Watching this display, the future quality of Royal Marines Bands is assured. Excellent marching and playing.

I never really understood this, Is this part of there "Graduation" to prove to senior officers they can play certain pieces of music to a high standard?

it's just really to celebrate them completing their musical training at the school of music before they join one of the bands

@@jamesedwards9690 argh so before they even got to this point they have already completed training and this is just to celebrate like a "Graduation" of them completing training.

It's called Daedalus, composed by Michael McDermott (retired RM Bandmaster) to accompany a Royal Navy film back in 2009 celebrating/commemorating 100 years of naval aviation.

Why do some halfwits clap along to Service and regimental marches? Do they think they’re at some ghastly holiday camp or something?

@Anubis Well yes I presume some would, And please correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure the average Joe doesn't know what a "regimental march" is. Plus Heart of Oak and Life on an Ocean Wave are used by pretty much every Common Wealth Navy and Marine Service out there, so there pretty popular tunes, so the public would definitely recognize them. Altho I can see how you're frustrated at this, 'cause here in New Zealand, when people witness a Haka (war dance) for the first time they cheer and whatnot and I'm here thinking "wtf you spastic, they just threatened you with war lmao" but they wouldn't know that unless they were told. So maybe give the "Some Halfwits" a break as they probably didn't know its "wrong" and "rude" to clap along to a popular march.... No disrespect tho...

Hmm "A Life on the Ocean Wave " is a regimental march It's actually two songs combined the bulk of the march is from Henry Russell's 'A Life on the Ocean Wave' published in the 1840's and the short central section (trio) is based on eight bars of 'The Sea' by Sigismund Neukomm which was first published in 1832.

Hi! Thanks for uploading the video! I like copying what the band does and this was a tricky one to do!
