The Trail That Put Oakridge on The Map! - Mountain Bike POV
If you ever visit Oregon to mountain bike, you'll probably be asked if you completed any trails in the Oakridge area. Living so close to so many gems, it's hard to adventure and hit them all within a year without taking extended amount of time off from work. Fortunately I was able to finally make my way down to Oakridge and check out the original trail that put the area on the map. This is the Alpine trail!

After the weather foiled my plans to record a full run of Bob's Yer Uncle at Rocky Point, I had to make a decision. Twisted Knickers always cracks me up. It's a perfectly reasonable blue trail and then right in the middle of it - BAM! - CREEK GAP. That's so Rocky Point.
Huge gap too! RP is definitely unique
The trail conditions look perfect! When did you run this?
Hmmm I think in September? I’m not sure. It’s been too long away from the bike!
nice!
Thanks!
I had no idea this place existed. It's absolutely on the bucket list for next summer.
Yeah, I’d say it’s like Rocky Point with less off-camber and wider runs. Huge jump lines, you can lap the first sections but after that, gotta go all the way down! Granny’s Kitchen is the “crown jewel” imo. Way above my level rn, looked gnarly.
@@GLeSnail we're going to hit this the moment we stop getting drowned in rain up here. God I cannot wait for mountain bike season to start.
@@ChristopherBloom enjoy it! Get there early, not much parking space and the only road there is a little narrow, I have a 1500 and with other full size it was a nice squeeze. 😂
There is a climb trail for tnt and lil monkey. When you said “ I don’t know what that is”. That’s the climb trail. And you crossed over it at 12:19. And it starts to your right at 13:33.
Oh dope! Now that makes sense, lol thanks for the info!
Hey man, has the magnet on the spoke given you any trouble like loosening due to vibration?
I think my magnet came loose due to falling a few times in a rock garden. I tightened up the magnet and haven’t had the issue since, and i still fall every now and then. Lol IMO, it’s one of a few flaws on this bike, but overall I don’t regret it, just wont get another one.
When I first rode at Stub Stewart I was perplexed by how short the trails were.
Yeah, I found it to be a good spot for someone just getting into it. Nothing special imo.
Hitting that up this weekend.
Dope! How was it?
@ it was wet!! But man it was fun!! It’s my first time out there!!
Good job. Just bought raceface flats for same reason. Looks like gorgeous riding out there.
Yeah I was riding scared with the clipless pedals, fun on flow but tech got too sketchy haha If you ever ride in Oregon you have to check out Sandy Ridge, Top Tier. 👌
@@GLeSnail Would love to but im a bit far. From Melbourne, Australia. We do have some fantastic riding areas down here as well and its growing all the time.
Oh wow, nice to meet you! Would be sick to ride out there as well.
I got stoppers down on my stumpjumper in 2 hours
Ayye good job! 👍
style looks really loose like it will come out with little effort
Haha because it does!
That shimano motor would annoy the fuk out of me
NICE.png (also what date was this?)
Thanks! This was August 22nd.
@@GLeSnail hell yeah. This makes me miss the riding season so much already
I have found that overcast, and especially after a bit of rain, are the best days up there. Keep the videos coming!
100%! Thank you, I will try my best. 🙏
Great review thanks! Do you mind me asking your riding weight + gear? That 2700ft climbing is a little less than I would have expected, but you said you were using full power on the climbs. I am 230lbs and curious what kind of range I can expect from this bike. Thanks!
Thank you! I’m probably 240 with everything on. Yeah some people say that they get good battery life from their Timp Peaks, but I’m def on the heavier side. 80nm on the climbs and pedaling was around 80-90 rpms. Turned the bike off or had it at 20nm on the descents. Overall a good bike, but I probably won’t get another one. Better options out there for a little more money, imo.
@GLeSnail Yah 80nm on the climbs will definitely zap a battery, that is almost max power. Makes sense. Don't think you can get anything better bang for your buck right now, $5k for their DVO build is a steal. I've been riding DVO stuff for years and it is amazingly plush.
@ If you’re looking to just get out and ride, I agree. Top bang for buck on the market. I’ve heard great things about DVO, idk when I’ll get a new bike but wouldn’t mind testing some out next year. I forgot to add my gear, I wear a hydro backpack and just carry a knife, multitool, and some snacks. I was actually going to do a video of what I carry on solo rides, but didn’t know if it would be interesting to anyone.
Also appreciate you including the climb. A lot of MTB TH-camrs don't, and it really misses a lot of what makes these trail systems unique.
Dude, 100%. Climbing is the only time we get to “smell the flowers”. Lol I’ve also learned to just pedal slow now days.
Appreciate the NWTA shout out at the beginning! Also, you're absolutely right: Rocky Point is a cardiofest to get to the good stuff.
Of course! One of my favorite places to ride now and I haven’t even scratched the surface! Hoping to catch some dig days when my schedule changes next year. 🤘
Nice 🔥
Thank you!
No I would not
Haha you’d get there!
what camera settings do you use im a young cyclist and i want to film just like you
GoPro Hero 11, 5.3k 25fps, ND Filter for sunny days and cinematic motion feel. Shutter auto. 0 exposure. 10-bit rate. ISO 1600 or less.
@@GLeSnail ❤️❤️
Nice!
Thanks!

Yeah dude, hard to beat it.
Ooo

@@GLeSnailin my defense it's new one for me
Nice!!!
😝🤘
The shots look great with a real sensation of speed.
Thanks! The videos coming at the end of the year will be even clearer and less shaking.
Getting to the top of that hill reminds me of a hike in Arkansas.
Haha it does look familiar!
Nice progress dude! Jumps are so much fun.
Yes! I’m so close to getting the proper technique down!
A tip is to pull up harder in your bars when hitting a smaller jump like that
Fosho, thank you!
Eager to see your progression.
Thank you, learning how to ride MTB has been one of the best decisions I’ve made in a while! Lol
How many do you have?
Rn I have 50
It's really impressive to me, the fact that the wheels are not rotating is the most impressive no one on youtube post that and you in 5 days ?!
Thank you!
Nice! Really enjoy your videos. Give me a sneak preview of some trails I want to visit. Keep it up !
Thank you! Ride safe out there. 🤘
Man this trail is way more challenging in real life 😅GoPro makes it look so mellow
Haha 100%, I’ve ran this trail maybe 5/6 times and finally feel like I’m getting comfortable with the speed. It’s a classic imo!
What are the trail condition at Klootchy in October usually? I'm planning on visiting then and I was wondering what I should expect.
Hmmm, I’m not 100% sure. This is my first year riding there but from what I understand of the coast, it’ll probably be soft/loamy on the greens and blues and muddy with wet roots on the blacks. Anything running on the Defib/Passive Aggressive lines will be sketch but technically challenging!
For 6 days this is absoloutly crazy progression
Haha thanks you!
So fast 😯
Thanks!
Im sure thats a lot bigger in person! Nice send.
The run out is more sketchy imo lol thank you!
Those are some fun trails, for sure! Too bad ebikes aren't technically allowed there, could get in plenty of laps without worry. As long as they don't have the resources to enforce it, just go for it, right?
Yeah ride them at your own risk but there’s a mix of class 1 and normal pedal bikes almost anywhere you go, including this trail system. Soon Class 1 bikes will be everywhere except on purist owned land, and noone will ride there lol jk. This is just my opinion though. I believe it comes down to sustainability of the individual area. Evergreen does an amazing job here specifically and it’s difficult to ride these trails at the rate where they’d do real damage to the system. We’ll see how things progress.
Just wait until you have that confidence to soar over those at top speed, bro! Your adrenaline is gonna be peaking!!!!!!
Right?! I’m getting more comfortable with speed now but I’m still too cautious! Yah boi still on them brakes! 😂
Did I run into y'all down there yesterday? Was on the analog bike with chocolate lab...whining about the climb to the top. :) It was SUPER SLICK - rear tire tried to pass me a couple of times, super fun.
You may have run into some of the locals I ride with! I was at Stubs yesterday. That climb to Evil Twin is a hike for sure, I’m glad both of ya’ll are good, it gets spicy in the mud! 😂
Def the second time was smoother just keep landing perpendicular to the ramp it’ll make it better for another jump after to keep your momentum. You’ll notice when you land more on the read you tend to lose momentum not really speed but momentum
Yep, you can definitely feel when it’s off. I forgot to pop my toes on the first one, little dead sailor action. 😂
We all have those days where things don't go right. You recognized it and stopped before you got hurt, which is smart. Have you been to Rocky Point?
100% it was a silly crash and after those your mind isn’t in it! I haven’t, I’ve heard mixed reviews. 🧐
@@GLeSnail Mixed reviews? RP is nothing but fun and they just added some super steep new stuff. It's the closest to me so I ride it a lot. So much fun.
Haha right?! So far every spot I’ve been to in the PNW has been top tier. I’ll try and check RP out before I move!
🔥🔥🔥
Thank you! 😬
Thanx, Your helping me make that decision.
Doope! It’s a good entry bike with better components than you’d normally get, just a few nuance things that happen with bike ownership. Good luck!
How come you didnt use teflon or liquid teflon on it? Locktight is a good one as well to use and make sure it stays on.
Didn’t have any on hand, aaand I’m a lazy DIY’er. Lol
@@GLeSnail ah got you, the teflon is good to keep it steady with all the vibration and stuff.
If my quick fix doesn’t do the trick, I’ll give the teflon a try. Thanks for the help!
@GLeSnail oh ya you got it man, hopefully your fix does hold though lol
This should have more likes
Thank you! Maybe in time. 🙏
Your slo-mo is hilarious! Nice work on not quitting though!
Haha I appreciate that! yeah I’m conflicted on keeping the super slo-mo’s, maybe taking up too much time? Idk, I do enjoy watching the fails and trying to see what else was going on while I’m face planting.
@@GLeSnail I would leave a couple in. The rest of the video is good too!
Thank you! They’ll keep getting better. 🤘
Good stuff! Heading out there on Saturday.
Nice! Ride safe and have fun, dirt should be 👌👌
@@GLeSnail How did you access Evil Twin? Is the climb at the top of Passive Aggressive? Trailforks isn't clear.
Follow the climb to Low Tide, then stay left at the split to go up towards the Twin Peaks summit. Once you round the base of Twin Peaks, the service road splits, stay left and keep climbing up towards Twin Peaks summit, stay on that road until you see the Pacific Ocean. If you have strava, my account is linked on my YT profile if you want to see the route.
@@GLeSnail Cool! Thank!
@@shaunbarrett5284 good luck!

Yeah that’s what I’m leaning towards! Thinning is the last thing I want.
More like you tucked the front end, I wouldn't call this OTB really. Still funny though.
Lol OTB. UTB. EBT. CCTV. Thanks!
