    This is by far the most messy story of a theater. It went from a TV studio to a Disco house to The Kit Kat Club to a traditional show house.

    Fun fact: the first show at the Uris/Gershwin was the forgotten flop "Via Galactica". It had to change its' title from "Up" because the marquee otherwise would say "Up Uris"

    When was this aired? The MAMMA MIA! stage is still there, but it moved to Broadway's Broadhurst Theater in 2012 until it closed, Sep 12 2015, was this filmed in like 2010/2012?

    Think these mini docs need to be rerecorded. Feels weird for Angels in America and Proof to mentioned as the most famous shows in this theater and not Hadestown

    It's a gorgeous theater. I wish they could do something about the intruding street noise there.

    This one is truly ridiculous. The insertion of political language is totally unnecesary, and as much as i love Sarafina, why the special treatment? Oh well, I know...

    I remember when, as a teen with my parents visiting new York for the World's Fair, seeing Barbra Streisand at the Wintergarden among the Broadway shows we saw.

    I thought the “runaway” was built because Al Jolson, a frequent star of the WG, wanted to be closer to his audience. Isn’t it true?

    • @mica412
      @mica412 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The runway was actually already being used in burlesque shows as a way of allowing the male customers to get closer to the dancing girls but it was indeed Al Jolson who first requested that the runway be used in a legitimate Broadway production.

    If you sit in those last few rows of the orchestra, you cannot see above about 9 feet high. If yyou saw the original Chicago, you could not see the orchestra which was on stage and you missed a few numbers. I was just watching the PBS version of Cyrano, filmed at the Rodgers and Jennifer Garner makes a grand entrance and if you were in those seats, you would totally miss it.

    Cynthia Nixon appeared in both The Real Thing and Hurlyburly at the same time by running between acts from the then Plymouth Theatre to the Ethyl Barrymore Theater while both plays were in progress. That created some questionable union questions considering another actress could have been hired and was not.

    I remember Joe Papp protesting the demolition of the old theaters and the Marquis is disappointing to the Broadway theater goer since it does look like a shopping mall. The architecture and design of the theater really does become like another character in whatever show you are seeing so the building is important.

    Cinderella at the Broadway was a woke production. Grandmas were dragging their Disney clad sweeties out of the theater because she started a soup kitchen down by the river. It was not the Julie Andrews edition that grannies and I remembered. I wrote a letter of complaint alleging fraud and asked for my money back naturally no response.
