The glorious blessings of this salvation!! #justification #sanctification #adoption
Just to steel man some of the objections you raised without taking away from the point of your video. Not trying to say there aren't objections to these points, but wanted to provide the actual arguments behind some of these things for clarification: 1A - In Luke 1:28, the word the angel uses is kecharitomene. It's root word is the Greek verb “to give grace” (charitoo). The word is the past perfect tense, meaning that the action of giving grace has already occurred. It was not something that was about to happen to her but something that has already been accomplished. The word was also used as a proper title. The angel did not say, “Hail Mary, you are kecharitomene” but rather, “Hail kecharitomene.” The word is not simply an action but an identity of who Mary was. 1B - Romans 3:23 doesn't say that every single individual has sinned, because if it did, that would necessarily include Jesus since he was just as human as he was God. Romans 3:23 occurs in a section where Paul is arguing that both Jews and Gentiles need salvation through Jesus Christ and that this is not achieved through the Law of Moses. This is the theme of Romans 1-4. So when he says all have sinned, he is speaking of the Jewish people as a whole. He is telling them that even as God's covenant people, they were not able to escape sin. In other words, they were no better than the Gentiles, and both sects need to put their trust and obedience in Christ instead of Mosaic laws. Back to Mary, it's not that the entirety of the Christian witness prior to the 15-1600s (not just Catholics) believe she had to be perfect in order to conceive and birth the Messiah, but rather as the new Ark that would carry God in her womb, it was fitting. God wanted the OT ark to be as perfect and unblemished as humanly possible so it would be worthy of the honor of bearing the written (chiseled?) Word of God, which is why its construction is covered in painstaking detail in scripture. Since everything in the NT is greater than its counterpart in the OT, it makes sense that God would want Mary, the ark of the new covenant, to be perfect and unblemished since she would carry within her womb the Word of God in flesh. All of the Apostolic churches (not just the Catholics) teach Mary needed a savior, her savior was Jesus Christ, and Mary’s salvation was accomplished by Jesus through his work on the Cross. However, Mary was saved from sin, but in a different and more glorious way than the rest of us are. 2. In response to Br. Shadd asking where in scripture we see people in Heaven interceding for us on earth, John describes the heavenly worship in Revelation. “The twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each holding a harp, and with golden bowls of incense, which are the prayers of the saints” (Rev. 5:8). The angels also play a role in bringing our prayers to God: “The smoke of the incense rose with the prayers of the saints from the hand of the angel before God” (Rev. 8:4). If intercession among members of the body of Christ on earth is “good and it is acceptable in the sight of God our Savior” (1 Tim. 2:1-4), why would this not be pleasing to God amongst those in heaven? In the story of Lazarus and the rich man (Luke 16:19-31), the rich man is concerned for his family on earth, even though he is in hell. If a person in hell has such concern, and those in heaven are perfected in love and can finally pray with an undivided heart for the Church on earth, why wouldn't they? It's not that Catholics (and Orthodox, Coptic, and Assyrian Church of the East...pretty much everyone for the first 1500 years of Christianity including the reformers) think specific Saints like Mary are more capable of interceding for us, it's simply a multiplicity of effort. Sure, you can go talk directly to the CEO at your company to bring a request to fruition, but if you can do that in addition to others who are "closer" to the CEO doing it on your behalf as well, why wouldn't you seek that, especially since in this case, we know this is pleasing to the CEO? If you believe in covenant theology, there is no reason to believe one ceases to be a member of the Church just because you die and go to Heaven. I believe reformed theology emphasizes the great cloud of witnesses. Why can't those witnesses intercede for us, especially since that is precisely what John sees happening in the Heavenly worship? The merit argument is something I've never come across in studying Catholic theology, so I can't really provide insight into that. Some people simply have a stronger connection to specific Saints for whatever reason. Fishermen might feel more connected to Peter, fathers to Joseph, mothers to Mary, converts who once hated Christianity to Paul, etc. 3. That person in Honduras is totally wrong, and will, unfortunately, stand in judgement one day. The Catholic church does not teach that we are saved by Grace and faith in Mary, so that person's statement does not reflect Catholic teaching. I agree though, lots of Catholics make Mary into an idol, and hell is likely a reality for lots of them, as they are falling into the practice of Collyridianism which the early Catholic church declared a heresy. Much like if a Reformed Baptist such as John MacArthur claims the Calvinist title, and yet affirms the heresies of Nestorianism and Dispensationalism. It doesn't mean the 1689 now teaches those things, it just means John MacArthur is a very poor representative of what the 1689 dogmatically teaches, and he is in error.
Agreed. We did a brief overview of 3 of those. Our main thrust in this is walking through the Apostles Creed because this is what we are doing on Wednesday nights with the young people and they have been engaged with some questions and they asked me to record some stuff on it.
Also we both look fat! Not Phat.
Highly recommend the Athanasian Creed when it comes to understanding the Trinity.
Good stuff guys! Speaking of 1 Corinthians 15, Dr. Gary Habermas makes a case that Paul is recording a early Christian creed in verses 3-4 that could have been in use as early as 3-5 years after the crucifixion, possibly as a baptismal confession of early believers.
I had heard that myself. Thanks for the reference to Dr Habermas. The dependability and providence of the the delivery and preservation of the Word of God and the doctrines of the faith are mind boggling. Thanks brother!
the Right is undermining the separation of Church and State, and Democrats are letting them
All of the scenarios are real! I believe it is the very reason God outlined it in the Bible through the writers the way He did. It is not healthy or smart to leave us to our own devices and whims! Thank God he took care of that in His word.
I think I remember Br. Shadd mention something about guard rails in relation to being creedal/confessional in a previous video. The Presbyterian structure that you're discussing in this video is also a guard rail over and against what you typically get with a single pastor. How many lone pastors do we see whose Biblical canon seems to only contain the books of Daniel and Revelation? How many lone pastors do we see who only preach on eschatology and the rapture, instead of the Gospel? How many lone pastors do we see whose idea of evangelizing is to be more anti-calvinist and anti-catholic than they are pro-Jesus? How many lone pastors do we see today who go on and on about how a Bible that didn't exist until 1611 is the only source for the word of God? How many lone pastors do we see with a prophet complex, where only they understand scripture, and everyone else, including pastors who are in association with them, are accused of being false prophets leading people to Hell? You don't tend to get that with any other church structure. For the sake of this video, the Presbyterian structure gives you a plurality of elders and deacons that provide necessary oversight and accountability.
Living proof that God is Faithful. We serve a mighty God.
Love these two. They are amazing people.

Great stories from a great couple.
Yes they are!
The Didache (written in 50 AD) is where you can go to find the requirements/steps to becoming a member of the church in the Apostolic age. It's essentially the first Catechism for Christians.
I went through it very briefly, there are some really good things, it was the first time I had ever read through it. Obviously, there would be some particulars within the sections that we would differ on but the high and holy nature that it puts on God and the Christ life is something I know I lack at times. Thank you for referencing it though, I enjoyed reading through it.
Can you please share with me where in the Bible it says your churches should have autonomy when it comes to child sex abuse or sex abuse? Thank you.
It’s a crime Not a church matter as I see it.
@@CarmenSmithStuder you are absolutely correct. It is a crime an churches are responsible to report it to the authorities. They are also responsible to defend and protect the vulnerable in every circumstance where they have influence. Churches and church leaders absolutely should be held accountable when they are negligent or at fault. The issue of church autonomy come to bear when this is looked at from the level of the Southern Baptist Convention. The convention can’t mandate or an individual church to do something. In a convention, the churches are all independent. This conversation was related to the best way for the convention to respond. The Executive Committee has spent millions investigating, but the authority to bring charges, make changes is at the local level.
@@ebcruston If this situation is what happens when the mother ship refuses to force its leaders and member churches to accept true accountability for their actions, then your reaction should be "then it should not stand," not a wafting of the palms heavenward and a "GYARSH, SHAGGY, WHATCHA GONNA DO? IT'S JUST THIS WAY! Send more money!" You just seem very weirdly complacent with a system that seems 100% designed from the ground up to enable and support sex abusers.
This is great! I wish I would have known about catechisms when our children were younger. A good catechism is an invaluable tool for family worship.
For those sermons that are covering a topic but do so by surveying passages that speak to that topic in their respective contexts, Tony Merida would call those topisitional; an expositional sermon focusing on a topic rather than through a book.
This is good stuff!! The music portion of the worship service is itself formative as our hearts are shaped by the theology we sing.
@@sherwonwilliamson2455 thanks for the encouragement! Amen! We did not spend much time focusing on the great help hymns have been for helping teach and reinforce doctrines, but you are absolutely right there.

I am very sorry for what your version of “reality” is. A fixation based on ancient texts is incredibly hard to understand. I was a christian for 46-47 years. As I learned more of the truth it helped greatly to become a more accepting person.
I am very sorry to hear you have left the faith. I am sorry for anyone who may have mistreated you in the name of Christ. I pray the Lord will draw you to Himself and you will be able to see His grace and love manifested in His Son, Jesus Christ.
My deconversion was not a part of anything done to me by religion. It began when I was looking for answers to questions I had. This began with Noah’s Ark and the garden of Eden. Several parts did not conform with reality or the omniscient aspect of God. As I dug further in the answers pointed to these just being stories.
@@joeely6817might find this guy interesting. I understand there are certain things in the Bible that necessitate the belief in an almighty all-knowing God. I do believe in this God makes those things possible. th-cam.com/video/E7t9U1H0t1U/w-d-xo.htmlsi=9zxlVaF-ZauHp9nT
I did check out the link. Unfortunately I saw right away it was Frank Tureck. I will review this video and let you know my response. As apologists go, he led me further away. I will respond however.
@@joeely6817 much of the story of creation in Genesis isn't necessarily a literal retelling of events. It is entirely within the realm of orthodoxy to read much, if not most, of Genesis as allegory.
This all seems like a speech to “keep women where they belong.” Should women have no choice in their role and not experience all of the possibilities available to them?
Sin came into the world and disrupted Gods good design. We see the introduction of discontentment with roles and the potential for abuse appear in Genesis 3 after sin has come into the picture. Jesus came to save us from our sin by dying for us, paying our debt. When we come to know him we pursue His design with love for him and one another.
Do you truly believe that a man was created from dust and life breathed into him and that a woman was actually created from a rib? Or do you see this as an analogy/mythology?
We are a Christian church and yes we do believe the Lord created man from the dust and breathed the breath of life into him. We believe woman was created from his rib and God literally brought her and presented her to Adam, per Genesis 2…
