Hey Cliff, don't forget that his brother Mick Avery is alive and well and runs a garage along with his son. Mick Avery Swadlincote road Woodville.
I lived just outside Swad as a young child in the 60s and remember the pipes carrying the money in Salt Bros. Thanks for the memories.
I can’t believe that’s still there. I would walk past it when it was open. Would visit my Dad just down Cappy Hill every Saturday. It’s amazing lol 😂
Ps. When I lived in Wilmot Road in the 80’s. That building I think was Elmbridge tyres. The huge house down from the garage on Wilmot Road owned an orchard that then became Clamp Drive ❤
Hi matey. Hastings road not changed since I last walked there to my mate in about 1986 lol Such a shame to see Hallam all boarded up. I had a paper round for a few years as a teenager. Would get up in the dark and walk from my house in Wilmot Rd to the paper shop, go to the back of the shop and pick up the VERY heavy bag to be delivered before I went to school at pingle. It was a killer as my round was all the way in Fabis Close. Back then we also collected money on the weekend. Wouldn’t allow that now. A teenager with a bag full of money over his shoulder. lol 😝
Hi again. I don’t know what the Curly Magpie is but I of course remember Jon Paul’s growing up. And yes. The menswear downstairs. I’m sure years ago there was a hairdressers round the back too. My school mate has worked and Nigel and Co hairdressers since 1986. The old Nigel’s was opposite to Jon Paul’s. I got a Saturday job at Nigel’s and Co but got sacked after half a day lol. But I had my other part time job in Woolies at the time. An hour every night after school and all day Saturday 🙏🙏
Hi matey. I remember sketchleys. A long long time before was Wimbush. Think z cafe?? Or cake shop??? Or both. Fine Fare shop was also Bejam for a while . Lots of plastic bins that you would scoop out stuff you needed. Not very hygienic Last time I went there the chemist was Heaven Scent. For years that was there. And the pub when I was at Pingle was called “The Place” Dead dead rough in there too. I bought my first pint aged 16 in The Bear lol 😂

Quick question if Granville pit was opened in 1823 long before the railways came to Swad and there are neither a river or canal running through Swad how was the coal transported to market?
@stephenmalkin9445 good question 🤔
Don’t know why my comments keep getting removed??
Hi Andy i have known idea why your comments get removed it's not me i read all comments and give them a like thanks for watching
@ it might be because I said that it’s a shame they removed the old building to replace with modern houses. The old one was lovely. I would pass it most days. Lived in Wilmot Rd from 74 to 88 so would go through the jitties to get to Swad and especially the chippy lol
@AndyBlackbird-t1h so that would be doolys chips then

Hi there. Only just came across your page on here. Love it. I am born and raised in Swad. Moved away in 1992. But my family all still up there. I’ll work my way through your videos and leave comments 🙏🙏 Last I remember the bruilfimg that’s now post office was the chemist. The post office was the huge semi circular building opposite the fire station
@AndyBlackbird-t1h the post office moved to the building that was belfields first it was there for years now it's in the building that you remember as the chemist. and thank you for watching
The coming circular building is the post office sorting office
Megasave
Emai grandad
Wimbushes cafe was next to Fine Fare.
@KevSmith-o3c thank you for that one I remember it now
Electric board was one of them I think.
Beautiful history, beautiful building..
HI all just been informed that not only is the curly magpie closing but jon Paul's aswell 😢sad news 😢
Ay up Cliff me duck, them fireworks are much better than the ones on BBC1 last night 🎉👍🏻
To many in Swad we need sports direct
wouldnt he have been 70 when he died?
@Tomahog81 yes I got my maths wrong i noticed to late 😅
Mason Cash was the best job i ever had.
You can see inside of the place in scenes from the upcoming movie “Losing Faith” which should be out on Amazon Prime in February. Unfortunately inside it’s like a hoarders paradise such a shame with so much history it could be so much more.
Happiest Xmas to you and the family!
And you too my friend. Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas from Dubai, Cliff. Sending the best wishes to you and the family.
Thank you Cliff, and very best wishes for the Festive Season to you. I am looking forward to continuing viewing your videos in the New Year. Just a couple of suggestions, how about the Trams & the tram sheds that used to be. Also how about featuring the American Diner.
Thank you check out my midland Red bus video
Thanks, I just have. I believe it must have been the Tramsheds still standing until about 2010-11. There appeared to be some remnants of track in the yard too. I had a book out of the library a few years back and I was able to find the posts in Newhall. Also a chap showed me a manhole cover with the Tram company's initials in Woodville High St. Apparently some of the tracks are still under the road there too.
I'm a brummie and have nothing to do with Swad. I did work with a lad from Leic years ago who said 'Me Duck' at the end of every sentence. I liked him so you can have a like as well. Me duck
Nice to see the pond.
It really should be a priority to keep historic buildings like this maintained. Seems like there just letting it rot.
The film is called Pin cushion me duck.
Fascinating place that. When I first came across it 20 odd years ago it was indeed pretty full of cars. Those two left I'd guess one is an Austin Maestro while the other looks like a Cavalier. I wonder if we'll ever know the full story behind it and if we'll ever see anything happen to the place and the land. By the way, perhaps I could suggest a video about the American Diner.
@@D.Dastardly maybe who knows
What a great video 😁👍🏻 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I drive past that pub every day and I've never been in 🤦🏼 It looks like a very nice pub and I will stop and have a drink one day 🍻
Sex pistols gig was amazing at 76 club, the superb bootleg is worth a listen, and sex pistols are amazing, anns sid mums lived here later years 1990, i knew someone who met her, and we went to swad to learn to ski, im from an area called groby leicestershire, ive been swad few times, i think 29 bus still goes up there.cheers matey.
Great! I've never been to The Rising Sun but I'd certainly like to after viewing this video.
iv had many a pissed up night in there me duck.
I grew up in gresley. Many fond memories of the village and the park. Went to school at St George’s. My mum and dad, auntie and uncle had the two bungalows built at the top of Meynell street.
Great! That's a good shop for sweets & crisps too!
A dentist? That's just what's needed in the middle of the High Street
@@D.Dastardly it must be doing well to move from market St to a big building like that
Love learning local history. Keep up the great content buddy 👍
Looking good. Better than anything Blackpool council does, they really are terrible at the moment.
Be good when its all done. I wonder if there will be an opening do?
@@D.Dastardly I was told it will be next year now the artist who is doing the mosaic says it is too wet to put down
Nobody knows where his ashes were scattered.
I have many fond memories of your Dad, I used to spend many hours talking with him whilst fishing there when growing up. He was one of the kindest, most helpful people anyone could ever meet. I was so glad he got to live in the bungalow near to his favourite fishing spot, there should be a bench there commemorating him.
@andrewbeckley728 thank you for your lovely comments if I phone my dad and he did not answer i new where he would be at midway ponds he's favourite spot we were going to have a bench for him but it would have got damaged so we all had something in our gardens to remember he so thank you again for your lovely comments
Very interesting, more things I didn't know.
I always learn something new from your videos 👍. I was often amazed by the old 'Nissen Hut' a little way in front of the old Police Staion building.
Thanks for watching!
Why would i have a costa coffee when i can go next door and have a beer?
