Thanks a lot for your lovely explanation, I have a question, as the natural process occurs during treatments, there may be a difference in outcomes (posttest) in both groups, so it is feasible to compare the differences between both groups after intervention ?
Yes, there could be alternative explanations for the outcomes observed. These are called threats to internal validity, and I made a video about them as well :).

I am an MSW student. My undergraduate degree was not in social work. I haven't been in school in a really long time. The research class I was in was killing me. These lectures are a lifesaver! I do have a question though, can you explain an ordinary least square? I looked up the definition and have no idea what it means! Ordinary Least Squares regression (OLS) is a common technique for estimating coefficients of linear regression equations which describe the relationship between one or more independent quantitative variables and a dependent variable (simple or multiple linear regression).

Instead of starting with what we don't need to study first, I wish you'd have started with that what we do. While attempting to take notes, it proved to be misleading and confusing.

Hi, could I ask, if a study involves letting participant watch a video of a well dressed person, and a second video of a causally dressed person, and getting them to select which person they find more trustworthy. If the hypothesis is that people would find the well dressed person more trustworthy, Would this entire study be considered an experimental study?
Hi Aaron, it depends on the design that is chosen to answer that question of whether clothes make a difference in trustworthiness ratings. Oftentimes people will refer to what you wrote as an experiment but it really depends on whether or not the people in the study are randomly assigned to at least two groups. In this case, to make it an experiment, there would be two groups (randomly assigned) and one group would see the well-dressed person and the other would see the casually dressed person. Alternatively, there could be two groups (randomly assigned), where both groups see the two videos but maybe in a different order. I hope this helped :)!

Which book is this information based out of?
Hello, the book we use for the Master of Social Work program that I created these videos for is the following: Applied Social Research: A Tool for the Human Services 9th Edition by Duane R. Monette, Thomas J. Sullivan, Cornell R. DeJong. But the information I used for these videos come from different sources including my own knowledge of research methodology that I was trained in :). Whenever information comes from a particular source, I will cite it on the slide or if it is the textbook, then I will refer to it as "your text" or "the text." Dear Mihle, I'm sorry that I did not see this comment sooner. A master's in social work is a great degree because it gives you so many options for a career. There is medical social work, for example, where you work in hospital settings. Forensic social work is work in the criminal justice system. You can be a therapist or you can be a community organizer. You can also be a policy analyst. There are a lot of options and I encourage you to look up schools of social work in your area. Oftentimes they will list the types of careers there :).
