Isn’t VR just for gooning now?
This is such a great video, damn! The editing and pacing kept me interested the entire way through and your way of describing the game and reviewing it is fenomenal! It's safe to say I will definitely pick Alyx back up for a second playthrough after this! I don't usually comment on videos, so this is an exception. A well worth one at that! I couldn't believe how your subscriber count is below 100 thousand with your video quality. The editing, the pacing, your voice, everything! I truly admire your work here and I will definitely be watching more of your content. I wish to see you be able to get more out of it, though. You deserve so much more recognition
half life might be more known to most people but if you whant more like that just play vertigo remastered and vertigo 2
damn VR sickness is crazy. Can't convince myself about the blink - feels lame AF. Continuous movement all the way, especially in game like this when I want to really feel being inside this world
Its not bad but its just another tech demo shooting gallery disguised as something else
It makes sense for Half-Life 2. Still be Canon because pretty much there could be parallel universes
I never did and have not ran into any Glitches in superstars yet. Maybe just a little longer loading screen from time to time 🤷♂️
The flowers annoyed me so much right off the bat, that if I couldn't turn them off I was going to get rid of the game
thats the problem with once in a lifetime experiences. they dont hit the same way after the first time. they become mundane. i imagine it was the same way with flying. such an incredible thing has become nothing more than a hassle.
Dude.. as a Vive owner, you need to upgrade to a newer headset bro
Wait- are you using an OG HTC Vive??? Dude..
i have a feeling that sometime in not even that far into the future we are eventually going to have VR Headsets the size of sunglasses where the hand controllers are just gloves
I HATED the Jeff part of the game with a burning passion. My biggest pet peeve in games is an invincible enemy that forces you to play a specific way to beat. I despise convergent gameplay like this.
I never finished it. Each time I restarted it, I couldn't remember how to play it.
I genuinely hope nobody is displeased at the plot shift lol that was the cleanest most impactful retcon of my life. I literally cried at the end lmao I don't remember the last time I was so moved by a videogame.
you helped me unlock a memory! Highly underrated channel, hope its not dead.
same i just found it now and the quality is insane for such a low view count
Just a heads up, you can actualy use one of the "filter mask" lying around. You just pick it up and put it on your face and it equips automatically. It makes the Jeff section much easier as you don't have to cover your mouth. :)
vr is so cool when you think of the concepts, and SHORT list of top games, like boneworks is amazing, I miss when pavlov was free cause it was too, and i loved the use of vr with superhots vr port, but then that's it, the list just, stops. every game after alyx was a progressive downward spiral, naming games i know, gorilla tag came out, was a cute concept but cheap and simple, designed as a first dev product and not a full fledged game, and its development shown that as it got buggier down the line due to its immature beginnings. bonelab came out the year next, was HORRIBLE in every which way, it was a buggy mess on start, came from simply a point of not actually caring for anything but modding, and thus its gameplay was just, bad. the year next, nothing. the games dipped so hard there was nothing, vr is a wave but like, really shows how deep in it was. then 2024, it rises back up again, arkham knight released and was (not my word) apparently amazing, using more unique mechanics in vr and creating an attempt at a triple A vr experience. orion drift did its first open beta and was (my word) amazing, it was the team of gorilla tags first game with the built up work and skill from the former game, and was very organized and clean, showing actual care and shows what gorilla tag was meant to (locomotion) in a meaningful way that actually can drive people into thinking it can seriously be used in other games. alyx was a peak when vr couldn't take that step because everyone was too scared, and because it peaked so high other companys stepped down not feeling they could compete and that stepping into the market was worthless because people would compare them and not be able to enjoy their games because there was something better. thats what makes it so disappointing that it was meant to boost vr, and it inadvertently caused the hugest regression in the genre, and i mean this, the genre has literal mobile game slop on here, like actual mobile games, and most of them are actively exposing children to s3xu@l content, they have d1ld0s in a game rated for like everyone, this be bs.
Valve has a talent for saving a half-life drop for when gaming is getting dry and needs a wake up call lol.
What do you nan we thought? I think VR is great. We've had good VR games since like FNAF and Batman
heres what you need for this game. (im using my setup) 1000$ pc with varying prices around the world + 399$ headset (oculus quest 2(cheapest headset)) + 60$ game (i pirated it) = 1660$ to even play the game in ultra graphics with issues in stuttering, lowish performance and its a hastle making vr even work on your pc because its system is kinda sh.t. you have to first install like 2 softwares then go to your settings on your quest and find your pc. then you have to type in a ridiculously long passcode in your vr and pc and then you connect. but thats not the end. then you have to get in your pc and install another software(steamvr) and open while you are in your vr. after that you open steam vr but not through your pc but in your vr library and to do that you need to first close steam vr and reopen it in vr. then you need to scroll around to set your prefrences so vr games come first so you can find half life: alyx and then finally. you can wait 2 minutes for a loading screen and then crash just to reopen it and realise its supposed to crash. then finally you can play the game. so is this game worth 1660$ + 1 hour of just doing stuff to your computer and then getting sick because of the lowish framerate? yes
Alyx is very well optimized. You can play it on a $200-300 PC + $100 used Quest 2.
Hell, not even that. A $80 Rift CV1 + $200 PC can run Alyx pretty well while still being immersive. Your pricing is outdated.
@DiamondDepthYT need for max graphics is still high.
last sentence of this video hits hard
hey pikmin was actually the first pikmin game I’ve played that’s why it’s my favorite
I found best use for VR in sim racing. It's like it's been made just for it.
Those robots in the Beast Boy level are annoying. I've learned that I had to run and jump onto the robots to defeat them.
If your getting sick despite blink you should check your Ipd its probably not matching your actual IPD.
Still, it's the ONLY truly quality game for VR.
Just wanted to say that HL:Alyx is not a prequel, its a sequel. The white flashes and text pre tells what will happen in the future, as if something in Alyxs past has changed, so that the 'future' changes. The ending dialogue even foreshadows what HAS happened in Half life 2, ep 1 and ep 2. Im talking of when G-Man speaks in present form that Gordon is not cooperating. It is all very subtle, but I instantly saw this playing the game myself. Just being *told* that it is five years before the collapse of the citadel and death of Eli Vance was eluding to this being an alternate Timeline rather than a Prequel. I theorize even that in this past, "The Vault" didnt even exist normally, but it exists now and the combine in this past tried to isolate G-Man. Half Life Alyx does not at all tell of her past, it tells of a past changed. Alyx across HL2,Ep1nEp2 is not the same Alyx, or at least. Not anymore. My slight theory even has credence knowing the voice actors have changed. And knowing HL:A Alyx was "Hired" meaning she was in "Stasis" in some way or form. Half Life 3 might be about a mindbending story revolving around Eli having to Die. We might even get a Sequel where we try to revert back to when Eli Should have died. Which would lead to Gordon not ever coming back at the train station of HL2, And even further back to when the scientists never got the crystal that would create the resonance cascade. Basically anything the G-Man did should be erased. This is what I got out of this "Time" / "Retcon" of HL:A. And this is how I see Half Life ending. It ends where it all began, replaying the first chapter of Half-Life but without the big 'accident'.
Incredible idea for a video!!! I am so glad to see that people still care about those... I definetly miss my fusionfall days
The "If Alyx goes into stasis at the end of the game and therefore cant meet Gorden Freeman in the normal Half Life 2 game" can be solved easily: Eli Vance, the future one, also says that Alyx has now been gone. The gman has powers, a lot. He isnt just putting past Alyx into stasis. He removes her from the time. And he perceives time differently. Human minds perceive it linear: from past ->presnt -> future. Therefore, everything in th epast leads to the present, which will lead to the future. A being, which perceives it not that way, also can work with it differently. The event of Half Life 2 and the episodes have happened, same as the Alyx game. Gman has removed Alyx from the point the player perceives, but also with it AFTER she witnessed her Dad die.
26:27 actually it helps you aim for the head, and not all enemies are humanoid
Yes, this game is amazing. Its the reason i got a quest 3. After trying it on a friends quest 2.
This is one of my favorite pikmin games, sadley nobody else likes it
33:48 people need to stop complaining about the price of VR. It's been available for $300 for several years already. Even cheaper if you buy it used.
It was my favorite game on the ds
You absolutely need to try Vertigo 2 if you enjoyed Alyx. It's got similar story/shooter type of gameplay, but with the world scaled up quite a bit along with a much wider selection of weapons, just like in older half life games. I genuinely believe Vertigo 2 is as good as, if not better, than Half Life: Alyx, and is totally worth a shot.
3rd and 4th grade were phenomenal as a kid.
The thing that nobody understands is the fact that it is a SPIN OFF. You don’t play Mario tennis if you are looking for a traditional Mario game. Same thing with this!
I can actually explain time travel in a rather simple way. When Alyx goes forwards in time to prevent her fathers death, what's actually happening is a old variant of Alyx goes forwards and saves him, wiping herself from THAT timeline. The Alyx that was crying over her dads body is the Alyx that gets trapped in stasis BUT no remembers the old timelines Alyx's memories and of what happened. The way time works is all things happen, no matter if you change something or not, everything will always remain on a steady passage of time. If you went back and killed Hitler, someone would simply take his place and the same outcome would happen just under a new name. Paradoxes only exist as a means to explain to yourself and others why something simply doesn't make sense. Sometimes the best answer is the simplest one. Take the grandfather paradox for example; You go back in time and kill your grandfather, thus stopping you from being born to your mother. However when you go forwards in time you're still with your mother. All you did was kill a random man, your father was still born just as was your mother only to new grandparents, and thus you are still born.
I get the complaint about writing, but the vortigaunt scene where he is confused about the passage of time is incredible
@30:02 Its been a while since i played but i think at that point you can find gas masks to wear so you dont have to cover your mouth in the elevator.
HL2 has a VR mod if you want to know how scary that is. Boat section will kill you motion sickness wise.
My name is Nobody and I can confirm that this is my favorite Pikmin game.
I just straight up don't like HL alyx. But I will say I think the time travel aspect does make sense, Gman like you said in the video is essentially an alien diety and given we don't know how even half of how him works, I'd say it's pretty easy to dismiss the time shenanigans by saying he just wiped Alyx's mind after she freed him having her go on as usual until 5 years later when the events of HL2 and the episodes take place and then he just reverses time after Eli dies and prevents it from happening. The nudge doesn't happen until the credits are rolling on Episode 2 Edit: typos
First time seeing The Vault fall from the sky made my jaw drop to the floor
i think BONEWORKS was better than half life
Half way through the video so far and it's quite entertaining, but it's bugged me since near the start that you implied Oculus rift was the only player on the market until Alyx was released with the Index right before it ... the Vive, which I think is what you(?) are wearing in some of the clips came out like a week after the Rift. I initially had a preorder for the Rift until Facebook bought it, after which I cancelled my preorder and changed it for the HTC Vive, a decission I never regretted. I know it's a stupid gripe, but it bugged me and I felt like sharing. I do however like your video format, I'll now probably watch some more of your vids to see if they're as good as this one.
You have to build up motion sickness resistenance slowly. if you're still getting it, it's because you've never trained your brain to ignore that you're not moving in real life. I used to get it terribly in VR at the beginging but the trick was little and often, soon as I felt it stop playing. I'd often not do it again until the next day and each day I'd be able to last a little longer than before.
It's kinda sad that HL Alyx is still the best VR game in 2024 :(
Games so overrated
