The last 2 companies I worked for dumped Cherwell for ServiceNow. Cherwell is wonky.
What i really miss about Cherwell is using modifiers on the subject and body. I can do this in Power Automate but it requires creating a lot of extra steps. Modifiers let me narrow in on specific parts of the emails and use them to fill out tickets and get finer detail. Something like this would be a huge win. I'm sure you are already working on the filter stuff like subject contains or body contains etc.
Hi
What about when the license expires - how does Cortex access expired license data? Or is that irrelevant?
Cortex goes directly to the database and bypasses the Cherwell license.
❤❤❤❤❤❤🎉
I have also heard Ivanti will provide a read only key at EOL
Interesting. I hadn’t heard that. In fact, everything I’d heard so far suggested they would NOT be doing that, but I’ll confirm as well.
@@thoughtcolony I only heard this from one of the sales guys when they was trying to sell the Ivanti solution and we all know sales guys
What about custom designed forms and objects what will they look like in cortex
Cortex reads everything from the database, so any modifications you’ve made to forms (for OOTB and custom business objects) will be reflected in the UI!
Hello, ex Cherwell employee here. I am now a consultant for a partner of EasyVista. EasyVista and Halo are great ITSM tools. I am just super bummed about these platforms lacking the level of customization of Cherwell. I did servicenow development for about a year recreating my custom apps from Cherwell into ServiceNow for my previous company. ServiceNow has an insane level of customization but requires on order of magnitude of more time and headaches compared to Cherwell. There is absolutely nothing I have found that compares to Cherwell and I've nearly used everything. Ivanti is about as close as you can get. I even emailed Vance Brown the old CEO of Cherwell about my dispare. And he responded to me. Haha. It's 2024, for the love of all that's good and sacred it's time for some of these platforms to catch up.
Cortex 3.0 Full ITSM solution? PUHLEASE that has all the cool features and functionality that Cherwell had.
Will Cortex handle custom BO's as well?
It does! All of the lists and dropdowns that show Business Objects populate from the database and every form and grid is rendered by reading the appropriate XML.
@@thoughtcolony Awesome! I'll be in touch with some additional questions when we get a little deeper in our project. I'm gonna miss Cherwell 😥
@@thoughtcolony I'd be interested in getting some pricing information from you. What is the best way to chat with you about this?
Best way is to find some time on my calendar: calendly.com/briancparks/30min
This looks amazing, thank you and keep up the amazing work!
Can you get attachments on records? like on an Incident or HR Case that has a document attached to the record. Can you access them as well as the record?
Yes! Not in this video, but in next week’s demo! (And unfortunately there are no attachments in the demo DB, so you can’t see it working on the demo site)
NOTE: v1.1.1 has been released, fixing an issue where the tabs on the business object form were not clickable.
Looking good. Keep up the good effort.
Kind of curious about your intended scope for this tool - Are you planning on it just being an archive tool for people to access a dead system since Cherwell's EOL? Or are you intending for people to work in this tool day to day as a replacement? I personally would skip the effort for some ideas like automations, etc, as I think most of the people moving off of cherwell will just move onto some other tool like SNow, etc for their day to day work; their ideas for what they need an ITSM solution to do include a lot of useless buzzwords that usually come with hefty price tags, hahaha. The archive tool idea is really solid; I think you'll struggle to find a market for more than that though, so i'd be careful about the scope of effort you expand to past that functionality unless you know there will be people buying it. API access to read existing incidents might be useful but again it would be difficult to get your product in front of the few customers (considering cherwell's low market share to begin with) that would need that feature
First things first: it’s an archive/audit tool. Most people will be moving to another established tool, but once I have the audit tool in place, I do want to explore the business automation/tool space. It will largely be driven by the needs of the customers who have started with the archive tool.
Looking at this I see a huge value in this being an 'archive' tool for people that are moving off of Cherwell.... Being able to upload or drop a CZAR file onto a server running this (Assuming they only have a CZAR if they're hosted, and not the whole DB live on a local sql server to interact with) and being able to poke back into it retroactively after they've move into some other tool, to grab some of the old data... Would be pretty cool! Since some customers after moving don't migrate all of their data / don't think it's all important until 8 months later :)
In most cases I’ve seen, the databases are too big to build a CZAR from. And rather than limiting data just to get down to CZAR sizes, I recommend that folks get a backup of ALL their data. The tool requires an MSSQL database both for that reason and for performance. Reading from the CZAR (something I’ve played around with before) is very slow.
Definitely looks like something most Cherwell customers would be interested in for another way to access their data. Nice effort making great progress.
Coming along very nicely.
It would be rad if you could figure out how to use the Cherwell definitions to view data same way as cherwell too. Plug and play good to go, just install application, aim it at DB, load definitions done.. looking forward to progress on this. I think this is going to be great for companies to use to view archive data. Taking it to the next level for companies that want to using this as a sole replacement for Cherwell will take some pretty huge effort. This could be really awesome though.
The more people use it, the closer it comes to being reality!
@@thoughtcolony The company i work for (acquired the company i work at) already abandoned Cherwell for ServiceNow for ITSM related stuff. However the company is still using it for all the custom applications I built for Manufacturing quality control, Customer/Vendor Master, 3D print requests and more. After deving in ServiceNow for about 8 months now i can firmly say Cherwell is a superior platform for rapid development without needing a lick of code. There really is not platform out there like it, and i've tried nearly all of them.
Would be great if a front end could be built that just bolts onto the existing Cherwell DB and can handle all the information seamlessly, automations, one steps all that. Probably some sort of legality thing regarding that (I saw your other video cool interface). Or maybe we can buy the IP from Ivanti and rebrand it and make it better? DOUBTFUL! When i worked at Cherwell i always said they didnt market the platform better. It's a Developer PLATFROM to me more than it is an ITSM tool. Maybe they would sell the IP as long as its not marketed as a ITSM tool?
Stay tuned…
Meth Mr. Breast
Coming along nicely. The tab locations at the bottom work nicely.
That looks like a very nice tool.
It just got even better! th-cam.com/video/iftkxJoKHP8/w-d-xo.html
Current Cherwell customers should just wait 2 years if everything is working great with their current system. In two years there will be a LOT more options with low code/no code as well as huge leaps in enhancements A.I. and automation in that span. Ride on for 2 and then use the last year for new implementation with the new choice. Just my opinion. I've been a Cherwell Dev for over 10 years now. (Actually worked at Cherwell as senior consultant professional services)
No doubt the next couple years will be exciting for IT platforms. I’ll be demoing a few things I’ve been working on (in low-code and AI) in future videos. Still never hurts to have your ducks in a row sooner and adapt the plan as new tools come to market.
Does it work on real time basis If any changes have been made to the data in Cherwell, will those changes be visible in power bi as well ?
Thank you for this information.
Thanks, Brian. It is so helpful to see the Azure side in addition to the Cherwell side.
I use this video every time I use Power BI with our Cherwell API. I love how simple and clear the direction is. Thank you so much for making my work just a little bit easier!
Can we refresh the data dynamically?
great explanations! a little ambiguous on thresholds for troubleshooting, but that's understandable. each system is different. looking forward to viewing his other vids.
I'd be interested in the certificate example for authentication to the Azure app, thanks!
Thanks for sharing. what is the version of Cherwell you use?
I don’t recall exactly which version I was on when I recorded this video, but it was most likely 10.0 or 10.1.
Great VID ! Much better than the cherwell doc!
great video, much better documentation than what Cherwell provides
Thanks!
Great information. Thanks for the insight. Will definitely investigate the API Gateway in front of the F5.
Fantastic!!! Glad I found your videos! You should use SMZeus . c o m!!! It’s the fastest way to grow your channel!
Great information here, thank you!
Not to mention... Low code / No code platforms limit you to only the features and actions that they've added support for, potentially resulting in a large swath of their customers producing apps that function and look roughly the same, and/or funneling them into the same types of design / workflow rather than the custom solutions they may have wanted. A more positive example of this as well is #4 that things can be evolved more quickly; which in some platforms is demonstrated via lookup tables etc that can change configurations for various processes, where the platform itself may have taught the administrators / developers good practice on configuring an app to be more configurable 'on the fly' using values in a database... where theoretically, if someone on a code-full environment like C# could do the same, they'd just need to actually plan ahead and think of that use case. To me it all rolls back into platforms as a whole (low/no code and others) more or less having value in that they're a shortcut to bringing a business forward into having something set up quickly, but in the long term it seems as though it's usually more economical to use your own developers to build out applications rather than pay to license them forever over time. They're also then bound to supporting the dependencies of that platform - For example requiring one or several windows VM's and MS SQL Servers that then need to be licensed separately
It's very helpful thank you so much.
Please do a deep dive on the Service Catalog Portal options, I would like to be able to change the way the catalog is portrayed on each page.
