Offence of damaging two wing mirrors ! and no previous convictions.
Did this case need to join the massive waiting list for cases to be dealt with at Court and was the offence so serious as to warrant a Community sentence?

I believe the issue lies not solely with the probation service, but with various services in general. It appears they may not always be recruiting the most suitable individuals for the roles. The primary objective of the probation service is to assist in the rehabilitation of offenders who are on licence. However, it's unfortunate that within the service, there are occasionally those who seem to be overly focused on wielding authority, which presents a significant challenge. What we truly need are compassionate yet resilient professionals with a background in social work. These individuals should be capable of enforcing rules only when absolutely necessary, whilst prioritising support and assistance to the utmost degree. With such an approach, it's likely we'd observe a reduction in recalls to prison, which often occur for relatively minor infractions.

Just a little bit about me: I’ve always wanted to do social work; however, I’ve never been able to manage the maths because of my dyslexia. I’ve recently come across a potential opportunity within the probation service, and I’m at the final stage of the application process. My background is actually in computer science, and I’m currently working in the nuclear sector. However, I would certainly consider working with vulnerable people, although I haven’t done that in many years. I spent a good deal of time doing that in my early 20s, working within the community, hospitals, and with people with learning disabilities. In terms of education, I have a bachelor’s degree in computer science. So overall, I’ve done quite well. Now I’m thinking of moving into something I always wanted to do in the beginning but wasn’t able to pursue because of the requirements for social work education.

Hi Danny, Most of the time people did cooperate with me at Probation but sadly I was assaulted once at the Probation Office in the late 1980's. I was punched 3 times to my head. I get the impression that work has changed considerably over the years. In my day there were more people being supervised on Probation and now there are more people being supervised on licence which is altogether different (plus I suspect more difficult) . There is now more emphasis upon Oasys and risk assessments too and caseloads are very high. I think I preferred my early days when there was more time to work with and motivate people.
