When Aleksander says “adorable” after learning that Alina had run away with Mal, it’s different than him being “salty.” You can’t call it salty, because you’re missing what’s going on beneath the surface. In that moment, Aleksander let his guard down in a way he rarely, if ever, does. For centuries, he’d shielded himself from emotional attachment because, as a long-lived man, loss and betrayal were constants in his life. With Alina, he’d come to believe that someone might finally understand him, that there was a chance for something more than just the power she held-a future where they could be together, equals in a world that had always set them apart from everyone else ;( . That was unheard of for him, and deeply personal. So when Alina ran away, it wasn’t just about her choosing Mal over him. It was about feeling abandoned by someone he’d allowed himself to care about. His “adorable” comment wasn’t just sarcasm; it was a defense mechanism he used to mask his pain. At this point he is forced to hide his emotions, pretending to be indifferent or above it all, when in reality it is very painful for him. As I mentioned, it is his defense mechanism ;( Reducing this very tragic moment for him to being salty undermines the depth of his emotions and the complexity of his relationship with Alina. He is not mad in a petty way (Aleksander never was and is not like that) - he is broken, rejected and once again made aware that despite his power, the connection he desires remains...out of reach. It is a sign of how much he was beginning to care for Alina and how much it hurt him to realize that she did not choose him.

@MegaQuistis that's all very true. He was definitely masking his pain behind the sarcasm. That scene and the scene where he meets kaz and kaz told him alina willingly ran away...... his pain was palpable. On a lighter note, and not to take away from the depth of emotion and pain that Aleksander was experiencing, poking a little fun at him in that moment also helps us cope with the tragedy that is darklina.

@@briwireduah7791 I think it’s important to be intentional about how we talk about Aleksander’s suffering. It seems inappropriate to laugh at his tragedy in any way. His struggles-loss, loneliness, and love-are deeply real and profound. They deserve our respect and support, especially because we feel such a special connection to him as a character. When Aleksander masks his pain with sarcasm, he reveals what he’s struggling with inside. It’s heartbreaking to watch him struggle, and to joke about his pain risks trivializing his experience, turning something truly emotional into a “funny” scene where Aleksander is “salty.” His story is a powerful reminder of the complexity of love and loss-the way they shape us and scar us. Instead of minimizing his suffering, let’s honor that complexity and its weight. We can appreciate the depth of his character without reducing his pain to something to laugh at. His journey deserves our compassion and understanding as he goes through his own heartache. Aleksander's loss and pain is important to me, it has recently gained special meaning, which is why I think that we, as the Aleksander fandom, should take special care when writing about him.

@@MrsEileen25 me too. I felt he was used and abandoned...... without any proper support system. His parents were terrible. I like to believe he finally grew up and found someone better and worthy of him , and eventually got over the damage he was caused. He was the true victim in the story.
