The simplest answer to this question is exposure and ease of access. You can go to almost any bar, any summer party any friends back yard etc and have access to a cornhole board to give it a shot, it's simple to understand and learn while having a pretty high skill ceiling if you're competitive. Then , if you liked it, for less than 100 bucks you can go purchase everything you need to play it yourself at home. It doesn't take a large area, extreme setup, potentially high costs, partners, proper weather it just takes you having an urge to go play. Is that saying kites in some fashion couldn't be an Olympic sport, no , but between the two cornhole is a lot more relatable to more people thus generating more views.
