DNT ThermNight TNC225R Onboard IR kicks ass!
I'd love to see side by side footage of the 225 and the 335 if possible. Curious how much better the 335 thermal is at detection and detail. Great videos!
Thermal wise there is a noticeable jump in the quality and detection. The 384 is really not a bad place to be with its performance vs cost. Heck I don't feel under gunned with the 256 TNC225R at all. But visually the jump to the TNC335R with the better screen is noticeable in the fine detail in day and night conditions.
@301NightCrew I appreciate it! I want the 384, but I'm trying to justify the nearly double price tag. I'll keep an eye out for future hunts.
@BeardFace88223 I understand man. 100%
It looks to me, that IR light is focused too much to the lower part of the screen instead to the centre. Is it possible to move IR beam?
@@matejkraso I was using external IR at the time. I need to adjust it and tighten it. The onboard IR is a brilliant light. It's easily a 500 yard light but it is fixed to one position. I haven't had issues with it being too far off center to not be effective.
You would’ve thought the helicopter would’ve scared it off:)
😂 I was surprised.
Black coyote?
Last night i have spooked red fox with 940 nm IR.This happens regularly.Critters of night easily see 850 nm and 940 nm .I suspect they see 1550 nm as well. TNC335R seems to have LRF with much tighter spot than 225R has. In your opinion, what is TNC335R's LRF's effective range on red fox on relatively flat field (not on slope)?
Never seen a black coyote like that? Impressive!
That's the 6th one our team has shot. We have 2 in the freezer to get full mounts on.
Weird. Every deer I drive by does a headfake like it’s going to jump in front of my car so I crap my pants:)
😂
I had a coyote walk into my IR a few weeks back and immediately turn to take off. Thankful I got a shot off. I was probably 50 yards away and wind never shifted so I’m pretty sure the IR is the only thing that could’ve spooked him
I absolutely believe they can be spooked by the IR. That's a first for me. There were other factors to consider but I can't say for certain it wasn't the IR.
LOL cmon lets keep it real , you focused that 850 beam right on that lead yotes face and he turned around that instant .....they saw the light
Or it saw my buddy swing on it with his. My 850 was already on it and it didn't care. So it may have seen him swing on it or his light. Of all the years I've used nv and IR lights, I've never had one react like that... Ever.
@@301NightCrew Scared the Bejusus outta that lil doggie ....
@KevinMcGrath-g3z 😂 I guess it happens. Good video to share and learn from.
Appreciate it. No shame in failure. Try smarter next time.
Great footage even though it didn’t work out. Cant wait to get mine.
Did they get your wind or was it the light that spooked them?
@@WestTNPredatorHunting I said that in the video and I muted it out with a few curse words. When my buddy went and picked up the call the moon was right behind us silhouetting us he said and the wind was blowing that way. It could have been any or all that contributed to it. I've never had that dramatic of a turn around from IR before. First for everything I guess.
Good Lord .. Learn how to shoot
That one's not getting up. Why is the image round? I thought Thermnight had a rectangular image?
The 335 384 has a round image on the NV side.
Rectangular for thermal, round for day/night... toggled via the rear hotkey on the left. 🤓 Cheers. Russ

Good to have friends in low places.
How did you get your hands on a TNC335R?
What did you do at 44sec that changed the POI. I assumed you used the onboard range finder but the range shown stayed the same.
@@bsgp8ntball I ranged the object and it corrected the hold for that range. The red hash showed I had to bring the barrel tip up for the correct hold.
@@bsgp8ntball I played paintball years ago in Maryland. Practiced against teams like Bad Company, All Americans, Iron Men. It was a looong time ago for me.
@@301NightCrew yes sir I've been playing since 89. Actually driving to a 10 man mechanical tournament this weekend. If you remember those teams, you probably remember my current teammate, Rocky Cagnoni. Him and a few old Aftershock players.
@bsgp8ntball I remember Rocky. I saw him at a Pittsburgh tournament at one of the vendor tents several years ago. He doesn't remember me. I was a nobody that just liked to play. We played Avalanche the year they went pro at Pittsburgh. We played them in 5 man at the world cup. Team Called Venom. I'm 53 now and have beginning heart issues so my days are over. My team captain was Mike Frey. He ended up playing for Bad Company with Tom Cole. Be safe. Glad you enjoy the content.
Good Job. Quick question. You use 850nm or 940nm illumination ?
Long nights and huge fields I use my external Sniper Hog Lights Coyote Cannon 850nm Turbo for long range and conserve optic battery life. Short nights and hitting 400 yard and smaller fields I use the on board IR. It's plenty bright for me most nights.
@@301NightCrew Thanks! I use Coyote Cannon myself, but with the 940nm bulb as I find some predators detect the shine of 850nm. Cheers my friend!
@venetsian I've had a gut feeling they had detected me a few times but it was long to late with any of my rigs. They hit 300 yards and I feel extremely comfortable from there in. 300 and out percentage starts going down.
@@301NightCrew I can't believe you aren't using a USB battery with 20.000 mah like an Anker ...I have all my rigs wired via c port to an external battery ..housings are made from 3d printing and lock the battery on pic rail. route the magnetic ended usb cable to the Zulus which has a 90 degree connection . its magnetic . I 'd bet itll run for 30 hours or more ...I mount them to my Zulus body directly on the pic mount too. and use a 4" 90 degree usb to type c cable
@KevinMcGrath-g3z If I were going to run another tournament I would. The 21700 batteries in the 335 last a long time if not using onboard IR. Even using onboard is not too bad. I could probably get through the entire night on 2 batteries if I kept the IR on lowest setting and bumped up as needed. I like running external IR for 2 reasons. It allows the 21700 battery to run all night on the ThermNight 335 and I prefer the bigger features of the external IR when running with gloves on. Summer time it's not a big issue for me. The onboard IR is an amazing unit for sure.
Can you compare the eyepiece distortion between the 225 and the 335? I am quite disappointed in the former requiring perfect eye alignment and distance in order to get a clear image. Even slightly off-angle and the image becomes so distorted and fuzzy it's unusable. I've written to DNT to make sure I'm not doing something wrong, because as it is, it really sucks all the joy out of a new toy.
@@erkme73 Sorry I missed this post. The 335 has longer eye relief. I haven't had the issue you are referring to with the 225. Look for Matthew Reinhardt on the US Facebook page. He will get you sorted.
@@301NightCrew Thanks for the reply - yes I was emailing Matthew for the last couple of days. What a good resource he is. With his help I think I figured out where my hangup is. The "eye relief" - the distance between the eye piece glass and the tip of your eyeball - is typically 3 to 4" on rifle scopes. In fact, my Thor 4 from ATN is at 3.5". All of my scopes are in that range. The 225 is only 1.7" (45mm). This is why I have to push my face so hard into the stock and can just barely get the proper alignment. Matthew said the 335 (which just went live on their website last night) is 2.55" (65mm). While that's still quite a bit shorter than my other scopes, I believe it should improve my alignment issue substantially. Given that I'm still in my 30-day return window, Matthew suggested I call Glenn to initiate a return, and upgrade to the 335. I purchased the 335 this morning and will return the 225 on Monday if one of my neighbors doesn't buy it from me before then. I guess what really surprised me is that of all the reviews on the 225 so far, no one has brought up this unusually short eye relief design. Matthew said that with most tubular scopes (such as my Thor 4), the mechanics of that design allow for longer relief. But since the DNT is so short to begin with, the relief is necessarily shorter than most. So, with the 335 listed at $1799 (with 10% discount), I'm effectively paying $800 for a little less than an inch. That's an expensive inch. However, with all the other enhancements and improvements in the 335, I think it is well justified. Just hope I can get my wife to agree :)
@erkme73 I'm sorry you are having that issue. I really never paid any attention to it. I've spent many nights behind my DNT's and never gave it a thought.
@@erkme73 LOL you are NOT paying 800 for an inch of eye relief , that is the most asinine statement Ive seen to date ...The 335 is a whole world above the 225 in performance ....be for real
@@KevinMc7-s8o tongue and cheek, bro. Innuendo... Woosh... Of course the 335R is vastly improved.
You like this better then the thermnight?
It's my favorite dedicated night vision optic. The clarity is amazing! The dual threat ThermNight is hard to beat with picking up hard to find targets. The 335 and Zulus are extremely close if not exactly the same on the NV side. The 335 has several upgrades that set itself apart from the TNC225R besides just the 384 sensor.

I just ordered a TNC225R. What is the pricing on these? Did I make a mistake?
I don't know what the pricing is yet. Just helping work out anything I notice that needs addressed. Been a stable responsive unit from the start. Hopefully it will be ready very soon. It's a fun capable unit for sure.
Has yours ever froze picture and turned itself off when you pushed record
@pav532 No sir. I have had zero issues with the Zulus and ThermNight TNC225R. Been 100% stable with no hiccups. I had a test firmware in the 335R and it had a couple hiccups that they immediately fixed with the next fw update for it. That was expected from a prerelease test optic and the next fw has been 100% glitch free on that 335.
@@301NightCrew my 335 has done it a few times now it's a bit annoying and the gyro freezes when you range find iv only got it on loan for 3 week to get them some hunting footage il pass on the problems iv found it's nothing major
@@pav532I misread your original message. Yeah I've ran mine for 6-8 hours of hard use without issues. I'm sure they will get you fixed right up.
This looks quite a bit better then the 225. Is it? I want one!
There's a 1x lock where it will lock the thermal at a huge fov. I wish it were only in pip mode and hopefully they change that. But while you zoom in on nv mode you retain this huge field of view in thermal allowing you to see things you'd normally miss when everything is zoomed in. And the thermal is super clear when locked on that 1x. There's other features added too. Their programmers listen to feedback from consumers.
NO doubt ..its far better and the Starvis chip is running at 100% ...the 225 is degraded .
at the 2:00 mark they are shooting beyond 300 yards and you can see the bullets. Amazing.

@ being able to them side by side through the dnt footage, it definitely looks like the way to go. Thermal for spotting. Night vision for the clear identification and shooting. The clarity is pretty amazing. I almost bought the 225r until I found out the 384 version is coming out soon. Just waiting!
@ccalxr The 335 is definitely nice. There's some new features over the 225 and the 384 resolution is a nice upgrade.

@@justinengland7162 if you don't have thermal and you need help finding a target in less than desirable terrain conditions like tall grass, woods, locations where it can get tricky with IR unless you get eye shine, as a tool the 256 is awesome.
