    Similar here pal. £300 scrap pre pd 90 estate with a blown turbo and hole in the sump. Recon turbo, new sump, 4 new legs, few sensors. Fluids and other bits. I'm £1200 deep now and it still doesnt drive with full power, Still..it's insured and using it as my daily painters van. Does the job no problem. I've recently bought a pd130 estate to have some fun with in future. 😂 It's parked up for now...

    If I may ask you something... I'm a novice driver (31 years old) and drive well over 10,000 miles a year because of my job. At the moment I drive a bone stock 2012 VW up! without aircon, but with crank windows, hail damage and the gearbox input shaft makes noises when engaging the clutch quickly (a illness of the first years of production). My father had promised to give me his 2003 Golf IV Variant (with the 2.0 l Mk3 GTI engine) for free n two years' time, great condition, but already has over 136.700 miles on the clock. The up! is of course very cheap to run, but terribly slow and the noises the car makes drive me mad. The Golf would be much better suited to my driving profile, but has almost twice the mileage and is more expensive to maintain... how would you decide?

    why would do that to that car you came almost to the end of a beautiful restoration and put wheels on it that are shit.....and a rev counter that stops a leyland engine being a leyland engine......the car rotted around a leyland engine not like modern cars where you have a 5 year body warranty and a fucked up engine.....get some proper wheel on that car please with plastic over caps......its not right

    • @TattyOldCars
      @TattyOldCars ปีที่แล้ว

      The beauty of my modifications are that they’re reversible, I have the original wheels and hubcaps in my storage container, if I ever sell the car they can go back on, along with any other modifications that I make and I’ve been VERY careful to make sure anything can be reverted. Kind regards.

    Have you put genuine vw thermostat in ? Did you have heater on full heat when running engine after new coolant change? Squeeze all coolant hoses as engine is running to free trapped air .also check your coolant temp sensor .when running to get air out does tha temp go to 90? .be intresting to see how it does with new rad on .i have pd 2002 with 260.000 miles still good 👍

    I have the 4 door hatchback version in red color with a 1.9 TDI engine. Probably next month it's celebrating it's 300.000 km. It's a big chance that you will have to replace the headlights wiring looms. On my golf the wiring insulation disinterested letting the wire exposed.

    I have a 1.6 16v petrol hatch same colour and wheels etc. 201700 miles so far. I've had it since December 2020 and all its had since is a clutch and an ABS sensor. Previous owner had it from 3 months old until I bought it for £475. My Mk5 2.0 TDi PD has done 170000.

    I found this really interesting. I have a Skoda Octavia with the same engine, ASV 110 2001 140000. Mk4 platform as well. I have had to do a lot of work to it in the 6 months of owning it. I have changed the bushes on the subframe using a threaded bar and some big offcuts of pipe as they were cracked (f*cked). Not too hard, Just remember to support the steering rack with some rope. I also had the over boosting turbo issue and I found out it can be cleaned with mister muscle oven cleaner while still in the car! Stick a pipe down the inlet and let it soak, look it up of youtube, it hasn't over boosted since but is making the whirling noise when traveling up the gears lol
