    No benifits what so ever if anything you have taken mild tooling marks out of the metal giving the part less surface to air contact witch will just make it heat soak faster

    The only polishing that makes sense is the top of the piston and the head button because that’s where the most intense heat is and the polished surface reflects the heat better. Everything else is just for looks

    Using polishing compound is a bad idea those sleeves are machined to tight tolerances using polishing compound wears the sleeve inturn the heat will expand it making it larger so now you lose compression

    That did absolutely nothing for performance. If you want to polish something, do the inside of the port on the cylinder body where fuel runs up on the outside of the sleeve.

    • @wyattfair1957
      @wyattfair1957 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Very minimal gains, it's much more about smoothness of the engine which will help it RPM faster and cleanliness which increases longevity. Also if you don't clean everything properly before reassembly after you polish you'll do more harm than good!

      That is stup*d dude,the whole point of breaking in the engine is to lap the piston to the sleeve, if you want to polish the top of the piston to remove carbon OK,and dome in the button to reflect heat better,but the guy in the video is anal and you can tell he wants his engines to look brand new,even shows off the new boxes of engines like a douche.

    • @TherealMandingo
      @TherealMandingo 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's actually a bad idea I polish stainless steel and brass using polishing compound is like using fine sandpaper it wears down the material especially brass. Brass is a soft metal easy to polish and remove scratches problem is you have to wear the material down to get the scratch out.

    • @wyattfair1957
      @wyattfair1957 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TherealMandingo it doesn't take off enough material to make one of these engines angry though, they're a lot less sensitive than we think they are. I agree with Baldrick though, not a lot of performance gain anyway

    • @TherealMandingo
      @TherealMandingo 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@wyattfair1957 it does matter each time does that he's pulling material away then the thermal growth from the engine heating up you have now lost compression now the sleeve won't shrink back to its original size. Dam straight those measurements are critical take acouple mm off the top of one of the ports

    • @wyattfair1957
      @wyattfair1957 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TherealMandingo Oh I agree completely millimeters would matter, but that would mean a grinder or Dremel. When I checked my polish job it removed microns, literally 1/10 of a thou using a Starrett micrometer from the brass sleeve and nothing discernable from the crank pin. And I'd be surprised if most of that wasn't from dirty nitro oil residue that's been cooked on and sitting for the last 10 years. My OS .21 is a buttery smooth monster now, I'll give most of that credit to the Boca Ceramics but a clean engine is a happy engine :) Edit: the inside of the sleeve went untouched, I still had crosshatching and good pinch on the piston so I left it alone and agree that polishing the inside is a bad idea 👍

    • @daBONDi
      @daBONDi 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think you will diminish compeession on every time you pull out piston, you cannot align it that way it was and polish outside will do not realy something beside destroying the seal

  • @brotherskrillrc6042
    @brotherskrillrc6042 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I did not know that polishing would give more power and reliable always thought cross hatching like in a gas motor was best to use so oil didnt pass passed the piston and lower your compression pressure but I guess 2 strokes like oil going into the compression stroke

    I use the same equipment and process including balancing. However, last year I made a couple of key changes (applies to the VP pro wheel/tire combos that come unglued): 1. Simple green instead of acetone 2. Use a micro fiber cloth between the bead instead of dismounting the tires. I start going around the tire, change to clean side of cloth then wipe the wheel. 3. This process is much faster and I’ve had 100% success with tires staying glued. Thx for sharing. I like the rolling idea before balancing. I’ll start doing that.

    Great video! This is a great breakdown of maintenance on the engine. How often do you break it down to this level of detail? Between every race, or do you run it a few times?

  • @xxCusco
    @xxCusco 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Cool video. Couple questions. 1. Acetone will remove the tire glue effectiveness. How long do you let them sit before gluing? 2. Wouldn't yellow wheels make you faster?

    • @rctrophychasers
      @rctrophychasers 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The acetone dries really fast, you can let them sit for a few minutes but im usually ready to glue just after cleaning them. And of course yellow wheels are faster 🤣
