"Stars" by HUM "Pancake" Swirlies "Whisper" by Catherine "Floaty" by Foo Fighters "Monterey" by Starflyer 59 "Never Click" by Medicine "Hermit Crab" by The Lilys "Shoegazer by Pasteboard "Winona" by Drop Nineteens
My Bloody Valentine's -When you sleep is the best shoegaze tune by my opinion
0:28 space rock + shoegaze = Stargaze!
Sweetness and Light is my favorite song of all time.
It’s funny loathe and freshwater are directly from the hardcore/ metalcore community Also artists are essentially genre less these days
And if we talk about Deftones I would mention them as the catalyst as they basically defined modern shoegaze sound. The real missing link is for me is Hum and especially their "You'd Prefer an Astronaut" album as Chino himself mentioned them as a key influence for both guitar tone, song structure and atmosphere. And even more interesting that even "White Pony" album cover is homage to Hum's mentioned zebra cover and even "Knife Party" is basically sped up version of "Little Dipper". I even would suggest to make a separate video about Hum themselves as along with Failure they basically created the whole modern shoegaze blueprint and influenced not only Deftones but already mentioned Defheaven, Hopesfall to the point that they key album was produced by Hum's singer and other modern bands like Teenage Wrist. Still a great video as for me it interesting and bizarre as I switched from Nu Metal listener to Shoegaze/Post-Hardcore enjoyer and musician with time.
MBV's Only Shallow does it for me everytime, that mix of powerful distortion and sweet melody hits the perfect spot. Probably the best of the genre.
HUM? STARFLYER 59? A PERFECT CIRCLE?
nice video! new suscriber
Thanks dude, means a lot!
Land of tanks album land of talks ❤
Awesome to see the Drop Nineteens reformation.
Amazing record!
Ok… you definitely caught my attention with that title! 🎸
Totally worth it.
5:10 Flying Saucer Attack - New Lands
Good eye! 🤣
fuck i love that fsa record. i have a copy.
Great overview! I'm all for "aggressive escapism these days"! Thanks for the video - gotta go buy some more guitar pedals now! 😎
Thanks so much dude, that means a lot! Nothing beats aggressive escapism at home with guitar pedals! 🌀
anyone has a playlist on spotify for this?
No but they took influence from it
genz leave shoegaze alone, this is millenial genre 🙂 our invention
As a millennial, I have to give this one to Gen X.
Mudhoney, Jesus and Mary Chain, Smashing Pumpkins, this music has been going on for a long time
mine as a very new listener: bright-tokyo shoegazer soon-mbv i only said-mbv into the deep time(one sun)- candy claws sweetness and light or blackout- lush (doesnt really fit the vibe but is great nonetheless)
Slowdive king of shoegaze
'Vapour Trail' and the majority of Ride's stuff for that matter is not really shoegaze at all and I don't understand how they ever got clumped into that genre in the first place. 'The Taste' may have been close but that's it imoa. If you want to know what shoegaze, real shoegaze sounds like then I would suggest you go have a listen to my 'Inside Heaven's gates' playlist.
I thought shoe gazing music was soft and slow
Sometimes!
I love Lush's both early shoegaze and later britpop phase :-)
Same!
i must be a Shoegazer as 3 of these songs have been among my favorites for over 30 years,, Lush has the most really good songs imo of all these bands and if i was forced to pick a #1 song it would also be Only Shallow..
Ok ok where is Jesu?
Yeah massively influential Scottish band JAMC were the pioneers of shoegaze genre movement and have too many classic songs to count. Many wrongly say they were goth rock, which I always despised as they were always an indie shoegaze band :-)
Wait. Were these songs actually called Shoegaze back then or is that something new?
journalists for Sound Magazine coined the phrase in 1990, shoegaze guitarists spend much time looking at their feet while changing pedal tones.
That "Duel" song is one of my all time favs and I'm not even a shoegaze fan.
Full body 2 is going to be big.
100%. Incredible band and amazing live!
smh for no "touched"
these are all ass
Rick Beato just mentioned shoegaze music and had never heard that phrase although I have listed to a couple bands on this list. Didn't know it was a thing, now I got new music to explore.
Lush , Jesus & Mary Chain and Ride have the most good songs [imo] of the shoe gazers..
Welcome to the rabbit hole! Rick Beato loves Swervedriver which is a good one!
OZEAN? Anybody? 😅
Stoked for their new stuff!
Lush!! My favourite shoegaze band insanely overlooked imo
So this is shoe gaze. Sorry but it has nothing to offer.
No.

Love FB2
Loveless is the bench mark for all Shoegaze music, but I feel like so many other bands that have continued on and new bands have pushed the genre forward and left MBV in the dust.
No When you sleep..?
My top 5 favorites are all form Slowdive 1. Sleep 2. When the Sun hits 3. Star Roving 4. Alison 5. Sugar for the Pill
My son is going on tour with Ride! Im trying to learn about shoegaze.
That's awesome!
No Cocteau Twins?
souvlaki and deathconsciousness would dominate this list if we’re being objective
Space Song ?
Hi there ,do u also promote shoegaze bands?
Slowdive “Machine Gun” should be on the list
This list is a bit "academic", but Machine Gun is my personal favorite along with Morningrise
