggie8570 see that's the thing I want 3.5ton tow capacity because the caravan is so long I'm lead to believe anything over 7meters you have to have a vehicle with 3.5t towing capacity.
Good decision, plenty more cars out there 👍
Feel abit sad about it but you're right. I'll find another I'm sure
I bet you went for the Rexton..... I knew you would 🤣 7 seats, 4x4 3.5 towing rating. 😂🤣
Never say never I'm still undecided, you're convincing me it's the motor to have 😂
@TouringWithRiva no harm in taking a look, I have the Ssangyong Korando 180bhp 2.2se 400nm torque. Only 2 wheel drive. It's an 18 plate, had it from new, past every MOT so far. But it's the same with every car, you can always buy a dud. I definitely like the XC60 or the XC90 Volvo. But they hold there price second hand.... Hope you find what you're looking for 👍🏻
good decision Oliver ,you'd kick yourself if you bought it and it had problem,
Yeah that's what rung in my head, I thought how am I going to feel when this car goes wrong
I tow my caravan with a D300 Defender 110 23 plate. Fabulous tow car. However sounds like that Discovery has been traded in due to a problem so walk away from it. Plenty more out there.
@@gt8578 I agree, see my next video which I've just posted 👍, I wish I could afford the defender, great cars
I'd definitely Walk (running for the hills eg Toyota landcruiser may be sound opposite option) before anyone says it but you got a volvo xc70 d5 yes I love it 200k 2011auto does everything well for me and my needs but a landcruiser is that bit more to me I don't not dislike land-rover at all but that particular one smells of a bag lemons don't have to like my opinion either each to their own 😊😊not all land-rover are bad either some good ones made it out the factory 😇👀
@@richroadin I appreciate your comments here rich thanks
Personally I wouldn't get that car, new turbo 900 miles ago and it's now for sale....and coolant light being on you would think they would have topped it up before. I'm a mechanic for VW and for what you are wanting you can't go wrong with a Touareg or maybe even Amarok they are both brilliant for towing. Have you considered getting a truck? I have a Amarok as my tow car and I love it! Good luck with what ever you decide to do though 😊👍🏻
Thanks mark, it's had full dealer service history, on paper it's a good car, the dealership selling it are reputable having won a fair few awards, you'll see on my next video what I'm going to do. I like the vw amarok but I don't want to pay commercial insurance anymore, my transit is on commercial and it's expensive for what it is, I can't wait to get out of the transit 😂
Walk away buddy plenty more about. Could be the start of something. Most warranties when it's land rover aren't worth anything. I would steer clear of land rover too many issues and expensive service and parts
your comments echo everyone else, you could be right thanks for sharing your thoughts, lets see what happens in the next video
Crystal clear after 😎
Looks great 👍🏼 what polish did you use?
@@Anne-MarieWatkins-bt7xf a cutting compound from Autobrite Direct followed by vuplex cleaner, be careful not to burn the window, don't let heat build up keep moving the polisher 👍
Keep it. There WILL be a time that you'd use it.
We agree
Nice job 👌🏼
Needed doing for a long time mate, sit in the caravan it was like looking through a spiders Web on a frosty morning
I bought a 71 plate Discovery with the D300 engine. Absolutely brilliant car, tows my Swift Elegance like it wasn't there! What I would say though is if you have any alarm bells ringing, walk away - there's lots of them out there. Just do your due diligence first. I love Land Rovers - had a Freelander 2 for 16 trouble free years - so I know how you feel, but head needs to rule heart.
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience Peter, it's valued and I appreciate it, you seem similar to me, once a land rover fan it's really really hard to kick the habit!! Even if they do give you issues. I'm glad you liked your disco I agree nothing tows like a land rover ❤
Hi, we upgraded our car nearly 2 years ago and was stuck between the Discovery 5, Audi Q7 and Volvo XC90. We went with the 2020 Q7 Black Edition so would be a similar year to the Disco you are looking at, might be worth a look at the Q7 too as it a 3 litre diesel, air suspension, 7 seats and 3.5t towing capacity 👍🏼 When we bought ours we didn’t have a caravan but it came with the electric deployable tow bar which is so worth the money! But we picked our caravan up last feb (Bailey Unicorn Segovia) and it tows the 1800 mtplm a dream! Only downside is MPG with the caravan on the back is around 20 but who cares when you’re on holiday 🤙🏼 without the caravan you can get high 40’s on a run though. I would say the boot space is less than the disco though as it’s a more sleek design but that hasn’t ever bothered us even with 2 kids and all the gear they come with! It’s been a faultless car in the time we’ve had it and we’ve added nearly 20k miles onto it, the only issue we’ve had was the alternator recently gave up but it was covered by Audi for 7 years so all changed under manufactures warranty along with a courtesy car so we can’t complain, anyway hope this helps and hope you find the right new car!
Hi, thanks for taking the time to add such a valuable opinion, I hadn't considered the q7, I agree they are great cars, as for the fuel I think we can all forget about figures because they all seem to be doing around the same 20mpg mark, your audi sounds like it's been a good investment and I'm glad the hear you're now Caravanning, enjoy it and thanks for the feedback I'll take a look at used audi prices
stunning cars and amazing tow vehicle but they don't have the reputation for no reason, I'm of course biased but if you don't need 7 seats I'd recommend the VW Touareg, a lot of motor for the money, 3ltr with a 3.5t towing capacity, I'd just recommend finding one with air suspension, a rare option unless you get a black edition which has it as standard
Been looking at those tonight, the problem I have is my head won't allow me to divert away from the landrover brand.. The vw is a really good option and one im looking into actively, thank you for taking the time to give your feedback
Hi I would walk away something ringing my alarm bell
Totally agree Paul, thank you for taking the time to comment
I have a Discovery Sport and got my fingers burnt with a Warranty Wise Warranty. I swapped to a Land Rover Warranty. I suppose in short I would say if it's not a Land Rover Warranty walk away.
@@markmason7959 funnily enough I think it is a warranty wise warranty 😂
@@TouringWithRivaAll I would say with Warranty Wise is buyer beware! If you can get a Land Rover Warranty. There is an inspection fee (was £200) before they take it on and a monthly fee (mine is £85)
Have you looked at the Ssangyong Rexton? 3.5 towing rating, and lots of toys.... Keep up the good work 👍🏻
@@gooney71 I have my only issue is resale value. I think I'm going to make a decision tonight and go from there. Await the next upload 👍 thanks for taking the time to comment
It looks a beauty pal, but I think I'd keep looking, try Oakdene Cars at Alfreton he has some right beauties, happy searching,🙂
Walk right away, fast. Hyundai Santa Fe or Kia Sorrento.
@@simonworsley8551 the general opinion here is to leave the car, I think I may do that. Look out for the next video for an update thanks Simon
I would walk away and find a better one. Also if salesmen say yes the warranty covers this, that and everything else ask for it in writing as they always find a loop hole somewhere. They can make you pay for a warranty, only recommend. I won’t buy one I have been bitten in the past.
@@elainegough1038 I think you're speaking wise words Elaine, look out for the next video for the outcome to this quandary
Hi congrats on 500 subscribers with regards to the disco I highly recommend buying one we bought ours a year and half ago but I’m assuming the one your looking at isn’t from a Landrover dealer we brought ours from Synter it is a 68 plate hse Luxury and was just short of 40000 miles and we had a few issues but I have to say Synter we’re very good and sorted everything out and gave us a replacement car (a brand new defender) to use while they took the necessary time to sort our car to our satisfaction the we have a Bailey unicorn Cabrera at 1600kg the car pulls it with absolutely no effort whatsoever and although fuel economy is a little on the high side in general but we hardly notice the difference when towing and as for space inside the car we just couldn’t be happier so if I were in your shoes if i am correct in saying that the car your interested in isn’t from a Landrover dealer I would consider not buying that one but look at Landrover dealers as you seem to get a proper warranty all be it only a year but you can extend it as we’ve done it is expensive but at least you have peace of mind I hope this helps and good luck
@@Peter-v9c9f thank you for this, my last land rover was from land rover and that had warranty, this one does too have warranty but I've had to pay for the three years, I want the car but I don't want the drama, it's a really really tough one, I know if I go and buy a vw I won't truly be happy because I will see discos and think that should be me I just don't want the drama. Thanks for your comment it's insightful, I wish you happy Caravanning with your disco 😎
Avoid it like the plague. An overnight run by the manager will not give an accurate condition of the coolant level. Don’t let them con you!!
Julie I thought exactly the same, little 20 mile run they have given it, that won't tell me anything, slap a caravan behind it and put it under some load let's see what happens then, seems they want me to have the warranty so they can wash their hands of it once I sign for it, you'll see what I'm going to do In the next video Julie., be sure to subscribe
I think deep down you do know, I’m sure they’ll be others. But not good if it’s already showing problems, We’ve just bought a Discovery Sport ourselves but would’ve walked away if something was suss Congratulations on your 500 subs it’s lovely to see more caravan vloggers out there 😊

Please please please pull the plug on the LR thats the one we had before the RR sport it was in the garage 17 times in 12 months! We rejected it back and lost a lot of money on it
@@wanderwiththebevans well they still haven't called me which I think is shocking.. Im going to walk away I think.

Walk away from the deal
@@jasogolledge4929 you could be right Jason, I'd hate to go ahead and have egg on my face here with everyone saying a similar thing to leave the car where it is
@TouringWithRiva My feeling if it doesn't feel right walk away there are plenty more about but stay away from the 2ltr engines there pants
@jasogolledge4929 I wouldn't go near the 2 litre when towing, this one is the 3 litre diesel but on today's advice I doubt I'll be having it
Congratulations on your subscribers! 🎉 We had a Land Rover for nearly 10 years and never thought we’d not have a Land Rover but last year we swapped to a R Line VW Touareg and have to say we’re really impressed with it and you get a lot for your money. Huge congrats on getting to 500 subs pal. As per the car - just walk away. The market is full of good vehicles at the moment - find another one. 👍
@@TheTrudgians thanks Dan, I think you're right, I'm waiting for the dealership to call me today, finding another one might be the right choice given what we know about this one. I'd still go for land rover because I'm a fan and always will be

@@fly901 i hear what you're saying, I can't argue on that basis I don't even own this one yet and it's making me nervous
Congratulations on the subs and watched hours 🎉 Keep up the good work and loving the content! Me personally would probably avoid that one as it wouldn't sit right, With Land Rover having that stigma on reliability issues sounds like the car is a bit of a lemon and you'll buying a can of worms, A vehicle like that needs to have no warning light and full service history with belts etc, I would highly recommend looking at the Volvos as I was in a similar position and ended up with a XC90, Good luck with the search
@@madbikez5 see you're making me think now! Should I go volvo, how do you find the power? I wanted the land rover because it's 3 litre
Been looking at tow vehicles, probably go phev as we also have a tesla so 50 miles day to day would be great. Xc90 or the merc gle would be good it's diesel phev.
@@paulhilling6208 did look at phev, however we had a range rover evoque and that was phev, it didn't quite do the range stated by land rover, also it was very expensive to charge at home albeit we only had the three pin house plug which I know costs more to charge on. I also like the volvo xc90 but don't like how the value depreciates on them, land rover and BMW seem to hold their money aswell as Mercedes
@TouringWithRiva yeah u need an ev tarrif to benefit really 7pkw overnight for the house as well. We charge our home battery at the same time and run the house on cheap rate for the day

@paulhilling6208 I can imagine it's quite addictive Paul 😂
Hi. Congratulations on your subs. I've been caravaning for years. In all that time . I've towed with a van like you. It's a renault trafic sport with an coachman acadia xtra. Not everyone's cut of tea. But it works for me,I live in Scotland and use it all season. And in all that time I have never been stuck or bogged down. I can accommodate 6 people all my gear bikes dog etc. And still get great mileage with it. Personally it's up to you . Wether you go for luxury or reliability. It's just your luck with motors as you probably know. Some good some bad. But good luck. And I'm sure you will make the right decision. Keep up the great with videos really enjoy them.
Hi Ian, great to hear youre our there enjoying Caravanning like us and you tow with a van, I really don't know what to do, the van is deal for all our kit and bikes etc but it just can't tow the caravan in a field, I do alot of work at events throughout the year so need the offroad ability Ive got to make a decision on this land rover today and I'm still very much unsure what to do, part of me Is like go for it and the other part is like no this is stupid it's already causing you stress 😂😂 I don't even own it yet
go with your gut. I think you already know the answer
I hear what you're saying, I just don't want to let the car go because it's perfect, I can't decide if I will regret buying it and it breaking down or not buying it and never knowing!
@TouringWithRiva yeah totally understand.
@@mrtommyP80 as it stands I've still mot decided what to do, I've not heard back off the dealership to hear if the car lost water whilst the manager took it home.

I have done but I'm not a bmw fan, don't know why I just love land rover
Congratulations on hitting 500!! 🎉 We’ve just bought a discovery, beautiful cars.. we pick it up this week. We did a lot of research into the engines because of this. Hubby knows more but it’s the newer 2L they seem to be having trouble with.
They are beautiful cars for sure and it's the styling I love, I've always been a huge land rover fan, despite the hate they get I feel any car can cause you issues, the land rover in question is the 3 litre diesel model, I've got or make a decision this morning, buy the car or pull the plug on it! Hard one because I want it
@ tough decision, the extended warranty seems a good shout but I’d definitely go through it with a fine-tooth comb.
@@Touringwiththemarshalls I'm going to today, I guess the facts are anything can happen to any car at any time. I'm the short of person once my hearts set on a car that's it!! I could end up with egg on my face here though
i would say check warranty with a fine tooth comb, then do a milage check and visual inspection of high wear areas to see how its been looked after ask your self could i get another one just like it for the same money, if not is the saving enough to cover a heavy bill From JLR if anything did go wrong ,
That's one of my concerns Roy, buy the car only to find out the warranty won't cover turbos or other major components, I've been told it will but I guess you don't know until you come to make a claim
Congratulations mate well done. That’s a hard one with the car lovely motor but I don’t know if that would sit right with me. If I found out about the turbo like you did and they couldn’t provide proof that that problem was solved I don’t think I would go for it personally. At least you found that out though, buying a car is such a minefield mate! When I got my Volvo I cut my hands open from window glass under the passenger seat alarm bells start ringing I thought it had been stolen or something why else would there be glass everywhere so I went back to the dealer and they had know idea it was there! 🤔ps it wasn’t stolen 🤦🏼♂️😆
Thanks for the support mate, in terms of the car I guess the bit I find most concerning is why is it low on coolant unless there is an issue and why have I not been told about the issues in November that's presuming the dealership selling the car actually know about the problems back then or they genuinely have no idea! Either way I've got Brandon my friend who has said to me the car is full land rover service history and it's not looking a bad one, he's actually said get it and he will look after it for me so I'm not totally against buying it yet.
