Farm Amenities: Eco-communities for Urban and Suburban Neighborhoods (Agrihoods) May 19, 2020
In this video we discuss what a Farm Amenity is, and why real estate developers, communities, companies, airports, restaurants, mixed used buildings, and baseball parks all want one. We discuss the different locations you can place a farm amenity, like a roof top or in a basement. Practically any unused space you can think of. Learn what the difference between an urban farm amenity and an Agrihood is, and what sets the Green Food Solutions Farm Amenity apart from other Agrihood developments.
This was a virtual event that we held on May 19th 2020 as a live zoom presentation. Please excuse the sound glitches.
To purchase any of the urban farming equipment mentioned in the video for your farm amenity please contact us at greenfoodsolutions.com

    Looks good, but here's the problem I find with these set-ups, and it's the humidifier. If you can manage humidity as a closed system, the same water cycles around. But when you introduce the humidifier you're pumping additional water into the system, which tends to build up and make everything soggy, even at low output and with a sensor. I'm thinking about making a false floor of corflute sheet for the bottom of my tubs, below which I'll put a thin layer of perlite to act as a sump to gather condensation as it runs down the inside walls. A few small holes in the tub, at the centre of the perlite layer, should allow the accumulated water to weep out beneath the substrate above, without exposing the system to drafts etc.

    The biggest problem I see with this, if you get trich or some other kind of contamination, you're going to have a hell of a time disassembling all of that, and not getting trich spores or whatever all over your grow area. It might behoove the grower to make some kind of disconnect for the hosing that allows them to detach it from the fogger without exposing the contents of the box to air in the room. Also, instead of using a little reptile fogger, use an ultrasonic humidifier and rig up some attachments. I'm a little skeptical about this because it seems like an easy way to overhydrate your mushrooms and make the substrate far too wet, while also inviting a lot of unfiltered moist air to into your FC to introduce contamination. Especially after you've been using that fogger/ humidifier for awhile, there's no way you're not introducing bacteria or mold into the tub.

    ? Why not use super glue on the filters? The epoxy is nasty. Is this a one time deal, or will the same filters be used each grow? Don't do this to yourself or any other living organism.

    WARNING: Do not place your air holes as high as they did in this video if you want healthy mushrooms. The bottom of your holes need to be almost level with the top of the substrate (substrate is the mixture your mushrooms grow on) but just slightly elevated above, so 1/2 to 3/4 inch elevation placement above substrate is perfect. Now you might be wondering how this is a problem since he can just raise the height of the substrate; actually he can’t because most strains grow pretty tall and he hasn’t left enough room. Now back to hole placement, the reason this is so important is because your mushrooms will be consuming oxygen (lighter gas) and be giving off carbon dioxide (heavier gas). If you want your shotgun terrarium to work the way it’s supposed to, then the holes need to be as close as comfortably possible to the top of the substrate where the carbon dioxide will be resting. This will allow the heavy gases (carbon dioxide) to automatically fall out of the holes (gravity) and allow lighter gases (oxygen) to replace itself in the container. This kind of terrarium allows gravity to do the work for you so that your mushrooms can breathe👌🏻

    So one thing I keep noticing with these mono tub set ups is no one is using a heating mat after inoculation. Once I spawn to bulk substrate do I not need to use a heating pad anymore? Or is that job taken over by the humidifier?

    • @DangerRussDayZ6533
      @DangerRussDayZ6533 ปีที่แล้ว

      You shouldn't be using a heating pad at all. You want to warm up the ambient air temperature, not the surface temperature.

    • @luis4210
      @luis4210 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      A humidifier will actually cool it down, you don’t need a heating mat ever unless your temps are too cold depending on what fungi you’re growing

    What about getting fresh air into the chamber? Shouldn't the lid be removed and fresh air fanned in at regular intervals? Surely the micron filters don't allow enough fresh air exchange on their own?

    I purchased a Tower Garden this February. It's simply amazing. Initially, I was going to focus on non-flowering greens but decided to plant cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, and strawberries in addition to the greens. I prepared my strawberry plants just as you did. My one plant has 4 strawberries developing. The other plants have flowered as well. I have no experience with this and I'm amazed at how easy it is. Because I only have 1 Tower Garden ( no space) I need to focus on plants that are prolific producers. Not sure if these strawberries will be but it's worth the experiment.
